Eggs from Gyms
Some time ago Silph Road did a statistical study that found that some pokestops dropped different egg distributions than others. A few stops dropped more purple eggs, and a few dropped more green eggs. But we had no clue which were which, and had to figure it out from observation.
Lately, I've noticed that, after a long drought of them, I've gotten 4 purple eggs over the last few months, all of them from gyms. So today I did a little experiment. After hatching an egg on the way to work, I didn't spin any stops. At lunch, I walked over to two nearby gyms (both of which I have a gold badge at, neither of which were held by my team at the moment), and spun. At the second one, voila, a purple egg.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or is it just law of small numbers. I'm a free player, and don't buy incubators except for purples, so normally I'm only walking one egg in the infinite incubator - given that, upping my percentage of purple eggs is important.
I'm going to try only spinning gold gyms when I have an egg opening for a while, and see what that gets me. Thinking back on my gym spins, I've gotten 5 (now) purples, two greens, and one orange, while stops have netted me lots of orange, three green and one purple over the same time period.
Anyone else with data on this, please weigh in. Would hate to change everyone's spin habits because of a statistical fluke.

I've tried that occasionally as well, but the problem is that it usually takes multiple spins to even get an egg at all, and since my gold gyms are pretty much all miles apart, I don't really want to stand around by one gym for half an hour hoping to finally get an egg. So what I usually do is just spin the gym first when I have room for an egg, then if I don't get one, I just move on. I have gotten at least 1 10k egg from a gold gym, that I've noticed, although I've only gotten 3 at all in the last two months.
Agreed, that's stupid. On campus where I work there are 6 gyms within walking distance. I'm gold at three of them and am working on the other three.
If this would give me a lot more purple eggs, though, it would be worth a great deal to know. More research to follow - will report back here when I get it.
