Todays Idle Musing: New Players
In some ways, being a new in the last 6 month span player is easier: XP via raids is far faster. Coins are easier to get. Raids mooching makes it easy to get Ttar, legendaries and other level 20s.
Of course dust is harder without old gym system + faster leveling means less powered up pokemon.
But I think the hardest obstacle a new player has is dilution.
Not only for Dex Completion purposes but also for power purposes.
Far less eevee candy to get a Vaperon with. ((not as big a deal for Flareons/Jolteons if you managed to start in time to get a legenedary fire/electric)
Far less Geodude/Dratini for Golem & Dragonite.

I started in July and will likely hit level 33 tonight (thanks to Raikou's arrival). hunting out nests was how I got the critical 'mon - I still could do with exeggute and rhyhorn candy, so am walking them.
I think we are just starting into a different game, easy/difficult is a strange concept, more just different.
They mostly have it easier, but they also seem lazier because of it. Many low-level players I see seem to think raids are the only way to level, and I see them complaining about how they're so close to level 28 or whatever, but can't get there because there aren't enough people raiding right then. They're also the players who complain about not having enough potions, revives, or stardust, because they just drive from raid to raid and never spin any stops or catch regular pokemon.
Also much easier to get a decent number of coins now. Even when I was well into the 30s, it was incredibly difficult to hold any gyms long enough to get more than 10 or 20 coins a day, but now anyone can get 50 without trouble.
It is easier for sure. Easier to level up, more spawns, easier gyms to collect coins, can group up with others to do raids etc.
The biggest downfall is they have to be extremely picky on which pokes to power up. Especially when you are in your 20s. They want instant gratification and have that mon powered up, only to find better ones when they are in their 30s.
Stardust is very hard to come by and needs to be rationed and only used on the best mons. Save your stardust!
I began playing 6 months ago. I wouldn't start playing until I finished my eng degree and had free time lol, but I've been pretty avid (Lv 32). I agree about dilution - has been more difficult for me to fill my Dex, and sadly I have only 1 Snorlax, 1 Dragonite, 1 Gyarados and 0 Chanseys. Luckily in my location Eevees are still common. I also missed out on Gyarados's by missing the Water Festival.
