I thought the same thing! But as it turned out (after several attempts) the emails had landed in an obscure spam folder I could only access on my PC... not my phone/device. I used a very old email address for my account (linked to my user name; I rarely get email there and therefore don't check it much). So please look for any possible spam folders on any device/PC you use.
If this doesn't work, use the "Contact us" form on GP. I did that (right before I found the spam folder) and was promptly sent a PW reset code.
Your account is not lost, no need to start a new one! HTH.
