Lapras: Ice Beam vs Blizzard

Hey guys,

Silly question here. I just hatched my second Lapras, 73% IV, with Frost breath and Blizzard. I have another one with higher IV (89%) but with Ice Beam for its charge move. I ended up investing all the candies into that first one (she now sits at 2117 CP).

This second hatch gave me another 28 candies and I was wondering whether or not to keep powering up my Ice Beam Lapras or start investing on the new girl with optimal moveset.

Any advice you guys have will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This was the first, with Ice Beam.

Since you've already started upgrading the second one, just keep going.

Ice beam is just fine attacking, and also good at defense. Blizzard is a great move but has a freaking long animation.

True that. Thank you. I suppose you're right, since I can use Ice Beam both offensively and defensively, right?

Ice beam and blizzard are both great charge attacks offensively and defensively. What makes a Lapras a better defender is really it's quick attack. Ice shard deals more damage defensively.
That being said, Lapras is a great defender with any movese.
If I were you I'd keep posting up the one with ice beam and use it as a main defender while keeping the one with blizzard just high enough to be able to take down 2-3 dragonites in a row. I think 1800-1900 should do. It's very useful as is already.

I think I would get hit more from Ice Beam than Blizzard. I dodge but the whole double Ice Beam in a row or during bad timing gets me more than Blizzard. I powered up my Ice Beam one over my Blizzard.

Anyone else disagree? Would like to hear someone argue for Blizzard>Ice Beam for Defense

It's a good question and I can argue both sides - one big devastating attack vs. a semi-spam of very strong attack. The case for Blizzard is that the animation is confusing to some and many folks are not good at dodging it / don't think it can be dodged. If you get hit with Blizzard, it's almost game over...

Honestly, I'd be happy with either but my main defensive Lapras is IS / Blizzard.

Once the blizzard animation starts I dodge right until the flash happens. I never get hit with that move.

Which means you are dealing 0 DPS during that time.

... I frequently find myself doing the same thing against Blizzard, Fire Blast, Solar Beam, Hyper Beam, etc. Those are all easier to dodge because of the long wind up, but actually harder to play optimally against because of that.
