Best strategy for holding gyms

So, the new EX wave has gone live and...we got a pass here!
Now I was thinking: what is the best strategy to hold the gym for your color? How razzberries should be given to pokemon in that gym? there is a particular strategy to follow?
If the rais starts at 12 am, should we try to keep the gym since like 9am? or would you go around 11 and keep it for an hour?
Yeah I know, lot of question ahah but trying to figure out the best strategy!

There is technique posted over on Reddit Silph Road for over turning any gym using only 4 attackers, and regardless of berries they use, because they never get a chance to use them. Check it out.

Lol, looks like they might have erased it, can't find it with a search.

Here's a synopsis:
(1) all attackers attack the first defender
(2) all but one attacker quits when the defender gets very low on health
(3) the last person keeps attacking, until one charge move will finish off the defender
(4) meanwhile the other folks attack the same defender again, but they get a brand new attack
(5) all but one of them quits at low health, and that one person gets the defender to the point where one charge move will finish it
(6) other folks attack the first defender again
(7) all three attacks knock the defender out at the same time.
(8) anyone watching will see a defender go from full health to knocked out with no time to berry
(9) the team now has ten minutes to knock out the other 5 defenders the same way
(10) no new defenders can be added during those ten minutes
(11) done

It's going to be hard to do on a 3k blissey, the first attacker is likely to time out.

Easier with more than 4 people, I think that is the minimum they reported.

Wow great strategy!
I don't get the steps 3 and 4 tho...
if one stays in the first battle and the others quit, wouldn't they get in the same attack of the attacker that stayed in if the start a new battle, or they start a "new instance"?

If the defender's health is low enough (I remember 2/9 full when I read the report) in a current instance, then new gym attackers will be assigned to a new battle instance. Also the whole gym has to be taken down in 10 minutes, because that's how long the gym will not accept new Pokemon after the first one is knocked out.

Oh and also, the step 9 means that they need to wait 10 minutes for each defender that it's in the gym? Or that they need to beat the entire gym in 10 minutes?

They need to beat the entire gym within 10 minutes from the time they knocked the first defender. After 10 min the defending team can put a new mon in the gym.

Good strategy but doesn't work like it intended in real life most of the time. U will have stragglers and other teams attacking at same time too.

Good point. If the other team has alt-accounts, they could attack their own gym if they knew what was happening. Then they would get windows where they could berry.
