Catching legendary dogs without golden razz
Tested a trick that a youtuber poke ak did where he didn't use any berries besides like 1 or 2 and ended up crit catching 3 raikou with just premier balls.
So I decided to test it out today and for the most part I was happy with the results. I also did a trick of my own at one point just useing nanab berries and it worked out just as well. Ended up 4 out of 5 caught 1 crit catch with nanab cp1874 second one was 1891cp no crit but caught it with a nanab and the other two I caught with the first or second ball cp was trash though 1852 and 1835 no berries.
Not sure if this would help with entei or suicuine as well but I wouldn't see why not. Also when you think about it since gold razzes are harder to get nowadays why waste them on a lower iv legendary when you already have a higher iv one?
Now If you got a method thats been working for you then no need to try something you feel uncomfortable with or maybe it just doesn't suit your play style, I'm just interested if anyone else has tested this out yet and has had good or bad results and maybe it would help some people that are struggling with the gen 2 dogs.

Candy - 3 (or 5 in a double event?) to power up, unless you're rolling in rare candy. It's a balancing act - I spent most of my rare candy maxing 100% zapdos so have more GR to play with for now,and I'd also like to power up 1 Raikou at least to L30, while saving my rare candy for Mewtwo (or Gen3?).
Getting "good" at throwing balls is useful for curveball excellence and greats and should be something that does help but even in that situation you can't say that's the best way when I see people just throwing it straight forward and having the same rng and with you having a 50/50 chance actually getting the curve ball bonus seeing as that's bugged/glitches rn
"even in that situation you can't say that's the best way when I see people just throwing it straight forward and having the same rng"
Just because a player who is throwing worse than you catches the Pokemon doesn't mean it's pure random BS.
Your chances are higher but it doesn't mean it's impossible for you to not get it and for them to, just like how someone who only buys one lottery ticket can still win it and someone who buys a million tickets can still lose.
A single sample means nothing. But if you look over the course of multiple raids, someone who can consistently throw balls that have higher catch multipliers will have more raid bosses caught than someone who doesn't throw so well.
Of course outliers exist, some people will get unlucky and catch less than expected despite throwing well and some will get lucky and catch more than their expected value, but given the amount of people complaining about randomness there's no way they're all the unlucky 0.1%, what's more likely is that people are lying about what throws they're getting.
Ok if your method of useing pinap berrys on legendary mons works go for it if that's your "trick". Just because a certain method works for someone else or said person had better results with it doesn't mean it's gonna work for everyone but maybe it could help some. If you read the last part about people having there own methods or play style we wouldn't be having this argument. Also never said nanab berries were magic so not sure where you got that from.
Your post is written in such a way that you make the reader believe there actually excists a "Nanab berry" trick. My point is that I don't want people to start using Nanab Berries over Golden Razz berries if they want to increase their catch rate.
My statement about Pinap was to make clear that it's all about RNG. There doesn't excist a Pinap trick.
Anyway, no heart feelings towards you as a person. You contribute well to this Q&A section in general.
Understandable I get that a lot I guess when I write it out it works in my head but people reading might look at it another way. But yeah I wasn't trying to make it like "Don't use golden razzes anymore use nanab berries they help more." Clearly that would be a very untrue statement I just had decent rng useing them today never crit caught a legendary before and was interested if anyone else has tried it and had a better time catching legendary dogs that way along with not useing berries in general vs useing gr in this situation but clearly if you want the best catch rate your better off useing golden razz. I definitely think though if you already have a high iv legendary unless you get a higher iv or higher cp I wouldn't waste your golden razz on low iv ones JMO.
I've caught about 2/3 with a good chunk of Pinaps, reg berries when I'm out of Pinaps, and even a Nanab. I will actually use Pinaps before Golden but I tend to run out of Pinaps.
My order if I'm just after candy
Pinap > Golden > Regular berry > Nanab
If I get a high Iv i will obviously use a golden.
We are catching Suicune here in Asia and I have gotten several with regular raz and nabnab. Rarely use pineaps myself, but my son has caught legendaries with them. I am fortunate to have a high success rate with Suicune and regular berries (>50% per raid) and most often I hit a "Great" as Suicune is easy to hit, similar pattern as a Hounddoom. I have used golden raz when I get a very good IV water dog with lesser success. Go figure, maybe it is just the stress of trying to catch a high IV mon.
