Raiding - Flee then rejoin to heal and maintain damage?

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that you can flee before all your attackers are fainted, heal them and rejoin to preserve your damage. Can someone confirm this, or refute it?

It counts the damage of your final group. You want a full run with your best stuff towards the finish of the battle. So, figure out when you need to leave and heal in order to satisfy that.

Left battle when boss had very low HP (after my 3rd fainted) & rejoined with auto-picked 2nd lineup.

+0 damage balls, even though the 1st 3 in my original lineup dealt massive damage

This has been proven by videos where you can actually "sit" and do nothing in a battle...or go back to the lobby and wait...not a single attack, then when the boss is down to where you think your team can dish out the most, join and you can still get +3 damage...

It's not the boss total HP, it's just what your last team did vs. everyone else's last team...

It's a pretty stupid mechanic.

At first I thought this wasn't a bug and it was intentionally how Niantic wanted it.

They don't want you to go in with 6 Gengars, deal a shit ton of damage in 30 seconds as all 6 of them die, and then reenter with another 6 Gengars deal shit tons of damage, die, and reenter again with 6 Gengars, etc, etc.
They want you to bring in a balanced team of 6 Pokémon that will deal good damage and survive. That promotes a healthy strategy and it's not just high DPS, and that's why the damage score resets.

HOWEVER, they probably didn't realize people would use this to screw over other players to get the damage bonuses unfairly. For instance, if you have a smaller group some people won't reenter the battle and they get all the damage points as others enter with a second team. Often times it's necessary for some to enter with a second team so we have some players who sacrifice their damage score for the good of the whole group (often times unbeknownst to them, because there's another bug where the game doesn't show you pokemon that have reentered the arena. On your second team you often just see yourself and nobody else so others can pretend they went back in with you. But they didn't and they're screwing you over). Yay, thanks Niantic.

This is true for small groups, but for large ones you actually help the group the most by doing huge damage with high DPS mons instead of filling your team with Lugiae and Blisseys or using the "anchor" approach. If I go in with six glass cannons and the raid group is large, I don't feel bad about waiting in the lobby for the final 20 seconds while the boss goes down. I'm actually helping the group more than if I stuck a Blissey at the end.

This is why I mentioned before that Niantic may actually make the lobby sitters lose all their damage bonus...This will then require a strategy of switching super early or for all we know, Niantic will not even let you swap out anymore.

That said, both the above is more unlikely now since the game is made to appeal to more casual players so not being allowed to rejoin means more failed raids...meaning less people playing...less people paying...Generally, my thinking is anything done to make the game HARDER will rarely be done anymore.

I do agree with you and I've mentioned before also that building a team of 6 to last the whole battle IS a bit more strategic and some of us look for any strategy to make the game more "fun" for us...(like trying to clear an old Level 10 Tower...do I bring in my Jolteon for that 1 Gyarados and possibly get dodge gliched or something else to beat the whole stack and bring more tanky mons?)

I agree that endless going at a gym with endless Gengars or Alakazams also is stupid as well trying to get max DPS at all cost. On the other end of the Spectrum is 6 Blisseys and do little damage...

The fun part, like you state is the happy middle ground where you win, but don't get kicked out...

I have used the flee, bring back my surviving mon plus some others (I don't want to spend the time to heal) strategy, and still gotten a personal damage bonus and team damage bonus. So, my impression is that it works, or maybe everyone else had to go out too, and just came back with the default selections.

Today I was in an Articuno raid, for the thirty seconds I was re-selecting my squad, my raid mates were complaining that progress was inadequate. I don't know how many were also re-selecting at that time, but after I came back in we made quick work of the raid boss.

I try to use mons that are between glass cannons and blisseys, but if my raid mates choose a bunch of tanks, I'll have to go out before the raid completes.
