Critical catch?

What's the point of it?

To bypass all flee rates.

Have you ever had that mixed feeling of both happiness and relief when a legendary triggers a critical catch?

yes, it is an amazing abbreviated relief. but what is the point? of course you bypass all flee rates, you caught it! whenever a regular catch happens, you have bypassed flee rates by definition of catching it. I still don't know what it does. I thought it was telling me that I had caught a mon of awesomeness IV, but alas, no. I have seen it quite a few times.

i have had two legendaries do it and it is almost orgasmic.

I have had 2 legendaries with critical as well.
I needed to take up smoking after the second...it was THAT good.

For that alone, it is worth having criticals.

Should we get a bonus for having a critical catch, rather than just to bypass flee rates?

No, we don't...I wish.
I was answering the question of 'should we'.
Didn't mean to mislead you.

What they should do is give you an automatic critical catch if you hit an excellent throw/curve ball. That would add some true skill to the game.

That would be a bit too overpowered IMO. So, instead of adding triggerable critical catches just add small multipliers to Capture Rate for each escaped attempt.
So, like:
Great Throw + Escape = +.025% Capture Rate
Excellent Throw + Escape = +.05% Capture Rate

These would stack as well, so let's say the target was hit twice with ETs and twice with GTs, then there would be a base increase of +.15% Capture Rate for the next attempt. I don't think this would be too overpowered and would just be a good mechanism to add to the game, like a Nice/Great/Excellent streak-bonus, or something.

Sounds nice, but no, while I don't consider an excellent+curve is by any means "easy", I personally still get them far too often to consider that as a fair automatic catch condition, particularly where legends are concerned. Though it would certainly have saved me time on that Lugia I hit with 7 excellent+curves out of 9 balls (caught it on a mere curve, not even nice, go figure).

Maybe an excellent+curve+golden+ultra? My point is that it would be nice to have some throw that isn't dependent on RNG.

each attempt, has a fixed chance of beign a critical catch, no matter what the catch rate of the pokemon is, in regular games, critical catch may fail to catch a pokemon (but that catch has a much higer catch rate) i don't know if a crictical catch can miss in po go, because it only shows that is a critical catch only when you get it, so we can't know if sometimes the game triggered a failed critical catch

It is simple, get rid of flee altogether.

Also, if you get a critical catch on your last pokeball vs. a Legendary you will catch it. The last ball otherwise being a wasted effort.

I have not had a critical catch on a Legendary yet and nIve caught about 35 Legends. But I do know a number of people who crit caught Legends. So it's got a purpose. Just a little more RNG to make things fun.

That just seems to be the only way out of a glitch. How many people waste golden berries on a last throw?

I got a Lugia on a critical catch with my last ball. I think it was a curved Great catch, but that doesn't really matter.

It was nice because I think I only had 6 balls, and a couple were wasted when Lugia double-attacked.

I spun some incense at an airport last week and noticed several attracted Pokémon showed the critical catch animation.
