Raikou Comments

I powered a Raikou recently and would just like to share some thoughts:

As a generalist it is a combination of a bad Dragonite and a bad Ttar. It lags behind the speed of Dnite while lags behind the bulkiness of Ttar. If you think Raikou will do wonders as a generalist, don't be.

As a specialist vs Water/Flying gyms pokemon, the most obvious target is Gyarados and Vaporeon. Against some 3k Gyarados targets it cannot be taken out with one WC, it needs at least 2. Therefore Zapdos might actually have the edge in rapid charging 2 TBs with the low damage but high energy charge beam to defeat gyarados more quickly. The best matchup for Raikou is Vaporeon where the battle is somewhat prolonged, I really like it vs Vaporeon.

But even Raichu can take down normal vaporeon. The disappearance of Vaporeon raid boss makes Raikou not an absolute must (even when Vape was around, it probably wasn't a must either)

Therefore the experience has been rather underwhelming both as a generalist and some optimal matchups. I will look forward to using it if a Gyarados boss comes around.

I dont like the generalist concept anyways. I like using counters. Therefor my expectetions about raikou is not high like most people. Its just a bulkier jolteon for me.

It will be a must when Kyogre comes out as an legendary raid. i have powered up my 98% IV (15 atk, 14 def, 15 sta) and i love using him as a generalist as well. Wild Charge is very fast and high damaging charge move, what gives you a nice advantage on dodging oponents charge moves. Not to mention how fast thunder shock is and builds energy fast. I love it and i recomend powering one Raikou at least if you have the dust and a nice IV one.

Is 13.64 EPS of CB make such a difference vs 13.33 of TS?

Nope. Definitely not enough to be worth the drop in DPS or harder dodging.

Even though Zapdos has a higher attack stat, Thunder Shock/Wild Charge makes Raikou much better. Now if they fix Charge Beam and/or give Zapdos access to Thunder Shock, it might be a closer question.

Ok I stand corrected and I didn't realise TS charges that quickly!

Both Zap and Raikou need the 2 charge moves to kill (for their best 2 bars) but Zap might just do it a tiny bit better, Raikou would most likely overkill.

No, Thunderbolt charges Gyarados' energy bar more slowly, and being paired with the low power Charge Beam, those Hydro Pumps aren't likely to be used.

I have been using my level 30 Zapdos all this while before deciding to power up my Raikou to level 30 after reading all the reviews and comparison betweeb both.. Tried both against Vapo and Gyra recently..

It seems that Zapdos defeated both Gyra and Vapo quicker with its CB and TB and seems agile to dodge most of their charge moves. On the other hand, Raikou seems sluggish and slow because of his large size and heavy weight and unable to dodge most of their charged moves...

Anyway, I have decided to use just Raikou for gym and raid battles in the future as I am a person who dislikes trying to choose and prefer to just stick to one Pokemon type... Just like Moltres vs Entei, I am still deciding which to focus and use.. LOL

We have Suicune here...needed all my Raikous today...caught a 13/14/12 Rock/Hydropump...better than my 1561 Ghost BB and 1564 Grass BB. Looking like tops I might get 2 more Suicune

Yes, definitely possible.

Charge Beam: 13.64 EPS
Thunder Shock: 13.33 EPS
The difference is marginal.
