Was it a mistake to power up my 100% banette?

Well gengar is better so was it a mistake?

SC/ShB banette has a niche against psychic Pokemon with psychic attacks. He is equivalent to a H/ShB gengar but a bit more bulky due to taking neutral damage.

The issue is that it's too slow and the increase in survivability is not a big enough difference.

Sure it's a bit more bulkier but not by a significant amount - Banette is still a glass cannon, so you'd be looking at a similar total damage dealt due to the lower attack offsetting the increased survivability, and lower DPS which isn't what you want in raids.

Look at Alakazam (and Mewtwo) simulations with double psychic moves where Banette supposedly has an advantage or is at least on par with a Hex / Shadow Ball Gengar:

Alakazam with Confusion / Future Sight:
Gengar with Hex / Shadow Ball - 187.3s, 16 deaths
Banette with Shadow Claw / Shadow Ball - 193.8s, 14 deaths

Alakazam with Psycho Cut / Future Sight
Gengar with Hex / Shadow Ball - 187.4s, 10 deaths
Banette with Shadow Claw / Shadow Ball - 195.6s, 11 deaths

Not significantly higher in survivability but still slower clear times. It's filling the same niche as Gengar but does a worse job of it.

I did the same simulation for lvl 30 Mons. Against C/FS Bannete is faster. Against PC slower. Simulations without dodging.

Not sure what you're doing differently because I've checked every moveset and Gengar is faster for all of them.

This is the page I'm on.

Congrats on a 100%. I probably would have powered it up but slowly as a long term project like I am doing with 100% Ninetale and Pidgeot that I have. Technically they are not really worth it but I still use them and they are fun because they are 100%, and if the game isn't fun then whats the point?

100% agree with this. I use a 97% Ninetales that I was excited about when I was around level 20. If you like Banette and want to use a 100% Banette then go for it. This is Pokemon Go and not VGC so have fun with sub-optimal pokemon.

Not a mistake, if you like using it. Besides, you won’t regret powering up this one if you came across a better one because the one you have is the best of that species.
