Hope PvP in 2018 Disallows L40 Mon

This board mimics a micro-slice of today's America in one particular area: deteriorating moral compass. The L40 Mon issues: just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

The litmus test for should/not is VERY SIMPLE: IF IT CREATES AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE, THEN, DON'T DO IT.

All these word-smith trying to mince a wrongful right from various shades of gray... Disconcerting.

Remember how honest players really disliked spoofers at then L10 gym tower scenes? Well, very simply, the spoofers held unfair advantages.

I really hope that, in the upcoming PvP in 2018, they will disallow all L40 Mon.

Play straight and fairly, trainers.

Thank you for being the ultimate arbiter of what is fair.

You are welcome, but I'm afraid some trainers may have been corrupted already... who knows...

Remember Trainers, Pokemon GO will be a game with loooooong life. It's a lot harder to keep you account clean and untainted. But worth the effort.

How can someone be "corrupted with a sense of superiority" if all he ultimately asks for is that in a PvP scenario everyone plays on a level playing field (as opposed to some "because I can" players using trackers and multiple devices to push their 100 iv mons further than non-cheaters will)? I really don't get it.

The fact you referenced 100 ivs, makes me assume you use a IV calculator.

You do realize using an IV Calculator is against the terms of service and arguibly cheating?

An IV Calculator gives you an advantage to have a couple points higher average IV than those who dont.

I have for example a level 38.5 Vaperon thats 84% because It was already over 35 when calculators got exact. If you only have 91+ because of calculators thats unfair in PVP too.

If a pokemon in game says Amazing(top rating for valor) & Blown Away (Top rating for valor) players without calculators can't tell the difference between 82% (15 hp 10 attack 11 def) and 96% (15 hp 14 attack 14 def)

That's how someone is corrupted by a sense of superiority, because he and probably you, don't see anything wrong with using a 3rd party source to IV calculate but yet someone else is immoral because they think 40 is legit cap.

The only thing corrupted here is your integrety. I did read Niantic's tos (did you?). There is nothing in there that prohibits use of iv calculators (provided they don't access Niantic servers). So please be so kind and check your facts first before you go around and talk rubbish. Thank you very much.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

Very well said. I tell this to my kids all the time about life in general.

It used to be that most people would take the high road. Now, people get more pride from getting away with something rather than from knowing they did the right thing.

Sorry to preach. Maybe I should stick to asking which mon I should power up.

Thank you for knowing what the high road is.

Honestly, the whole 39 vs 40 debate is BORING.
It's unwinnable and could easily be solved by Ninatic programmers.

Off the top of my head:
Make power up button not disappear
Roll back all level 40 pokemon to level 39 (We know CPs can change retroactively)

Or if you don't have the time to dedicate programmers to it a simple tweet would work wonders.

"Dear players, we know the button disappears it's not supposed we will fix it eventually"

"Dear players the level cap of pokemon for now is meant to be 39"

Until then, please stop preaching your 1 sided view of what the high road is.

Meh. My comments had nothing to do with a game with a bunch of cartoon characters. I couldn't care less how you or anyone else plays the game. If you can figure out a way to power up to level 50, go for it. What do I care?

The OP's post just struck me as a relavent general statement about how the moral compass is lost. But it sounds like you wouldn't know or care about that. Thus my statement about sticking to the subject matter of the site.

And my reply to you is in the same vein.

It strikes me that the OP is trying to force their individual morality on everyone else.

The idea that "Moral people" can't disagree or have different ideas about what is "Moral" is downright terrifying to me.

Even your reply "Moral Compass" isn't singular. There is no single "Moral Compass", there are many "Moral Compasses" in the world giving different answers trying to navigate as best they can.

There's enough of that in political world, thus I will agree in sense of sticking to subject mater.

Just because you have a different moral view doesn't mean it's right. You should actually demonstrate how his is wrong or yours is superior.

Up

Yeah you should stick to asking for advice in a q and a forum rather than take some kind of nonexistent moral high ground.

Niantic should fix it then, if not, then YOU are at a disadvantage to those who do power to 40, like I might do.

It would be interesting if niantic gave all mons above level 39 the red slash treatment like they did with spoofers. Where the Pokemon become useless unless you can give a legitimate reason for having them at that level. Like a network error or lag that allowed multiple power ups from one device

And I refuse to believe it is a bug that removes the power up button at level 39 because if it was then it would probably be fixed by now

Either way the players that have Pokemon at level 39.5 or 40 are probably big spenders to get to that level and won't receive much punishment because that would be bad for profit

I understand you refuse to think it's a bug.

I on the other hand think it is a bug.

My kids and I play on both phones and tablets. It's easier to look through 1000 pokemon on bigger screen. And sometimes one of them forgets a phone and I have a tablet with me.

Long story short there have been a few times by accident we turn on tablet and phone and have same player on. We see the same pokemon. We click on it and 1 catches. Other says "error" and doesn't allow clicking.

Same with pokestops.

One time we rolled up to a raid, didn't realize I was logged in on tablet, he thought he was. Loaded both up and raided on same account. We got 8 balls. What was wierd was the pokemon ran on both of us at 4 balls left. We were sharing.

All the evidence I've seen when you try and do same action on 2 devices is you get "Error"

Yet somehow you don't get that "Error" when powering up on multiple devices.

I might be wrong in my reasoning, but I am not "Ilegitimate"

And more importantly, it's something Ninatic could have cleared up with 1 tweet, in which case I wouldn't have done it.... because then... wait for it... I would be lllegitimate.

It's defenitely a bug, why would trainer level max at 40 and Mon level max at 39? Niantic is just lazy and hasn't fixed it just like the dodge bug and numerous others. They will eventually fix the bug and everyone who is of level will be able to power up to 40 (or higher if the cap goes up).

How about appealing to Niantic to fix their bugs rather than whine that they should punish players that have circumvented those bugs?

Up

The issue is we don't know if it is supposed to be like this or not. Since there is no clear answer on how it is supposed to be, I don't see it as a crime to power up to 40 nor will I create an argument for either side. Instead I will just try to keep playing the game peacefully like I have from the beginning.

it's a fair enough point. The multidevice/ airplane mode power ups are an obvious exploit, people who argue otherwise are just seeking justification for what they must know is not an intended activity even if it doesn't technically break TOS.
If it wasn't an exploit they would not have deliberately removed the multifinger power up bug.
Exploits in any game have always been considered a form of cheating.
It gives people who have cheated an advantage over those who haven't.

Up

What is the advantage? There is no pvp the only thing I use my mons for is raiding And helping others I don't even battle gyms because it's so trivial. So there is no advantage because there is no competition only cooperation.

Up
0
Down

that's the point of the post if PVP is implemented that exploit mons can't be used.

otherwise I agree I barely give a rats. It doesn't really effect me or my gameplay.

Unfair advantage? lol, You do realize ANYONE is capable of powering up their Pokemon to lvl 40 using either the multiple-device or airplane mode method, if they really wanted to? That includes you, too. The same applies for spoofing, as well; if you really wanted to, you, along with everyone else, can easily spoof. That doesn't sound like an unfair advantage to me.

If Niantic has an issue with the lvl 40 cap, then what was the point of making lvl 40 the highest level in the game in the first place? In that case, Niantic should just completely patch out these tricks that bypass the lvl 39 cap, or just completely remove level 40 overall and make level 39 the true cap for all Pokémon AND for the trainer level. Or, you know, Niantic can just fix this bug and make it possible to power up Pokémon to lvl 40 using the power-up button, and then it disappears for good, and then people can stop complaining about an issue that shouldn't even be considered an issue.

I don't understand why powering up Pokémon to lvl 40 is even an issue, in the first place. It's literally coded in the game for every Pokémon to reach, and only two extra power ups that really aren't a significant CP difference to the lvl 39 cap. If it's a part of the game intentionally developed by Niantic, then I don't really see how it's a form of cheating, to be honest. The only ones that see this as a problem and a big deal are the ones continuously bashing those who chose to max out their Pokémon to lvl 40 just because they didn't do it "legitimately". If you have a problem with it, complain to Niantic, not the ones who want to get their Pokémon to the highest possible level in the game. As far as I'm concerned, lvl 40 is still in the game, it wouldn't make sense to me to be penalized for reaching a point in the game that Niantic created for us to reach. I could care less if this comment gets dislikes, just thought I'd post my two-cents on the matter. Hopefully, it provides some perspective.

Also, how is there an advantage in a system with little competition? I mostly just use my mons to help fellow raiders so I don't understand who is hurt by me powering my mons, just jealous people?

Up
0

Couldn't have said it better myself. They don't have to be envious, though, because they're able to do it, too. It's just them bickering about people who do it that's annoying, that's all.

Up
0

Just to be clear, your defense is that cheating doesn’t give players an unfair advantage because anyone can cheat if if they want to?

Up
0
Down

AGAIN, don't see how it's cheating if it's a part of the game's progress literally developed by Niantic itself for people to reach. But, if that's what you're gonna call it, then whatever.

Spoofing obviously has mechanics that can be considered cheating (if that's what you were referring to), but powering up your Pokémon to lvl 40? Not even close.

Point is, everyone has access to powering up their Pokémon to lvl 40. So, anyone can use the tricks to bypass the lvl 39 cap, so it's not an unfair advantage, since anyone can do it. That is, until Niantic (hypothetically) removes those tricks, but doesn't fix the lvl 39 cap bug, then it becomes an unfair advantage, or if only a handful of people were able to do the trick, then that also becomes an unfair advantage. Either way, it really doesn't matter at this stage of the game, and I don't really care what people's stances are on the matter, because Niantic hasn't done anything about it, even a year after this game's release, and it is so trivial to me. If you want to max your Pokémon to lvl 40, go right ahead. More power to you. But, if not, that's also fine. Until Niantic addresses this, there really is no right or wrong answer to this.

Up

And everyone has the ability to spoof, guess that makes your point about using exploits moot.

Say what you want, but you're cheating.

Up
0

so why spoofing is called a cheat but not a bug
answer it
and you will know what level 40 mon is called

Congrats on winning the Doctorate in False Equivlency.

The power to 40 debate is based on there is credible evidence and logic that the 39 cap is a bug. Hence you can argue 40 is legit.

There is zero credible evidence that not teleporting is a bug.

What about the players that did it accidentally due to lag?

Wouldn't it be better if Niantic just fixed it properly...what ever thet may entail?

Up
0
Down

Yes, it would be better. What I'm mainly unsure about is why Niantic hasn't exactly addressed it for this long period of time. But, who knows, hopefully, it might be fixed up in the very next big update.
