Why are Xatus with FS regarded as good attackers against Machamp Raid Boss?

I have read a couple of posts on this web site to the effect that Xatus with FS are good attackers against a Machamp raid boss. It is not intuitively obvious, at least to me, why this is so. But then again, I have not tried one. Can anyone with relevant experience please explain? Thank you.

Its SE and STAB against. Recently someone posted a video of a solo raid in which they won with 6 of them powered up

Thanks for the insight. How high were they powered up? Level 31 is a "powered up" and so is level 39, but there is a big difference in cost of power up.

They are NOT good. Those 6 Xatu were powered up above lvl 38, costing 650,000 stardust and he managed to beat Machamp with 0 seconds left.
It's a fun thing though.

Gud Nuff to solo a machamp gym. What a waste tho lol

They're only good as a gimmick. When you list the best attackers fit for machamp you have to go pretty far down the line before you hit Xatu.

Dan - Thanks. That was what I thought, too, but my thoughts are not always correct (actually, they are "seldom correct" according to my spouse). She may be right.

As a married man myself, I can relate. I've grown so used to being wrong, that it doesn't even bother me any more!

Yes, Xatu has all the right externals, STAB psychic attack with good damage, resists fight, but the CP is just too low. For the same reason that a 10/10/10 Mewtwo is probably someone's strongest pokemon, or at least the one with the most potential (if they don't have a better Mewtwo).

of course it is.

Xatu is flying/psychic, double resists fighting moves.
And its attack stat is higher than Snorlax, Muk, Suicune and Lapras!!

Its defence sucks though ....

A double resist adds a fair amount of bulk to event the of frailest mons.

That said you won't see me powering one up, and I've powered up some pretty 'trash' mons

More of a glass rifle, if anything. Double resistance lets it survive long enough to do a small amount of damage.

It is the glass cannon version of Lugia.

With ATK under 200 it's hardly a cannon. More like a glass slingshot.
Poor man's Lugia is the right term.
