How are we doing? How many million caught the first day? When do we unlock Bronze?

So far we are behind the 500 Million goal by Sunday but that is because of night time once we get to the afternoon in the U.S. we should have a better picture.

True. The math is pretty simple. Bronze at 500 million is one sixth of the total needed for gold at 3 billion caught. The event is 10 days. If it take 2 day or more to unlock Bronze then we are behind pace.

Once you consider how many more players will catch once it hits double XP and 6hour lures - and again the rate will sky-rocket once we unlock dbl stardust - then dividing the goals into equal amounts becomes less probable.
It may just be a slow start as people prepare for a grind knowing that dbl xp and stardust are just around the corner.

I would go so far as to say it is a guarantee that the catch rate on day one will be vastly different to the catch rate later in the week. That is, the last 500mill will be caught a LOT faster than the first 500mill

It is just a point that I thought might be worth considering.

Is there a way to find out how we're doing?

Niantic should made a Medal for this challenge for everyone showing Bronze, Silver and Gold

They are gonna give out all the bonuses anyway. Just like they faked the numbers for the legendary event in the USA.

When something is unlocked, does it start immediately and last until Dec. 1st? Niantic is really one of the poorest communicators.

I've caught about 50 so far, still catching whatever I find around my house, hope that adds up to it. Powered up my Vaporeon twice today and will get a 3rd powerup soon.

Just saw the tweet that said at 298,000,000 as of 3 hrs ago

Just under 300.000.000 caught during the first day according to Pokemon Go twitter.

That means we really have to pick up the pace because at this rate we would only reach 2.1 billion :(

I have been out catching a lot, my holiday already started. I've not seen a lot of trainers at an ideally lighted 24hr park, 800 meter paved loop--4 gyms and 5 regular poke stops. Gonna go back there tonite, hope my car not only one in lot.

Caught 60-70 more so far, need to restock on balls from the park though, I'm getting low on them. Planted a lure at a pokestop near a hospital, which is near an intersection so hopefully people can catch stuff there too. There are some buildings near it as well, so anyone who lives / stays there is probably catching at leisure lol.

Once the lures last 6 hours, and it is double XP then the rate will get faster - once we hit dbl stardust the rate will skyrocket.

You can't use the first 500 mill to judge how fast the last 500mill will be - there will be a massive difference.

On the other hand, with the holiday in the US on Thursday and many people traveling and/or vacationing all weekend, I would expect progress to slow by midweek. I'm going to be in a rural area with no accessible stops for half the time, for instance. I don't see how we get to 3B by the end of the week without some number-fudging by Niantic as alluded to by others above, which I suspect will happen.

...the rest of the world can manage to do stuff while America has a holiday.
We earned the majority of dbl XP for you while you slept, so you could enjoy double XP on your day 1 while we all slept - I am sure we will manage once we ramp it up even more.

What is the holiday? I am assuming it is Thanksgiving.

Buy incense, if there's no pokestop you can still bring them to you then.
