At last - a Snorlax

This isn't really a question, more of a "yay me" story.

I'm a level 36 (mainly) solo, free-to-play player in England. I've been playing for 14 months. In all that time the only Snorlax I've ever seen were in gyms, plus one (only one) in the wild on the radar at the wrong time if day to try and catch. Never hatched one.

My wife and I met some local players at the Mewtwo raid at the start of October. Since then we have joined them occasionally for raids (two Suicune, no Raikou yet)and finally on Friday I caught my first Snorlax.

Not great IV at 75% but I don't care. There's a big blue and white gap in the pokedex that's now been filled. He's currently in a gym.

Next up will be my first Tyranitar. 260k walked so far, another 165k to go. If I catch one with the group before then, there's plenty of candy to power up.

Many congratulations on your Snorlax - I think I know how you feel.

I am now level 37 and have been playing for 16 months, during which time I have only seen 1 x Snorlax in the wild (he was 22xx CP and ran away from my first UltraBall . . . ), but I have now hatched 4 x Snorlax, which I regularly deploy in gyms.

Lapras and Aerodactyl were the real problems for me to get.

Lapras wasn't too much of a problem for me. Aerodactyl took 6 months and my first one was 34cp. I still have it as a trophy.

Aerodactyl was the last Pokemon for me to complete my Gen 1 pokedex (after 10 months of play). I caught him in the wild, with a CP of - guess what - 34 !!

I also keep him as a special trophy.

Lapras caused me a lot of problems, finally in summer I caught one in a Lapras raid. It has 87% IV and is currently my buddy and a great Dragonite slayer.

Kinda funny, Snorlax has never really seemed all that rare to me. I've only ever raided them a few times, yet I'm at 27 caught, 30 seen (level 37), and have ignored quite a few I saw on the radar at bad times or locations. I didn't really think Snorlax was biome dependent, but maybe they are more common where I am. The first Snorlax I ever caught only had 43 CP, over a year ago, when I was probably level 20 or so.

I even hatched a 98% one a couple weeks ago, and was mostly just annoyed to get yet another Snorlax instead of the Mareep I spent the whole Halloween event burning through incubators trying to hatch. And for Gen 1, Diglett was the extreme rarity for me, making Dugtrio my very last dex entry, after I finally hatched a few, then walked one for the final candies. I've still only seen 3 or 4 wild Digletts, ever.

Don't think Snorlax is biome dependant. I've been unlucky. There's plenty of people round here with multiples.

As for Mareep, I've caught/hatched 9 and somehow managed to evolve to Ampharos. I guess pinaps and walking were involved as well.

I've only ever seen 1 wild Mareep, and just finally hatched my 2nd one a week ago, too late for the double candy. Flaaffy and Ampharos are the last two I need for my Gen 2 dex, still about 345 KM to go to evolve them with buddy candy. It was rather annoying when people in my raid chat started talking about a wild Flaaffy they found during the Halloween event, at a time I couldn't do anything about it.

I think there’s some correlation to Biomes with the rarer Pokémon in game.

My old Biome was desert. Growlithe and Houndoor roam the lands outside the commons. Lots of Abras and Mankeys with Machop as an uncommon. Chansey, Blissey , Mareep and Larvitar spawned quite a bit. I probably seem more Chansey and Blisseys than the other ones I mentioned. No Snorlax and you’ll be lucky to find a Dratini.

My new Biome is a mix of normals, water and grass. I’ve seen more Snorlaxes in the wild my first month here, and I don’t scan or use any radars. All just while playing like I always do, just drive around. Haven’t seen any Mareeps or Chansey family but I’ve caught 1 Larvitar in the wild so far. Dratinis are here as well.

In Singapore, Dratinis are not rare at all and I have caught two Snorlaxes from home, but SGPokeMap may show not a single Lapras on the entire main island (mine were caught during the water/ice events). I have only ever seen one wild Aerodactyl (which ran away; mine was hatched) and caught one wild Chansey. Never seen a wild Larvitar, Mareep or Militank; which other Gen 2 species would be generally rare (except Unown, of course)?

Dragonite seems to be rarer than Snorlax here imo.

Occasionally I see Dragonites on the nearby, but they were either too far away or spawned when I was not free.

I caught a Dragonite months ago, but I transferred it because of its disappointing IVs and a crap moveset.

Seriously, the only Pokémon I have in the Dratini family currently is a very low CP/level Dragonair.

Congrats! Snorlax is always nice!
I once have Snorlax coming to our home, and both my wife and myself caught it in the front door step and inside living room!
My Snorlax catch rate is 30/32, certainly many of them are hatched!
Currently I have 220 Snorlax candies!
You will certainly get more too down the road!

Congrats! My last addition (aside from unown which I don't have) was porygon/porygon2. I never saw one during the Valentine's event. I never hatched one. Not until the equinox event with egg ~550 overall. I got the triple xp for a new pokedex entry and hatched 5 more during the event and got my porygon 2.
