lapras ice beam vs blizzerd

I hatched a 89 % lapras with frost breath/ice beam.
on this site ice beam and blizzerd are both A ranked but when you look at the dps blizzerd is significantly better ( 20.82 dps vs 30 dps).
whats your opinion on the moves?

Power it up! 89% is awesome for a elite/rare pokemon like Lapras. On top of that FB/IB is great for offense and it it more than adequate enough for defense. He will be useful for both purposes and if you can max power him or eventually max power him, he will have a beast CP.

Blizzard:

Pros:
- More damage on offense
- Harder to dodge on defense (for some people)

Cons:
- Less damage on defense
- Casting Blizzard takes longer and therefore makes it harder to dodge while attacking
- If you like to wait with your charge move before enemy uses its charge move, you are likely to lose some energy.

Ice Beam:

Pros:
- More damage on defense
- More energy efficient

Cons:
- Less damage on offense
- Easier to dodge on defense (for some people).

Personally I have Blizzard on my offensive Lapras and I have liked it so far, but I'm sure Ice Beam will work just as well.

Ice Beam deals more as you can use it twice damaging 65 each use (total damage 130) and you can use Blizzard only once damaging 100.

The bad point about Ice Beam is it's cooldown. It's cooldown is almost the same as the Blizzards cooldown (IB = 3.65sec each use Vs Blizzard = 3.9sec), what means that, with Ice Beam, you need 7.3 seconds to deal 130, while with blizzard you need 3.9seconds to deal 100.

That 3.4 seconds of difference between them, if you are using the Blizzard Lapras, will be used to use the Frost Breath quick move 4 times.

Each Frost Breath use with Lapras deals 11. 4x11=44. So the Blizzard Lapras deals 44 more in a full cycle (quick moves untill full energy + charge moves) in comparison to the Ice Beam Lapras.

So yes, the Blizzard one is better. But the Ice Beam one is still an A. If you got enough candy to power it up untill the max cp, go ahead.

Just correcting this slightly:
Assuming all else is correct (it looks right) the "full cycle" comment is misleading.

As noted, Ice Beam deals 30 more damage in two uses compared to a single Blizzard. However with the longer cast time of two uses, the Blizzard Lapras can use extra quick moves (specifically 4 FBs here).

That's 36 (FB is 9 damage, not 11) extra damage from quick moves, at the cost of 30 less damage from charge moves. Which is a net difference of 6 damage. It's slightly worse than this since those 4 FBs will gain some energy towards the next Blizzard - but not nearly as bad as 44 less damage.

When you consider that the cycle is probably about 10 FBs for a full energy bar (since you gain energy when you take damage too), that's 220 damage with Ice Beam versus 226 damage with Blizzard. We're looking at about a 3% difference between the two moves.

You are right. I did this terrible mistake forgetting to add the 30 extra damage from ice beam. I used 11 for the Frost Breath because of the stab Lapras has on it. Because of the stab, the move don't damage 9, but damage the true DPS multiplied by the cooldown, so 13.58x0.81 equals 11. But I made another mistake on this: I forgot to consider the true DPS on Blizzard and on Ice Beam.

The true full cycle difference would be:
Blizzard true damage: (30x3.9) = 117
Ice Beam true damage (used twice): 2(20.82x3.65) = 152
4 times Frost Breath: 11x4 = 44

So the real difference between them would be 44+117 = 161 minus 152 = 9.

So the real difference between the FB/Blizzard and FB/IB Lapras is 9. The Blizzard Lapras deals 9 more each cycle it does.

I get more damage from ice beam because of short time until yellow screen flash. Blizzard have a long time to prepare for dodging. But both very good on off. and def.
Still waiting for my first lapras

This is a no-brainer, 89% Lapras with FB/IB ?

Whoa, you was really lucky out there. Offensively both Blizzard and IB are almost as good. What defines your Lapras from being offensive or defensive is the quick move, and you got Frost Breath, so you have an attacking beast out there.

Power that beast to the max, right now.

Making comparisons to damage, duration, and energy gain/cost of other moves you may have used:

Frost Breath is similar to Fire Fang.
Ice Shard is similar to Mud Slap, Razor Leaf, and Confusion.

Ice Beam is simlar to Flamethrower and Thunderbolt.
Blizzard is similar to Fire Blast, Hydro Pump, Thunder, and Solar Beam.
