RE: Piloswine

Anyone used Piloswine with Ice Shard/Stone Edge against Zapdos? I caught a L29 one last night and was just curious if it would be useful or not. [edited to change blizzard to ice shard]

I USED MINE. IT WAS VERY SERVICEFUL.

I use it, but I like Avalanche, which is what I hope you meant since it can't get blizzard.

Granted against Zapados you are getting 2* SE on SE vs 1 SE & 1 Stab. But generally speaking Avalanche at 90 power for 50 energy is one of the best moves in game, so even against the best match up of Zapados I'm willing to bet it comes out ahead

I have one with Ice Shard/Avalanche and this second one with Ice Shard/Stone Edge. I thought it might be useful because of the rock charge move.

rock is not SE against electric, zapdos receives 1xSE damage from both, only difference is that piloswine benefits from STAB with avalance, but not with stone edge

Okay. Was just wondering because everyone is using Golems with double rock movesets to battle Zapdos.

right, golem however has a rock typing, so its stone edge comes with STAB. this is not to say that your piloswine is useless, its just less useful than a golem. depending on the IV and the amount of your charge TMs you may want to consider rerolling that move, but only if you feel like it, since piloswine is not exactly a universal top tier mon

Both rock and ice are SE against Zapdos (because of flying typing), however, Golem has a higher attack (211) stat than Piloswine (181) and Rock attacks get STAB from Golem, but not from piloswine, all in all (IS/A) Piloswine is about 17% less effective than RT/SE Golem, and IS/A Piloswine is about 36% less efectuve than the same golem.

When I see claims like yours, it makes me wonder how flawed the popular battle simulators are.

I'm not seeing how an IS/A or PS/A Pilo is going to do worse dps than a Stone Edge Golem on average.

I evolved a L30 Piloswine with Ice Shard and Stone Edge. I'm using it against Zapdos, but I'm certainly not TMing it for this one niche use. Stone Edge will suffice.
