Just fought a Moltres, all 6 pokemon fainted, and clicked rejoin battle as soon as possible. The game gave me an error and no chance to catch Moltres (it appears that Moltres was beaten very close to when my pokemon fainted).
Is there any way to get around this other than "don't dodge", "dodge more", or "use different pokemon"?
It really looks like a bug, because after the error I can sit in the lobby still, wait, and get an error when the raid battle starts.
As long as others are still trying to catch, which keeps the instance alive, you should be able to restart the app, rejoin and catch it.
If the boss is dead, and the instance is still alive, you can rejoin, and you will get your rewards, and then be able to catch it.
Most times it requires that you completely restart the app.
Once, I even had to restart my device and then could join - but I had a friend wait to catch the boss until I was in again.
FYI, make sure you stay pretty close beneath the gym. Much earlier it was reported you could engage in the lobby, then walk off a little bit to fight. I have done that a few times and I've had my fair share of errors...Yesterday I saw a Scyther at a pokestop at a park, decided to get it and battle a Magmar for my wife while there for xp and 2 or 3 RC (and recheck solo raiding experience). Major error while I tried to fight too far away from gym, went back and was fine
If you lose all six pokemon, you can heal and rejoin the fight. But you try to rejoin as the boss is dieing, you will return to the fight screen and the game will freeze. If the boss is close to defeated and there are enough people still attacking, you can just wait on the rejoin screen for the fight to end. About 10s after everyone else gets the "You Win" message and rewards, your rejoin screen will close and you will get your rewards.
If your game crashes at any point during the fight (including I think during the initial team picking countdown at the beginning), you can restart, click on the gym, don't do anything, and after a few seconds it should take you back to your raid group. If your group has already finished the fight, this will instead bring up the "You Win" message and give you your rewards.
As long as there is time remaining with the raid boss still controlling the gym, you can still reenter and get your rewards. If you start a raid close to the end of the raid timer, then you can lose out on rewards if your game crashes or gets any errors.
As long as time is still remaining on the raid, you can even run from the catch screen and come back to it. I've seen people playing on a tethered tablet having trouble catching, run, sign in on a phone, reenter the gym, and return perfectly fine to the catch screen.
If the moltres is almost dead or will be for sure its best not to rejoin but wait in the lobby rather. If you rejoin with a 2nd set of 6 mons then your damage bonus resets to 0 and the likelihood of you getting better rewards decreases. I only rejoin if Im in a small group that wouldnt beat the moltres if I did not rejoin. Of the times Ive rejoined Ive noticed a huge decrease in the rewards, usually I just get GR and revives.
