How Many Relevant Metagame Mons

Dragonite, Tyranitar and Machamp are by far the pinnacle of the actual metagame, according to the most veterans in PGo, how many of them you consider is a minimum must? Do you prefer quantity Or quality?
Also, is there any other mon that is a must and that is better to have more than one? (Seriously) xD

For me, I prefer diversity, so I try to have at least 3 of the tier 1s, and 1 of all the tier 2s and some tier 3s, at level 30.
It is always good to have as many of the tier 1's as possible. For Tyranitar, with both B/SE and B/Cr.

I have an Alakazam C/FS 2279 level 29 15a/15a/3s that mowed through a ZH/DG Blissey 2100cp today, the computer actually picked it, so I tried it. Dazzling Gleam is easy to dodge when you know you need to dodge. Usually picks straight RS Rhydons, in that sense having variety on your end helps the computer to include more options

Hahahaha. Are we talking about the CURRENT meta?

For gym attacking all you need are dragonites. One Dragonite should sweep the entire gym. I used to use both Dragonite and Tyranitar to attack old gyms but the new gyms are a friggin joke.

For gym defending, anything you catch near the gym before you enter the gym is good enough whether it's a pidgey or a Blissey. The entire gym system is broken

For raids so far, top counters - Tyranitar, Machamp, Dragonite, Golem, Rhydon, maybe Executor if you're into soloing Vapes, and hmmmm. That's it. I don't need anything else to take down any bosses including the birds that's gone for now. Need to bring Mewtwo out already so I can catch that f@ck and move on with my life after this pathetic game it became.

There is a minor level of consideration in gym defending under the current system. Yes it's true that after a couple hours any defender becomes completely trivialized, but I personally find tossing trash pokes on gyms a very short-sighted approach, yes it still takes three battles to completely defeat any fully motivated mon, but a 500 CP pidgey still only takes 2-3 hits per battle, whereas a 2500 CP vaporeon requires exponentially more than that. Beyond the tankiness of a Blissey or perhaps snorlax I find that rare, powerful mons such as dragonite and tyranitar are fine choices since there is a higher chance of other players feeling inclined to feed them berries at the prospect of possible bonus candy. And beyond high tier utility as a defender, the most important factor in making a mon useful on gyms is that of psychological deterrence, e.g. high motivation = increased odds that possible attacking players will find time commitment of fully defeating the gym not worth the effort or healing use.

And seriously, if you're literally just waiting for mewtwo before you quit, I don't see why you don't just quit now if your enjoyment has waned to such a degree, catching it won't even fill out your Gen 1 dex unless you've been cheating or are so rich you can jet around the globe. The main allure of this game has always been the collecting, lording your dominance over other players was always such a shallow aspect of the previous gym meta.

Are you kidding me about psychological deterrent? Hahaha. What gym makeup is going to deter anyone that's a decent level trainer? Also I see less berrying of defenders because of the decrease in golden razz drops. So most of the gyms you come across are going to be filled with weakened defenders. And what is the purpose of defending gyms except collecting coins? Territorial defending has deteriorated since the gym rework so turf wars are gone. So if collecting coins is the only goal for defending gyms you want your defender kicked out after a certain amount of hours.

I don't give a sh$t about not having Mr Mime or Farfetch'd. But I do want a Mewtwo. So yes, after I catch a high IV one I think I may quit the game until things get better. I may join raids here and there for other legendaries but my motivation to play hardcore has waned dramatically because of the broken gym system.

Some people (not me) want gold badge, and some could want gym control bonus.

Let me rephrase. The MAIN purpose is to collect coin.

You don't use golden razzes to try and get candy from gyms, you use every other berry. Feeding from multiple players who are trying to obtain candy and dust in any halfway populated area is the only way a gym defender is kept at any decent level of motivation (e.g. multiple people feeding regular razzes, nanabs, and pinaps can keep a mon fully motivated while a single person obviously can't), unless a player is willing to waste their golden razzes, which no one I've met does, yet they all feed mons whose candy they might want. I guess you must live in a rural area, cuz half the gyms I place a Ttar or dragonite on are already kept at a decent or even completely full level of motivation whenever I go back to toss 10 regular berries at it, which you can do even if it is full.
And seriously, the idea that you'd bother to waste your time toppling a 6 mon gym that is fully motivated when you claim your enthusiasm has waned dramatically is ridiculous, that was my entire point, mons that provide candy people may want will get fed, and people don't feel like attacking a fully motivated gym when there are plenty staffed by players like you who only use weak-ass trash pokes that die in 3 hits.

If you're feeding berries to try to get candies you must not do too much raids and to get rare candies. I don't know ANYONE that uses berries for that purpose. They feed to get dust and raise motivation. Also, I know a lot of people that use golden razz to remote feed when they are getting attacked before their "time" is right to get out to collect coins. But due to the rarer golden drop they decreased the amount to feed gyms remotely.

I live and work in a big city. After enough hours have pass in the gym they stop feeding so they leave the defenders weakened so someone takes them out.

Gym defending is a joke. You need your enemy and hope they knock you out so you can collect. You don't want your teammates to berry your defender after a certain time has passes because you want it out. So your enemy can help and your teammate can screw you. Yeah, shavers during the old system screwed you but that was with multiple accounts which Niantic did not intend players to do. Feeding is part of the game Niantic made as a legit thing to do but it hurts treammates that want out. It's fucking backwards. That is why a lot of hardcore gymers treat this new gym with no respect and why people like me who were die hard gym defenders in the past are putting up trash in gyms now. It's truly a big friggin mess designed by idiots.

No gym ever lasts forever, if your gyms aren't falling quick enough, you aren't on enough of them. I don't waste rare candies because I'm still waiting for mewtwo, feeding my 7 low IV Ttars is an excellent way to gain extra candy for such a desirable mon.

I'm not in a big city, but I'm not rural either, I get on 10+ gyms a day and feed all but 100 pinaps of my berries to my ttars, by the end of the day next to none of them still stand, and none still stand by next morning unless I go out late at night. Feeding is useful and doesn't hurt your allies at all, particularly in your case, don't know why you even bring that up in your list of complaints.

Very rarely can I sweep all 6 defenders with 2 level 30 Dragonites here, let alone 1.
It all depends on your local gym meta.

Same around here. People seem to berry gyms, and there's one group of Instinct who love to do the blissey/chansey/snorlax/dragonite/wigglytuff mix, which just deters everyone. They love to berry their gyms too, and those gyms take a while to burn through, especially wiht the gym errors.

I'm not unconvinced they're spoofers, but it's the same group.

My opinion...

Minimum of two maxed Tyranitars, one with Bite / Crunch, the other with Bite / Stone Edge.

Minimum of two maxed Dragonites with Dragontail / Outrage.

Minimum of two maxed Machamps with Counter / Dynamic Punch.

Minimum of one Level 30 Blissey with Zen Headbutt / Dazzling Gleam.

Minimum of one Level 30 Snorlax with Zen Headbutt / Heavy Slam.

I consider Tyranitar by far the #1 meta-mon. Dragonite is a better generalist, but Tyranitar is a great counter against so many legendaries, even if some of them have now left. I have three L30 Tyranitar with B/SE and will power up my first B/C to L30 during the upcoming week to prepare for Mewtwo.

Golem is also a great meta-mon, but since geodudes nest, I think the best option is just to catch a few high level geodudes in the wild and evolve them to Golem.

I only have one L30 Dragonite, which is DT/O, but honestly I haven't really felt a great need to get another yet.

I have powered up two Machamps to L30 and while I have several other high IV ones at L20, I don't really think it is worth it to power up more at this point. My anti-TTar team is very strong as it is.

Rhydon being the best mon against Raikou, which we haven't gotten here yet, I have two at L30+ and two further in the mid- to high 20's and then a bunch at L20 that I could potentially power up if I feel the need.

Aside from those, I just like to have one strong L30 or so of each of the best mons in the game. I have more of the Eeveelutions, of course, since they are so easy to get, but otherwise I mostly have just one or two at L30 of each quality mon.
