Am I in the minority thinking that making regional exclusives in other places cheapens the game/experience?
I suppose completing the dex was never a big deal to me and I'm fine with not getting everything (in PoGo or life really...). I started playing mostly to help my kids and wife deal with the old level 10 towers in the area...All that's gone of course and we are left with a collecting mon game now.
That said, is anyone else feeling like catching a regional outside of their intended area cheapening the game or experience? You visit Japan, get a digital souvenir of Farfetch with the location of Tokyo, Japan that you went there and caught.
The whole Kangaskhan from Anaheim, CA, United States seems "cheap" to me and just seems like a short cut.
Again, this is not a knock to anyone or with any event or people who went, etc...but the whole point of these were to travel to various areas and catch unique Pokemon from that area...Sorta like how some Pokemon were from various regions only, etc...
Esp since none of these regionals were critical in the battle meta anyways.
I suppose I've always like my games hard/challenging to begin with.
Again, this is not meant to insult anyone and if people want to go close by to catch stuff not in their area and enjoy it, that's good for them. But I don't think it'd make me happier in my play to catch stuff that was only supposed to be in certain countries/areas.
Just curious if I'm the only one...

I agree with you but I’m not upset or bothered by it. Since launch I’ve always wanted this to be more of a challenge that I’d have to really go out of my way to find certain types or particular species. I didn’t want to be downtown a couple of blocks away from a river and catching water types. I’d prefer it if I had to be near a body of water like a walking path beside the river to see them.
Earlier I was trying to do what should have been easy, beat a Moltres. A dad (L34 and son L32) were error frozen b/c they recently had a relative catching Kang for them. I seriously don't care, just think it is dumb squared. My brother lives near Sweden/Finland border...please, no Mr. Mime for me. I do empathize when people type on the internet "visiting USA, can't find Tauros anywhere"---more than just travel is involved, one shouldn't need an expedition to find a cartoon to store on your phone.
BTW, we beat that Moltres (I didn't care, but someone in our original group got their 1st an 1863) a rented tour bus with 50 raiders (also really dumb) appeared with 5 min left on countdown...I network errored the first 35 sec. I was just there for the berries, got 8 of them to double my total!
Personally I don't mind, I think it makes events like this one more special. I actually went to Anaheim not so much to catch exclusives but to have fun. I think people are missing out on all the new friends and endless amount of Pokemon conversations you can have with Pokemon events like this. If anything I wish there more events like this around in different places so people can experience the fun and excitement everyone had in Anaheim.
Niantic has already cheapened the value of regionals, long before the current outbreak of Kangaroos in the West. Take Tauros for example, they are now so hard to find in USA that foreign visitors have little chance to catch one. I am an American living in Thailand and brought my son to USA for 3 weeks and we had high hopes of catching a Bull. Did not see a single one, let alone catch it. I reviewed all the local user groups / Pokesites (I was in Northeast) and they all said "not likely" / good luck / we have hundreds of Tauros so have not even noticed them (or it seems their rarity). Friends in Australia / NZ say the same of Kangaskan (ie same as a Pidgey to them). Thus, if the locals get no value from their regional and tourists can't get them, then why even have them. In SE Asia (tropic zone) we have Corsola as a "regional" and we regard it as a "trash fish" not worth catching.
If Niantic would put them in eggs globally or locally (I don't know if they are available in their region ... did not hatch a Tauros either in USA) then at least hardcore egg hatchers would have a chance .. I have hatched at least 3-4 (and more) of everything else in eggs. Europeans are probably sick of Monsieur Mime as well. If Niantic were to rotate them it would be ironic that as an American I would have to go to EU or North Asia to get a Tauros! I should be able to get one when I go home each year. Ya would think!!!
Thanks to everyone for sharing...
Again, I'm not against anyone else getting these from an event...That's fine and I think people like to complete their dex.
I'm leaning towards actually NOT catching them if an event rolls around just to keep it regional/more "special" for me...
It does suck majorly that if you visit the USA for a week, and a Tauros never spawns...They should make them more common in airports and tourist areas.
