anyone with local raid chats noticing spoofer proliferation?

so we have a local raid chat and it's slowly getting taken over by spoofers. It's gotten to the point were people are calling in "air support" this of course has legitimized it in people who were probably on the borderline anyway and seeing more people (formerly legit) taking up spoofing.

Is this happening in other areas to?

Calls for air support are so common on our public Facebook group. It happens many times every day.

Spoofers are welcome as aid for raids by most people here, if they don't do any of these 3 things:
1: Use dirty tricks at gyms e.g. shaving, hogging gyms by spoofing
2: Promote spoofing, or encourage legit players to spoof.
3: Show off the Pokemon they catch by spoofing. A few spoofers tried to show off their Raikous or Enteis from "overseas" on the Facebook group, but were using wi-fi or mobile data from a local telco.

I'll be honest: I've called for air support on Facebook before at 2 Tyranitar raids.

Some dude recently posted his recent catches with all three beasts. It was kind of like someone bragging about running a 5k race in half a second.

^This. So much of this. Niantic has an incredibly detailed map for Ingress and there's absolutely no reason that information on raid locations and which boss is present is not readily available for PoGo. It's not like having enough or more than enough raiders to complete a raid battle has any tangible effect on whether or not people will actually catch the thing. Particularly in areas like mine with respectable amounts of gyms, but low enough population density where 80%+ of the legendary, T4, and honestly T3 raids go completely unchallenged. And I'm honestly tired of some people getting self righteous and calling map users "cheaters" (using a map and spoofing are not the same thing) when a large portion of us use them specifically to find the raids we're looking for, better to find a raid with an egg level IV range rather than hope for a wild spawn that more than likely is closer to level 1 than level 20 and/or has essentially unusable IVs in the raid-centric meta.

I'm at the point where I barely care that people spoof anymore, they've already made it so every single regional has been added to the "seen" in my dex (which I don't like, but couldn't prevent and can't do anything about now). The only behavior from spoofers I currently find pretty reprehensible/confounding is when they spoof to take gyms, it's so ridiculously easy to gym legitly at this point that it makes them seem astoundingly lazy.

Wow, a downvote for that comment? Either I triggered someone appalled because I'm no longer able to get pissed that people other than myself play "unfairly" in a game where there is essentially no PvP (after the gym rework/nerfing) or a lazy spoofer got offended for calling out a single aspect of their playing habits. Or a wheelchair/bedridden player got offended that I reprimanded the playstyle they were forced to use, in which case, I pity you and feel for your situation, but come on kid.

How dare you take this nonchalant view on spoofers! Send them to the guillotine!

Haha, the voting on comments on this site has been getting less reliable, I've noticed. Seems like more unnecessary/undeserved downvotes on some comments.

when they spoof to take gyms

Gyms. Plural. One person with multiple accounts will spoof and take over dozens of gyms, and immediately take them back if someone tries to take one.

If you are going to spoof and fight gyms:

  • Don't take gyms that are newly turned over.
  • If someone feeds berries while you are fighting, stop fighting and move on to the next gym.
  • Spread out the gyms that you are taking.

These are good gym etiquette guidelines for all players, but especially for spoofers. Don't hog all the gyms in one area. You are just going to draw attention to yourself and make people hate you. You should be trying to keep a low profile.

I totally agree. My main item farming area is a street near my neighborhood with 10+ stops and a little more than half a dozen gyms. It's usually maintained by players on my team, but infrequently is completely flipped by player on other teams, very often when I happen to be farming. However, I never bother to knock their gyms down if it happens while I'm present since I know they likely are just trying to earn their daily coins, there's no reason to get into vindictive turf wars under the current system, if you do you just come of as a bit of an asshole trying to ruin someone else's experience. And in general, I never attack a fully motivated gym, purely because the people on it very likely just placed their mons and I definitely don't want to discourage people from playing, there's a low enough concentration of players in my area that I want as many possible raid partners as I can get. This isn't the previous gym setup where it was laughably easy to knock a gym down, but a painful slog to prestige up an open space, I'm not above driving less than a mile down the road to find a red gym with an open space or two on it.

My chat recently included in its rules that you aren't allowed to call people out for spoofing. This chat was originally used for tracker bots, and everyone adopted it for raid coordination, so that's probably part of the developers/mods are sensitive about it.

I personally think you should just play another Pokemon game if you don't want to walk around, but I think a lot of people have become pretty accepting of it.

Yeah, the memes with a picture of one of the OG Pokemon games and a caption suggesting the lazy spoofers play that instead make me smile, but it's pretty much not worth the effort of getting pissed off at them anymore.

No, our local raid chat has strict rules and doesn't allow spoofers. There are some that got expelled from the group. Yet too many people cheat in our city, but at least they are not socially accepted.

There's one thing to do about spoofers. Report them to Niantic. There's no better evidence that someone admitting that they cheat.

I'd be surprised if Niantic even bothered to lift a finger, spoofers don't effect their bottom line since even they have to pay for additional raid passes. I used to report obvious spoofers in my area back in the early days, but basically all of them are still playing. Grinds my gears that Niantic gives less than two shits about people blatantly cheating, but hasn't made any effort to fix my own main issue of my PoGo+ no longer being compatible since my phone forced an update.

Report does nothing and you wanna hear a better evidenced spoofer? Fsuatl has videos and videos of himself cheating and Niantic does nothing to him and Yes I'm positive they know who he is since they acknowledged the legit youtubers so they know what's going on.

Yeah, that's everyone's perception: Niantic doesn't give a shit about spoofers. I share the feeling, but they do something every so often (slash pokemon). It will be hilarious to hear spoofers' complaints when they get all their legendary slashed (cause they will eventually).

I suppose, but I've met enough people and even had a couple friends who I trust completely that have all had mons slashed after plane rides. Conversely I've seen obvious spoofers never get banned because they're careful about how far they "move" when they spoof-catch yet blatantly spoof-guard gyms, even after dozens of different people report them. Not saying every report should equal a ban, but it would be nice if Niantic put a little more faith in people in comparison to their system's GPS tracker.

Yes, you got a point there. Careful spoofers don't easily get banned even after dozens of reports

Spoofers are not allowed in our group. Once we find out someone cheats we erase him from existence. Similarly like Zeno does in DBS.

I can relate letter by letter to what you said

Up

Depends on your group.

I'm in a couple of groups, one allows spoofers and uses them for air support the other does not allow spoofers at all. The spoofers we have are local, they do not spoof outside the local area to avoid detection from niantic. Although that's probably unnecessary given how little interest niantic in them.

I don'tt see the point of playing the game if you spoof, since getting out of your house is the main seling point of go. If you prefer staying indoors than the main pokemon games are better than go.

Not everyone thinks the same.

You need us. Our attacking roster is what you're looking for.

I have friends who play legitimately and despise that I'm now a spoofer. They as well as their extended friends ask me for help on raids all the time.

The spoofing community don't usually help with legit players unless they are friends. A good spoofer will raid with other well equipped spoofers.

Your roaster is rubbish. Worse than many of the legit players I raid with. Your pokemon don't reach the max breakpoints for any of the raid bosses and yet you have too many redundant pokemon. Such a waste of stardust...
Failed bragging, mate!

Up

Exactly! That's the kind of rubbish you can get for a line up. It does exactly what it needs to do. Caught at almost level 30 and just evolved with very little stardust is used. Now if you'd like to waste dust to power them up further that's up to you, but in a raid you never get whittled down lower than your 3rd in the line up.

Your naming system is horrible. So many superfluous characters.

For "100%", choose a single character like "!" "•" "|" "^" ...
For "97.8%", round it to two characters "98"

100% doesn't need IVs listed. For lower, listing IVs in hexidecimal cuts the characters used in half. "151415" is "FEF"

Then you have much more room to identify movesets, which is more important when selecting your attackers.
