a tendency since gym rework

before gym rework, a handful of players ruled my town with an iron fist. they took back gyms within an hour if they got tooken over. with the new mechanic, these old players all disappeared. i wonder if anyone elso noticed a similar situation? i'm very happy cause i never got a coin in the old system, but now i get my coin almost every day with little effort and never kick anyone out before 8h to avoid enemies.

Had a few of those players. Most of them were sppofers and i guess they got banned. Except for one spoofer.
I see a lot of new names in my gyms since the last few dasy and no one seems to know them. Some people might have stopped playing

Since the last update that clamped down on spoofers the 7 or 8 gyms close to me are practically dead. Theres only 3 or 4 players i see consistently in gyms. All those gyms are within a 700m-1km radius

That was how team Valor in general acted around here, constantly tried to own every gym in the area, and took them back so quickly that it was impossible to hold any longer than 10, maybe 20 minutes, and I just settled with taking 10 coins most days. When I sometimes drove 45 minutes into the city, though, those gyms often lasted a few days, since there were just so many gyms around, nobody could claim them all like they do in rural areas.

I was doing a little better toward the end of the old system, because I found 5 or 6 gyms scattered around other areas that I was able to hold for days to weeks at a time. They were each like an hour away and in super inconvenient locations, like a little island you had to reach by boat, or places you had to hike for miles to use, etc. So I was a little annoyed that the gym system changed right after I finally started getting some decent rewards from the old system, but yes, the new system has evened things out quite a bit for my local gyms, so I don't have to rely on those remote gyms anymore.

There are still a couple of Valor players who sometimes try to claim every gym (like the guy who kicked me out of my last gym at just before midnight last night, way in the back of a cemetery), but most of the time the gyms are a mix of colors now, and I almost always get my 50 coins.

It was red spoofers here to that played that way. The 20 gym limit curtailed there worst excesses and I suspect the weren't banned but robed of the ability to troll play they have mostly gotten bored and left.

There isn't any incentive to "hold gyms" anymore. Actually, quite the opposite, a lot of times you want to encourage people to come and attack daily, you simply want to occupy a gym long enough to get your coins and hope to get the boot.

There are about 8 "active gyms" within 2 miles of my house. Most of the time the colors flip pretty regularly, but one gym is like you describe, always the same color and if you knock it down it's back a few minutes later. For a little less than a week I went there and knocked them out every morning, getting them their coins, hoping that I'd be knocked out after work. But at most I'd get 1 or 2 coins. So I stopped going there, screw them. I drive by on occasion and see that it's been the same color for 5,7,12 days. A lot of good that does them.

Same here. They were almost all spoofers and they moved on to easier areas. The team that used to dominate cannot even rank here anymore. I feel bad for their members that didn't cheat now although they tagged along for so long I am not exactly shedding tears for them lol

Yes, same here.
Keeping a gym was pretty much impossible in my town for players of my color.
Now gyms are less important and to me and many others they are back again.
I found some of my towns old players at raids.
They mostly care about gold-gyms nowadays in hope for the ex-raids.
I don't complain.
Before the rework i was close to give up on gymplay altogether. Now i can take part again which is great even if it's just duelling the AI for now.
About all the players i've met have an arrangement with their neighbours about the eigth hours too.
After the hard fight for dominance over the old gyms peace has come and old enemys fight side by side in raidpartys and approve of each others catches.

Before I had over 40 pokemon in gyms and some for very long times. I think my record was over 6 months! After I have only 10 in gyms, and the turnover is much higher. I don't think I've had one last more than a week. The gym scene is now more dynamic, and I'm always trying to get more gold gym badges. Once a gym is gold, I often leave it to others.

That said, I did find the prestiging system of the old gyms a lot of fun. The problem was some gyms tended to be really tough to take down.

The old system was great, IF you were one of the few that took part, I must admit I was one of them & had alot of fun whilst racking up oodles of coins & dust. I still miss it, the new system is dull & boring in comparison. I very rarely see the old names now, I know many still play but they concentrate more on the raid scene. Yes there were spoofers, but most, in my town anyway were just keen competitors, having fun with it like me. Doing raids it's been good to actually put faces to names, as doing gyms was quite a solitary experience. They all agree they miss the competition. Things had to change tho to get more people involved, gyms are now accessible to all & the coins are more shared out, minus the stardust. Working on the gold badges has been ok, but long term, I feel they will have to make gyms more competitive again, already I'm seeing less activity & come winter time that will get even worse.

The old system was great if you were on the majority team in your area. If you were on either of the other teams, it was an exercise in frustration. There were days I spent 5 or 6 hours just fighting gyms, over and over, and I still only got to collect from 3 or 4 by the time I ran out of potions and went home. I'd drive all around trying different gyms, but no matter where I went, I'd lose each one within minutes of driving away, often before I even reached the next one. Sometimes I'd prestige against myself to bring a gym up to level 5 or so to try to give myself more time, but I'd still get kicked out too quickly to make any difference.
Honestly, the old system was not fun at all, more often infuriating and sometimes made me think about quitting the game. I'm glad it's gone.

Of course, the players who were on that majority team have no idea how much of a pain they made it for everyone else. Once we started meeting everyone during the raids, there were multiple times I heard Valor players complaining about how the days of 100 easy coins per day were gone.

Now there's still plenty of competition, but all sides can benefit. I was in 9 gyms at one point a few days ago, and I'd lost them all by the next day, but at least I actually got some coins out of them.

I enjoyed the old gym system, too. I held between 20 and 30 gyms consistently. Mystic was the majority team in the area, and we were also the first team to really use social media to coordinate gym control. I enjoyed the challenge of prestiging gyms. There were some Instinct spoofers, and it was a real challenge for me, a real-world player in running shoes, to compete!
The new system, however, has really brought more trainers into the game. I've met players on other teams and made friends of former rivals. our social media has grown from about 30 hard-core Mystic gym controllers to almost 400 raiders of all teams. We try to coordinate gym flipping so we all get coins and gym badges.
There have even been trainers I strongly suspected of being spoofers now show up in real life at raids! I think that this may be best thing from the rework; not so much cracking down on spoofers, but changing the incentives so that spoofers want to become real players.

It's died down a lot since the gym system is so easy now. First week of the rework, I had over 1000 hours defended.
Now I barely get 1,000 hours in like 3-4 weeks cause it's pointless going all over town just to have your gyms get taken down in a few hours since players will never fight against your Pokemon's true potential because the CP decays so fast just weakening it.

Mystic was once dominant in town, and toward the end (after getting pretty good at prestiging) I was able to collect my max coins. Now there's only a core group of Mystic and Valor players > lvl 35 left who usually let each other get coins; Instinct, most of them lower level, like to kick us out without consideration for coins... not nice. They need to learn gym etiquette!

If we could only bring everyone together for a t5 raid one day... which hasn't happened yet... we would probably all get along and get max coins ;)

yeah, instinct players, i know.
before you go and teach them manners, have you tried to talk to them?.
maybe you just have to point out that mystic and valor already have an agreement about letting each other get coins and so on.
as i know my fellow teammates they will surely understand.

I don't mind Instinct, and we don't have a spoken agreement with Valor... more like an understanding. I don't know why Team Instinct don't wanna play with us. I would like to get along :-)

The new gym system is just shit. It is so boring.
Even a level 25 player can take over 10 gyms wich stands nearby in 1 hour if he want. He just need to wait a few hours until the motivation decrease on a low level.

There is no differens between a level 30 player to level 40 player. It doesnt really matter what you place in gyms. Mostly i put chanseys in to the gym to piss other players off. They got less Points for overwhelming them but still need to spend most time for a defender.
