I think people is obsessed with IV's. When people in raids catch the moon and she has 80% IV they say: "she is a bad one"... An 80% IV Tyranitar is a bad one??? come on...

I think people let pass the opportunity to really enjoy the game waiting long time for the perfect pokemon taking into account that the reward is not very significant...

thoughs?

Its attack IV?

For the long run 80% is a bad one. If you mind IVs from the beginning it's fairly easy to get a whole >90% pokedex. It does save a lot of stardust+candy (=time!). I have played this way since the start and I've enjoyed so far

It's true that people may overhype the necessity of high/maxed out IVs, but there are circumstances where they can make a notable difference, namely when you are raiding. If you are attempting to solo T3 raids, or just live in an area with a smaller number of players and are trying to defeat a T4 or T5, having a powerful team that is closer to perfect than another can be the difference between victory and defeat.

That and the prospect of investing large amounts of stardust and candy in a good but not great mon can lead to remorse if you happen upon a substantially more worthwhile version.

Though I would agree that this level of caution is a practice that mostly those who already have effective teams have the luxury of indulging in.

I have these 2 Dragonites. One is 100%iv and the other is 75%. They are both completely maxed out. The perfect one is cp 3530 and the 75% is cp 3426. Not that big a difference.

It's funny 1 of my favorite mons to use is my 60% iv DB/Hurricane Dragonite. Before I knew anything about iv's, but now he's my only DB version and I use him constantly!

I don't think it's as bad as everyone claiming to stop powering stuff up once it hits level 30. Seriously just because the CP decays by half you're going to stop investing in something even with GREAT IVs? The majority of the community are stuck more on that than actual IVs.

Agree. This may end with breakpoints becoming popular. Several pokemon don't reach their max damage until level ~37. A good excuse to break the boredom

It's like a cycle. Little by little more and more players are recommending to stop powering up at level 30. Now breakpoints are becoming the new topic and you're starting to hear players recommending ONLY investing in it if it has an attack IV stat of 15; totally ignoring the other 2 stats (Defense and Stamina).
Once PvP comes out, if it ever does, the next trending response is going to be only invest in it if the Attack, AND NOW Defense and Stamina are all 15, or as close as you can get to it realistically. Pretty much what we've been saying since the get go that the better the IVs overall, the better your Pokemon will be. Hopefully by then people will understand what the very few of us have been trying to say that IVs matter overall, even if it does seem like forever before you find the right one before making an investment in it.

Before all that, the mantra was: Moveset is most important.

Now that we have had more time and more ways (raids) to get elite pokemon, and TMs to change moves, we need other ways to distinguish what is important... and that naturally falls to looking for better IVs.

Tyranitar (I have 2) and D'nite (4) get maxed no matter what.... love my 38% DB/DC D'nite. I agree that IV's don't always matter.

The thing is that, yes, IV's are very overrated, but that the game itself is more or less about obsessing over stuff like that. Otherwise we could just catch one of each legendary and be done with it. You need that "Ooohh, I might get something better than what I already have"-factor to keep playing.

Hunting for better IV mon gives me a reason to keep going to raids and walking around looking for wild catches. The walking around and meeting people for raids is the fun part, after I've made the pokedex entry, to tell the truth. But, I need a nominal reason to keep doing it, so the hunt for higher IV seems like a fine goal.

Yes, in practice IV is not that important. And the obsession with attack IV being 15, not 14, before power up something is pretty exaggerated. It has almost nothing to say, compared to other factors, in a raid. Getting of an extra charge move (higher def/HP), no lag in mobile/network, and a moist free display (try soloing a tier 3 in rain :-) ) are all things much more important than max attack IV.

I powered up my IV77 DB/DC Dragonite to level 30, from level 20 egg hatch a long time ago.
Yes, IV77. Because of the legacy moveset.

Six posts up:

[...] love my 38% DB/DC D'nite. [...]

77% Db/Dc Dragonite is good. Dragonite has excellent base stats anyway, so it gets a lower proportional increase in its stats from IVs than most other pokemon.

Finally someone who thinks as I do! I think iv's are important just to spend candies correctly. But i have evolved a lot of 30lvl eevees with bad iv, for example, because I have 1400 candies. And now I am powering up two snorlax less than 80% because they have body slam, which is the best defensive charge move and it's legacy (I would do it too if they were 20%)
