Summer 2017 The Great Stardust Drought

The Summer of 2017 is known for several Niantic Failures from the terrible gym overhaul to the sad turn out in Chicago and even the worst shop deal known in history on the 1 year anniversary but all of this doesn't compare to this Stardust Drought we are currently in.

Many of us got with our family, friends and neighbors and hit every legendary raid "and our wallets.. :(" to catch ourselves the best Legendary pokemon of them all and many of us are sitting on perfect if not high IV mons... that are just sitting at lvl 20 because of this dreadful stardust drought.

How as this Stardust Drought affected you? Has anyone heard from Niantic of any changes coming soon?

It is not a "startdust drought".
It is out there for the catching.

As soon as it was announced that they were redoing gyms I stopped spending stardust on defenders, and started to hoard. I finally cleared a million, after always being broke. Since then I've tried to stay above 1 mil, while making five Golems, a good Machamp (just one), a second Espeon, and one Articuno. I've resisted powering up a Lugia, Moltres, or Zapdos, even though I have good level 20's of these. Just last night I powered up two more Ttars and dropped back to 1 mil again.

Now I have stardust remorse - got sucked into the Mewtwo hype and have five Ttars, while I think even three good Ttars is enough.

Looking ahead to gen 3, and some interesting legendaries, I see a need for a lot of stardust that is now really hard to come by.

All of them have to contact niantic and write that we need dust. I did it yesterday and they answeres that they are working for this.

The gym overhaul was one of the best things that's happened to this game. Most of the spoofers are gone, only some multi accounts left. I started playing again now that I don't have to beat 10 Blisseys on every gym.

As for stardust, it would be nice if you got some as raid rewards. Or maybe replace incense with stardust multiplier for 30 mins. Nobody uses incense anyway.

Speak for yourself, some of us in rural locations where nothing spawns (like at my house) depend on it! In fact, incense and a few incubators are the only items I have recently been spending gold on.

But they could certainly add a lucky stardust egg, which doubles dust instead of XP for 30 minutes (or both, which would be great).

Since the gym change I have gotten way better at collecting star dust and get between 10k-15k a day. Actually this is probably from using a go+.

Agree! Love the Plus I got in July for easy catching of evolution mon and dust. Best is when I use incense, ride my bike and use the Plus (mounted on the handle bar, next to my phone) to catch the frequent spawns.

It hasn't affected me, I never had much dust (tend to power up as I go). Right before the gym overhaul I was finally collecting from 8 - 10 gyms a day, but not long enough to build up a reserve. But my best mon, including 4 d'nites, are maxed out to 38.5.

I am actually glad that you still have to grind (catch, hatch) to get dust. I don't think it's fair that noobs and toddlers along for the ride (or raid) have more tyranitar than I have (2) and have legendaries I can't get.

If everyone were able to max out their multiple raid mon it would be game over for the rest of us!

"have more tyranitar than I have (2) and have legendaries I can't get."

Are you looking in my storage? My exact situation. 2 T'Tar that I have walked more than 800K, with IT/FB moves to boot, and not a single legendary.....I've been to more than 40 raids tier 4 or 5 and been the only person in sight at EVERY SINGLE ONE! I don't even bother anymore.

I hope there will be enough players for t4 one day, have given up on t5. But it seems those who can do them are getting tired of it.

I bet our Tyranitar mean a lot more to us than their raid trophies ever will ;)

I just spoke to the CEO of Niantic via Skpe. He said "a dust monsoon is incoming. Save your candy"

Barrelrider13: Let me make this straight. I have no stardust. I tend to power up as I collect since the new raid system. I have no problem with it. I have ideal level 30 mons that is all I need for every battle situation. I haven't powered up any legendary yet. I probably won't. Well may be Mewtwo. Currently I am working on my 6 level 30 Tyranitars. I have 3 done, 3 to go, for Mewtwo. I am sure I will get there in time. I do not think I actually need more than 3 level 30 tyranitar's, which I already have. I don't see any reason to complain about stardust. Yes, it is valuable, but that makes it fun. I can collect about 8-10K stardust a day without thinking. I feel it is enough for me at the moment. If you study the critical break points of every moveset, rarely you need anything higher than level 30. That saves a lot of dust. I say you must have a lot of fully powered mons, there lies your problem.

New gym system is the best that is happened to the game. It brought new players, made gym volatile, more diversity. I remember I rarely collected more that 20-30 coins as gym bonus. If I average, my monthly average was probably 10 a day, that is 300 coins a month. Now I almost get 50 every day, say my average is probably 40 a day over a month, that is 1200 coins a month. Who is complaining? So I am doing may be 4 times better than previous gym system. Why would I complain?

I say your problems are as follows:
1. Live in a semi-rural area, not too many players or spawn points, pokestop, gym etc;
2. Not enough planning on how to invest in stardust or how to strategically power up Pokemon;
3. Lack of money to spend in game;
4. Lack of respect to others and life in general

I say that's about sums it, don't you think?

Niantic did not fail. You fail yourself. The gym update is the best as spoofers numbers have decreased. Just get your fat ass out there and catch those pokemons.

Spending more time for raids = less time for grinding.

If you want more dust redirect your expenses:
-Raid Pass
+Incubators
-time raiding
+time catching (grinding dust)

If you want (your pokemon) to be strong you have to work hard. And that's right.
