Offense/Defense moves
I heard defense moves are not important anymore for current gym system, is that true and if so why?
Also, I have an iv91 snorlex with zen headbutt and hyper beam, should I use a fast TM to get Lick instead if the defense moves are not important anymore?

1) You don't get coins until your mon is kicked out.
2) The CP decay makes it absurdly easy to defeat even the best defenders after a few hours
I try to mix it up if 2 gyms are next to each other, putting a good defender in one and a weak defender in the other in the hope they don't get taken out at the same time. I am not sure how effective it is. You are better off using your resources on attackers currently.
For the most part, you want your Pokemon to get kicked out, so defense doesn't matter.
But unlike the others, I think a TM on Snorlax could be in order. Snorlax has a good attack stat and with the gyms the way they are, Snorlax can be very potion efficient taking gyms down. All you would really need is him and someone to handle Blissey.
I have a 2984 Snorlax that I stopped powering up because of the 10x CP decay after you go over 3000cp. He has ZH and BS and I had him in a gym for over 20 days. I stop by every day and feed him because I'm focusing to get that gym to Gold and i'll stop feeding him and move him to another gym wants i'm close.
Depends what your goals are I think having a snorlax at that CP and with those Defensive moves keep other players from attacking him.
1) Under the previous gym system, you wanted your defenders to get stuck in stagnant gyms. Now you want your defenders to eventually get kicked out so you can collect their coins.
There are still some situations where good defenders can be important. The main reasons that come to mind:
- To deter attackers from taking down multiple gyms you are in during the same day.
- To take over and secure a gym before a raid for the gym control bonus.
- To build up your badge XP for a gym.
Additionally, if there is a gym nearby, you might still want to use a 3,000+ CP defender to intentionally get the faster motivation decay allowing you to return periodically and spend your berries for stardust.
2) Zen Headbutt/Hyper Beam is already 96% of the damage output of Lick/HB.

I've never really thought Snorlax was a very good attacker. Admittedly I haven't tried using a Lick Snorlax against a Psychic type since the super-effective boost.
Its advantage has always reportedly been as a generalist using Lick to quickly charge its strong STAB moves. The reduction of STAB and increase of type advantages makes STAB generalists a little weaker and specialists with a type advantage a little stronger.
Additionally, with the current gym system, I greatly favor two and three bar charge moves more than ever before. As defenders lose motivation, moves like Hydro Pump, Solar Beam, and Hyper Beam quickly become overkill. Moves like Aqua Tail and Seed Bomb are significantly more time and damage efficient at taking out weakened and demotivated pokemon. There is not enough of a difference in damage output from the one-bar moves against full motivation defenders, so the question just becomes about raid bosses. A one bar move can provide a lot of damage, but a missed dodge can also lose a lot of energy and time.
