Egg timers are back

Not a question. Only saying raid egg timers are back. Not sure how I feel about that

Confirmed. What I've noticed so far is that none of them are less than an hour, so I suspect that all they are doing is announcing the raid coming up, giving one hour pre-warning before the two hour raid window opens. Saw tier 1 and 2 (pink) and 3 (yellow) raids, so that looks to be the same. Next question is are they the same mon, or have they shifted?

Not a bad thing, all in all.

The one that just hatched near me had only a one-hour raid window when it hatched. It was a silver egg that hatched a Raikou.

I know how I feel about it. I liked it much better without the eggs, so we had two full hours to fight the boss.

Now that it's back to being a mystery egg for half the time, that makes it harder for me to participate. I ride my bike to play this game, so having two hours gave me plenty of time to get to a gym whenever it was something I wanted to fight. But now with only an hour left once we know what it is, I barely have enough time to get there, and more likely they're going to fight it without me, since everyone else drives to play this game. I used to waste a lot of time when it was this way before, biking toward eggs that hadn't hatched yet, then finding out it was something I didn't care about once I was already most of the way there. Plus since most of the players around here are red, now they're going to flip all the blue gyms before the eggs hatch, right after the gym control bonus only just started working again.

Also, when multiple good raids appear at around the same time, only having one hour to actually fight them is going to make it much harder to fight more than a couple of them.

All this means is rushing around more frantically, definitely not an improvement.

I prefer it, gives you more time to arrange the raid. Of course, you don't know what is coming. On the other hand, you're probably up for any 4 or 5 raid anyway.

Problem is nobody comes to a raid if they don't know what it is. So you actually have less time. Most people want to know what it is before they make a trip. I know I would.

Not true. You have no more notice. The only difference is that for the first 50% of the raid you cannot do the raid and don't know what the boss is. How is that a help?

You are confused, there are no extra time to prepare since you don't know what it is. And you lose one hour to fight it. There are no benefits whatsoever from just seeing eggs. Only loss, no gain. Good job Niantic, way to break something that was fixed! I will definitely be raiding less than before. You don't give a child a lollipop then pull it out of their mouth! The poor business decisions Niantic makes is slowly but surely killing this game.

The only benefit I can see is gym battling. You can attack the gym and defeat it at the end of the one hour egg time and then you will get one hour of free protection for your mon during the raid time.

I've decided once and for all how I feel about it, and it's not good. Niantic really needs to understand that you simply can't put a genie back in the bottle.

We've grown accustomed to 2-hour windows of active raids where groups could form and make plans for which to hit next based on time remaining and location. So now we're suddenly back to being expected to hang around a certain area for up to an hour for what might hatch? (except for legendaries, that is). I hope this change doesn't effectively kill my local raid scene totally. It very well might.

/agree. Most lgendary raids i do have less than an hour on them, you definitely won't be able to do as many raids with the dumb eggs. At least we now have the luxury of of knowing which legendary will come from eggs, but this will not always be the case. They are really shooting themselves in the foot, this change WILL result in less raid passes being purchased.

My vote is I HATE the eggs...To me, it is now for anything NOT legendary, it's a 1 hour raid window and that's it...

I also am not going to sit by any Level 4 gym and watch/wait for it to hatch and see if I get disappointed...

I don't personally like it very much, BUT hear me out.

This increases the chances for people who aren't organized or maybe don't even know about the organized groups. In the current system showing up randomly for a legendary raid is a very long shot given the long 2 hour window.

New system: Show up at the beginning of a legendary raid and there's a solid chance that others are there or are arriving imminently. Why? Because when a level 5 egg shows up, everybody knows what it is, but nobody can actually raid it for the first hour, which makes it fairly logical to meet around the time when the egg actually pops.

This was also a major way in how I assembled our facebook raid group in the first place. We used to always go to level 4 raids right when the egg popped and sometimes others would show up and I would inform them about the group.

People don't have time or are not close enough to be there when the egg hatches. I'm not going to a raid unless I know others will be there on discord. This change only lowers the amount of time I'm able to arrange a meeting. You also forgot nonlegendary raids, this change kills those raids and is just very bad overall.

I see that this will make it much harder to raid as groups. There is zero chance that I will go to a gym just to see what pops. I'll wait for it to pop and then see what people post on online at locations I cannot see. I foresee myself doing a lot more solo raids and fewer legendary raids with groups under this system.
Basically there is 50% less time to do raids, so people will be raiding 50% less often unless there is increased raid spawn rates to compensate.

Maybe they want to discourage people from traveling longer distances to do raids. Maybe they are trying to force people to play more locally to where they are.

"Maybe they want to discourage people from traveling longer distances to do raids. Maybe they are trying to force people to play more locally to where they are."

I'm thinking that's the case as well. And it shows that Niantic still has no clue (nor do they apparently care) what it's like for suburban or rural players. In my area, only a few parks have multiple gyms that are walkable to each other. But those parks are all on opposite sides of town. So to do any raid at all requires driving. And now, we have one hour less to do them.

and when the tier 4 opens and it's a Rhydon 5 of the 8 people leave, so the raid is over and everyone drives home annoyed.
