When I want to raid and need some other players to help I walk to the gym and see if anyone is waiting there and staring at their phone. If so I ask if they are waiting to raid. If enough are around we spend the pass and raid, if not we dont spend and wait for more to turn up. With the new lobby system we can now check if any spoofers are also waiting to raid so we can team up with them and raid.
Is there any use of the lobby system that is of any use other then teaming up with spoofers?
My suggestions for a usable lobby system:
You're kidding, right? Are you new to this site? Since the day the raid system came out, people have been complaining that there should be a way to see how many people were doing the raid before spending a pass. There has been someone complaining about this on this forum almost daily for months.
You know who this new lobby system was build for? ALL POKEMON GO PLAYERS. This was Niantic ACTUALLY LISTENING to people's complaints.
People said "there should be a way for people see how many people are doing the raid before spending a pass." Niantic did EXACTLY THAT.
And then people like you come on here and post something stupid like this.
For all the dumb things Niantic has done, this is the one time they have done exactly what people wanted. Just because spoofers can take advantage of a system, does not mean Niantic created something to benefit them.

Unless you can do the raid on multiple stories like in the mall example there is a thing people invented called asking. Only spoofers cant see and ask if there are any real life players waiting for more people to raid.
Oh and you can only see the people that have already spent the pass, so if 20 people are standing around waiting to raid but none have already spent it the lobby will show 0 people in the lobby, and none will spend a pass unless they ask the other players they see, so yeah great fix niantic provided.
Then you should have been going around and explaining that to all the people on this site that have been complaining about it for months. But if you had been doing that, people would have called you an asshole.
But if you want to debate your point, stop being a dick. Not all people are social. Not all people want to be embarrassed by asking someone if they "are there for the raid" only to find out they aren't playing pokemon.
Maybe you are old and not familiar with the times, but EVERYONE is on their phones, and most aren't playing pokemon.
True story. I was in Vegas when Zapdos came out. The very first one popped up in Caesar's Palace. I went there and spent my raid pass. Surely a packed casino had enough people, right? 5 people there for the raid. Wasted my raid pass.
Stop looking for reasons to complain.
A small tip: if you want to be taken serious when you are debatting stop using terms like asshole and dick to characterise the ones you are debating. Just shows you have no manners or class and probably lacking a proper education.
In all the time I have been playing I have NEVER asked someone if he was playing that wasn't, and if it did happen, so what. Think its kind of obvious to see if someone is playing or just on his phone. And isn't it one of niantics goals to make this a social game where you go out and meet people?
For me I see almost no benefit of this lobby system other then for helping make groups with spoofers.
For your vegas example: lets say there would have been 10 people waiting to spend their pass if there was enough already in the lobby. Now since none dare spend it cause no ones there nobody looses a pass but also no raid comes together.
The old system did little to prevent spoofers from doing raids. Here's how we do it:
- find gym in high traffic area with most or all the timer left, literally anywhere in the world
- spend pass
- join/leave/rejoin once a minute until there's a full team
Done at least 20 raids this way and only maybe once did it end in a wasted pass. Alternatively there are FB and Discord groups just for flyers to coordinate raids with each other. Spoofers need no help from Niantic. They're already teleporting all over the world catching the beasts outside their region with no consequence. This is really beating a dead horse at this point but again: Niantic. Does. Not. Care. That. People. Spoof.
KESAthans is right, not everyone is going to want to walk up to strangers to ask them if they're playing a game. It's less embarrassing than I just don't need to be judged for doing something I enjoy, but that happens. "YoU PlAy Porkemans? Har, hAr ThAts foR KiDs!" I don't care what you think, I just don't wanna have to listen to it. As for "one of niantics goals to make this a social game where you go out and meet people?"
Niantic is a business that made a game to make them money. That is all. All that social engineering crap is just marketing.
Spoofers dont bother me, like I said in my first post, if I need more people to take down a raid, im fine if some spoofers help me out. Just trying to say that the new lobby system doesn't do anything for me in helping find a group other then with spoofers.
Well to think of it, leeches also benefit. The kind that want others to spend a pass so they can see if enough people are waiting so they dont have to.
