Countering Focusblast Mewtwo

I have a lvl 32.5 Gary with DT/DP. Should I TM it to B/C? I don't have a 6 mon squad for Focusblast Mewtwo and I'm thinking this will help me out. Thoughts?

Remember that TTars are still useful. The will get one-shotted, but they still do damage as long (short) as they last. I feel that there is probably too much focus on getting a strong 6-mon TTar-less lineup for Mewtwo.

Use ChargeTM First.
Anything is BETTER than DP.
If you get Crunch, proceed and use fastTM to get Bite. Else, leave It with DT/O or HP.
Sorry Bad english XD

Before you do, consider that double bug Scizor and Pinsir do more damage than a double dark Gary against a focus blast Mewtwo, according to the stuff I've been reading. (If you have those..)

On Gengar, Focus Blast is the easiest move to dodge. When he starts laughing, you know it's coming.

Does Alakazam have a similar "tell"? If so, then it's likely that Mewtwo will as well.

I lucked out and fought a FB Alakazam and FB Gengar yesterday, Gengar was easy enough to dodge when the laugh came. Alakazam... good luck putting trust in such a tell. In my opinion, just die quick versus Mewtwo Focus Blast (Tyranitars are gone fast) Come back with Dragonite and Garys...also is that your only Gyarados? I wouldn't mess with a legacy move, nobody will have a great answer for FB--just do better than they do

If you powered up any of your Legendarys they will be usefull to. I ran simulations with Articuno, Gary, Zapados, and Moltres and they are pretty tied except Articuno. T-Tar dies way to fast for him to be ranked with the Legendary birds and remember that both Moltres and zapados have incredibly high attack stats.

I'll just go with 6 Dragonites I guess.

Confusion is the problem. In my opinion nothing survives Confusion/Focus Blast...not even Dragonite.****Correction Lugia sky Attack, max that out if you know in advance C/FB

i'd keep that gary the way it is.
all we talk about is just based on cleverness and
pretty smart mathematical representations of the battles which still are about to come.
the main power in my two combatgroups will come from either ttar or dragonite.
after the first raids i will seen if, depending on my fellow raiders as well as on mewtwo's movesets, i can put one or two glass cannons in front to get some extra damage-balls.
but thats weeks ahead.
by now its ttar and dragonite i care about.

Murkrow is your solution.
Dark/Flying. Lol

Surviving Confusion/FB, Murkrow and Xatu do better than most. I looked at it yesterday, remembered again today--Vaporeon holds up against C/FB. We have time to think and build for contingencies--other folks would do pretty darn good with a few simple vapes

Thanks for all the input. I do have another Gary that is double dark, and one DT/O Dragonite. No usable pinser or scizor tho. I do have 3 ttar's, I just assumed they wouldn't really be useful. Im considering powering up my 98%zapdos, but then I'd be out of stardust.

I'm here learning along with all the questioners, but a Hydropump 2700cp Vaporeon is a quality player against Psychocut/Focus Blast. It does relatively good against Confusion/FB. I would first look there before maxing a Zapdos for this one hypothetical matchup

That'd be such a relief, I have a solid squad in the 2600 range I could easily power up.

Keep the double dark Gary and DT/O you already have, but if you need some filler spots you can count on Vaporeon--regardless if it has Confusion/FB or Psychocut/FB.

Never TM away a legacy move, unless it's useless as Stone Edge Machamp.

This will become a more and more important discussion with how Exclusive raids will work...

If you get "unlucky" and your Mewtwo raid invitation is to a Confusion/Focus Blast one, since you won't be possibly getting another invite or a ton of invites, you may have no choice but to fight this one...

Since Focus Blast limits Ttar's usefulness, trainers will most likely all get knocked out and you will need to bring in Team 2 (or Team 3 possibly). Confusion will hit like a truck and 4 Shot high level Gengars I think...

Here's a good discussion on Mewtwo on SR...
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/6vbs0j/more_easily_read_relative_strength_mewtwo_counter/

Also, since Shadow Ball comes out often and hits like a truck too, a lot of people will be constantly knocked out...losing their damage bonuses...

Good to plan/think and faint/keep knocked out your non-usable attackers so your team 2 will be what you want to last the rest of the battle...
