IVs (HP/At/Def) question

Hello guys! I've got a question. If I want a great atacker, do I have to look for a decent Def stat base?

For exemple: I got a 82% Rhydon today wit' 15 HP, 14 At and 8 Def.

1) Will this Rhydon be a great atacker?
2) Does its defense influence his battle in a Raid?

I'm asking these questions because my point of view is: HP and Def is for Defending Gym and At and HP is for Atacking Gyms and Raids. And I wrong?

PS.: I've got some other Pokémon in this situation, Ttars with 15 or 14 HP and At and low Def, for exemple and I want to power some of them up.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you're wrong.
All IVs matter, whether defending or attacking.
Defense is responsible for reducing damage that you will take (HP lost). Attack will increase damage. HP is your survival time, which is enhanced through damage reduction by Def.

It is usually advisable to look at base stats and balance the weakest one through higher IV. For Tyranitar that's HP, but Defense isn't that much higher, so you should consider them both.

Your Rhydon will be a pretty good attacker. Rhydons problem are his moves anyway. And your Rhydon will faint a little quicker than a better IV one.

Thank you so much for your reply! I'm gonna consider thinkin' twice to evolve and power up some of my Pokémon.

I've got a 93% Ttar wit' 15 HP, 13 At and 15 Def. So, as you said, its lowest base stats are HP and Def so, considering that, it's a good Ttar and woth powering up, right?

yeah, 96 and very nice pokémon. Some purists might argue that 13 attack isn't enough but it's very good.

It is good. When discussing breakpoints, say vs Mewtwo, 13 attack has a breakpoint on Bite at level 28 vs level 27.5 if the attack is 14 or 15. Not that significant of a difference IMO to warrant not powering a 96 IV Mon up.

Thank you!! Breakpoint is something new for me, I'm trying to understand it yet. I have lots of 87, 89, 91, 93 percent pokemon that I'm afraid to power up. I'm trying not to waste dust.

I think I'm going to focus on soling Machamp and Gengar first, then Vaporeon.
