Mewtwo Hyperbeam

I powered up my Mewtwo with Confusion / Hyper Beam up to level 30, and was planning to use a Charge TM since most websites (including this one) say Hyper Beam is his worst charge move.

But in simulation results, Hyper Beam is clearly the highest DPS in neutral matchups. I would still prefer Focus Blast since overpowered Blissey is the only matchup that REALLY matters, but now it isn't as clear cut (33% chance to improve, 66% chance to get worse, and I don't have many charge TMs)

Why is Hyper Beam rated so badly? Sure it sucks on defense since it will be dodged, but that is irrelevant for Mewtwo. What am I missing?

There is very few things it is effective against.
When the other moves are in matchups making them (super) effective then they are superior.

Mewtwo is an attacker, and so you always get to choose the matchup, making the most of the super effective bonuses.

If Mewtwo could be a defender then neutral matchup dps would be more relevant.

Actually there is nothing that Hyperbeam is super effective against.

I started psychic; hyper beam, focus blast, hyper beam, shadow ball. Worth it in my opinion, I want Mewtwo for raids. There are a lot of things that beat blissey/snorlax. Favorite your machamps and alakazams for easy placement, and just spend a few potions since they can be glassy against full strength bulky defenders. Build up a dragonite to use when your prime specialized attacker faints.

Well even if we talk only about raids - Hyperbeam is Mewtwo's best move against every legendary except Lugia and Mewtwo himself. So still I ask what am I missing?

How did you get those numbers? I usually get that shadow ball has around 30-40% higher DPS than hyper beam.

I feel you on the Hyperbeam. It's as neutral as you can get and was always one of the top moves in Pokemon. If there was ever to be a rework in damage output again, they need to make that move do 200 damage instead of 150. Especially how slow it is. Solar beam already does 180 and was never on par with Hyperbeam in the main series.

Hyper beam is worse then shadow ball even in neutral set up:
Shadow ball: 100x2=200damage
Total cool down: 6s
Hyper beam: 150 damage
Total cool down: 3,8

6-3,8=2,2

Mewtwo Confusion DPS: 23,13
23,13*2,2=50,8

So hyper beam has 200,8 damage vs shadow balls 200,0.

Basically take shadow ball. Make it a one bar move. Give it a worse type coverage and increase its DPS rate with 0,4%; hyper beam
