Golem Squad, maxing utility

I have a a team of 5 Golem I grew to deal with legendary birds, with double rock moves and pushed to levels that max damage vs Moltres.

For Zapdos I would like to improve my team either bringing a 6th Golem to lv 30 (96% 15hp 14 14)
Or bringing one of the Golem to lv 37.5 (+1 damage per Rock Throw vs Zap2)

Which option would you choose?
6th Lv 30
Or
2nd lv 37.5

Depends on what your current 6th option is I guess.

Personally I have three double rock Golems at L30. They all have poor IV's since they were all evolved from L30 Geodudes found in the wild. I do have high IV Golems at L20, but I haven't really been able to justify the stardust cost yet. Granted, Golems are great, but I'm really not sure I need more than 3 of them, even if none of my current Golems are stellar. But they mostly get the job done!

If you have a good Dragonite or Tyranitar for a sixth pokemon, you might want to save your stardust. Golems aren't too useful outside of legendary raids, and dust is hard to come by.
On a more serious note, did you really name a golem after James Hetfield?

Yes LOL XD one of the few if not only male Golem of mine \,,/
I have only the first 3 days to catch as many Zapdos as possible (8/11 I'm going to a very small town), so I aim to max damage and balls!

It's about 40 damage difference
(Level 30 vs level 37.5)
Which is about 0.328 % of 12498 (Zapdos' boss hp)

for 103k dust
unless you are in a team all doing the same thing. there is only so much one person should be expected to carry.

you have more than enough rock power there. golems a useless turd outside of bird raids. id rather take that 75k and make it rain on a b/c ttar for mewtwo.

You do that bruh. My Golems brought me a lot of birds. By the time Mewtwo is out I'll have plenty of dust for Tyranitars. I'm a poke day trader not a mutual fund investor.

Who the hell is down voting this guy? It's actually very solid advice. Golem aren't too usefull besides the legendary birds.

OT: Neither one, you are guaranteed +3 damage with that line up! However, if I had to choose one rationally, solely for Zapdos, I would go for a 6th Golem to level 30.

You mean Golems aren't useful in gyms? Buahahaha. What mons are?? Gyms are easy as fuck to take down even with pidgeots. Gym system is a joke. So raiding mons are what's left in the meta. And Golem is the king right now. That's how much this game has gone downhill.

I kind of lean toward GS1's thinking on this. I now have no interest in gyms outside of raids and throwing my Mon in when there are openings. There's no point in trying to build a team of ace defenders, which is where all my stardust used to go. I can't use my rag-tag team of prestigers — whom I was much more fond of than my high-CP defenders — for anything either (except maybe to defend gyms, haha), so my main source of fun is trying to have the best squad for the raid du jour. That's the birds at the moment.

I'm thinking about future stuff, sure, but I'm also concentrating on having a good team for these raids. (It helps that I I have a lot of Geodude candy and Golems.)

Very true, but. I think James's argument is that 5 of the OP's current golems may warrant enough of a reason not to invest, as there are ther pokemon out there that fulfill the role, albeit maybe not as effectively

What has the gym scene to do with anything written above?

I agree; the OP has five lv30+ golems and we don't know their Tyranitar situation. Sure, the birds are the hottest thing at the moment, but what happens when gen 3 releases, when mewtwo teleasss, and other things release? Will powering up a 6th golem be worth it when the OP may already have a B/SE Tyranitar?

I think they were referring to the ways players can interact with Pokémon (obtaining/powering up, gyms, raids), but I believe the birds are a temporary hype, relative to the next couple of months. I too, like you, think it would be wise to hold off on stardust. We also don't know how often the OP plays and how accessible stardust is for them, within the constraints of how often they can afford to play Go.

Due to new time constraints, I can't afford to play as often, and I too would much rather hold off on my stardust than invest in a 6th golem

Thanks for the answer, I'm the OP
I currently play a lot, lev 38 (mostly for raids with new friends).
I have 3 B/SE Tyranitar lv 33, 29, 28.5 and 1 B/C lv29

Yeah stardust is scarce, but for me Zapdos is a 3 days challenge. I'm currently in a small city, few players, I'm the most prepared one, and I need to contribute amas to defeat amas Zapdos in the next 3 days. After these 3 days I'm going to a way smaller town and will not play.
All in!

For the chronicle I went for the 6th Golem and we did an awesome Zapdos Day1!
