Alakazam solo
Answers
To be honest with you, this battle is only really close because of in game bugs, connection issues and a lot of luck. My victory wasn't exactly the most skillful play.
Other Tier 3s (Machamp, Gengar, Arcanine, Vaporeon only) you can probably get by with slow connections, dodge bugs, but Alakazam you really need everything to be perfect. Flareon needs to be perfect as well, and Jolteon isn't possible.
- Dodge bug: If you dodge a move that would've taken you out, then don't dodge it. I let my strongest Ttar eat the focus blast alive.
- Server connection issues: I started with a 176S timer. As you can tell, things could well have ended differently for a 174S timer.
- "Luck" on charge move frequency> A couple instances when my gengars were about to be taken out (took 1 more psycho cut), Alakazam decides to cast focus blast so I actually had time for my shadow ball to connect. Not once, but twice. Definitely decisive for this battle.
- When I desperately needed more energy to fire the hydro pump on Gyarados, Alakazam decided to cast focus blast again to charge up for an extra hydro pump in this battle which is probably decisive.
Get all of these perfect, then you can probably solo it. I took 7 tries, each try there was probably something above that gone wrong (173s timer, Dodge bug, One shadow ball away from winning...you get the picture)
Kudos to you! I actually believe that in real life this is the most difficult Alakazam solo of them all.
I seriously doubt that anyone with less Gengars could have made it, and let's be honest, although plenty of high level players have a decent arsenal of tyranitars at this point, who else has 3 level 30 Gengars?
So be proud of yourself, I am absolutely sure you are part of a very exclusive club. I for one could certainly not win that particular solo at this point.
Edit: I am aware that Alakazam's other quick move is confusion, and yes, I believe a confusion/focus blast alakazam will be easier to solo for most players than a psycho cut/focus blast one.
Not just level 30, but level 30 with shadow claw/shadow ball as well :)
Their contribution was obvious- pretty much the 3 together put up 70% of the boss HP. Ttar got taken out within at first 10% then Gyarados mopped up the final 20%.
I think it's still possible with Hex gengars, but the number needed possibly rises to 4 or 5.
I still argue that Confusion/Focus Blast is the hardest one, but one point going against that is Confusion does more damage to the player so more charge moves can be prepared. However Gengar cannot survive more than 4 confusions undodged so I am not sure if the dodge and play Gengar can still have enough DPS.
Now I think about it, you can probably easily do the non focus blast Alakazam Variants provided you have 6 Ttar (hopefully a bit beyond L30 just as safety)
Focus blast PC you will need a similar class setup like mine, but Confusion and Focus Blast i really don't know the answer to that (same with Mewtwo to be honest)
I almost had Alakazam Confusion/Future Sight beat today. 2010 Sc/ShB Gengar, 5 Tyranitars--3198 to 3080. Needed 5% more. 2nd try needed 10% more Alakazam 2320 PC/ShB, sc/ShB Gengar and 4 Tyranitars. This time my wife didn't complain about waiting for me to solo try and then helping me (luckily my birthday). Then I tried Machamp solo again...Heavy Slam hits way too hard, just did all Alakazam and Espeon Glass then level 35 DT/H Dragonite. Didn't try it twice and she helped me beat it.
I think that's the picture for most of us Level 35+ who try to solo it. You really need everything to go right in your favor to solo it.
I only really have an arsenal of level 30 mons, and I suspect if I was a level 40, I would have at 6 maxed (or L36+) Ttars to attack with, which could well be what you need to gain that extra 5%.
For me I mustered the best balance between DPS (Gengar, I only had 3), Survivability but below average DPS (Gyarados), and the good DPS guy (tyranitar, but I had to put him in front so he doesn't get surprised focus blasted when he just swaps in)...AND also have everything go in my favour, then and only then can I win.
I really wished they fix dodge bug and time compensation for connection problems.
