Bug Pokemon worth it for Legendaries?

I was looking over the legendary raid bosses and some of the counters and was surprised to see that Pinsir is a good counter against Mew and Mewtwo. I think these two will be some of the more difficult legendary raids.

Is it worth powering up and using TM's on a 91% IV Pinsir to start preparing for the psychic legendaries? At this point TM's are pretty easy to acquire. How effective are bug Pokemon currently in this meta?

At this point I don't even know what the end game is supposed to be in this game. Is it reaching level 40? Is it gym control? Is it catching them all?

Even if you are going to attack with pidgey you'll probably defeat the legendary, as quantity is more important than quality these days.

If you are preparing for legendaries and you enjoy having a variaty in line ups, you should do it. However, I bet that dragonite is gonna do just as good against legendaries as pinsir.

Given the ever-changing rules, I'd say it seems more like an activity than a game... unless we're talking about a game like Calvinball (which has no endgame).

From http://calvinandhobbes.wikia.com/wiki/Calvinball :

Calvinball is a game invented by Calvin and Hobbes in which you make the rules up as you go along. Rules cannot be used twice (except for the rule that rules cannot be used twice). No Calvinball game is like another. [...] For example, in one game of Calvinball, the goal was to capture your opponent's flag, whereas in a different game of Calvinball, the goal was to score points by hitting badminton shuttlecocks against trees using a croquet mallet.

Well I have decided to go for Scizor, I like it more. But I think that yes, bug mon will be very useful for those coming raids, maybe they don't worth the full investment but having 1 or 2 from level 30-35 will defintely help a lot. As long with Tyranitar and Golem at this point I find them the next option to power up because the game is almost all legendaries and raids at this point.

Plus Scizor resists psychic.

But yeah I guess op but now a days we mostly are only rewarded for powering up stuff for raids which only pays off if you solo tier 3 raids or have a weak group in your area. Outside of that it's a few extra damage balls.

I would consider Pinsir less than Scizor but both way less than a Tyranitar for MewTwo. And dust costs for all these mons are the same.

Totally agree with you, but I already have 2 maxed out Tyranitar and I think it is nice to have some diversity in your team if you already have one or multiple copies of the best "counter". I have not really think about having a third Tyranitar despite I have two 96%IV waiting in case someday I decide to power them up.

Plus Scizor is a very cool mon :D

See I agree with you about variety and think it's much more fun to have a wide range of different pokemon rather than just multiple tyranitars, dragonites, and vaporeons. I would love a bug Pinsir but you guys make great points about Scizor and now I'm on the fence a bit lol.

Well I agree with both of you and I have a completely Ms ed bug moves Scizor. It's a ton of fun to use due to the speed of that moveset too. But I understand that if I had a 6th Tyranitar I could outperform it. I like to use some fun mons too. However for MewTwo I'm a little worried about the chances we may have the way some of these trainers are. But at least they're getting better.

Edit to add: One day Celebi will be out too. She will have a double weakness to bug and Scizor will resist her psychic attacks and double resist her grass attacks (if she gets some before release). If her moves don't change he resists her listed normal and fairy attacks. So that really should help you out OP.

Yeah you make great points with Scizor. I may end up taking my Pinsir and Scizor boto to level 30 and using TM's on them to have double bug moves.

I feel like being on a boat without clear direction, aimlessly sailing on the sea. I miss the old days where the gym scene made sense and it actually made a difference having quality Pokemon.

Preach man, preach. Today I've gotten max balls allowed for damage at every raid. Brought full supreme counters. Earned a few Moltres for my raidmates but none for myself yet. Sigh. And what else is there to do with my super strong but directionless team of hell monsters now?

I really don't know man, I really don't. Preach is what will keep me going on my aimless boat full of useless monsters I have spend my resources valuable time on.

Don't know where it goes
But it's only me, and I walk alone

Today I used my old attackers to take down a bayleef boss...a bayleef. Raid meta ftw.

Pinsir has the benefit of being a nesting species, and can be battle-ready fresh from being caught. There's going to be better options for sure, but it might be worth picking up a few high level ones to be used as cannon fodder for some of the easier raids (e.g. when you have a high number of players), or as a second wave when you have to revive mid-raid, then just dispose of them afterwards, saving revives/potions.

Assuming they have bug moves of course. Don't think folks would be too impressed with a fighting one.

I'd agree with this. you will probably have more than one slot left for for scizor/pinsir and its way more easier and cheaper to catch a fresh pinsir with high CP, good moves and decent IV. I have 1 decent scizor right now. The next slot has 2 options;
1. Double TM my other and power up it to a cost of maybe ~70k dust + grinding a Schyter nest.
2. Catch a decent high CP pinsir in my local nest

i powered a scizor and used it against alakazam solo, it didn't cut it (tyrantar was much better). But it might be useful to have diversity in case of a mewtwo with focus blast and should be a beast against celebi.

For diversity, yes. Practicality, I wouldn't. Same old story... Tyranitar takes home the cake. Stat wise and moveset wise, I'd rather spend my resources on these Pokémons. I'm with you on the diversity issue and cool looking stuff pkus he was my favorite when he was released ideology but you also have to consider that the resources used to power up these Pokémon except for their respective candies are the same.
