So, Poliwrath can really get Dynamic Punch, right?

I'm beginning to think that the whole PoGo community may be pulling some pranks on me and fooling me to believe that Poliwrath can get Dynamic Punch.

11 Poliwraths in and none of them has Dynamic Punch. I have Fast TMs at the ready if one with Bubble + Dynamic Punch shows up but to no avail.

0.67^11 = 1.12% RNGesus loves me so much.

Just a small question, have you done multiple of them during the same moment or the same day? I know it may seem stupid because RNG is RNG, but for me it has worked many times like this in the past. If I evolve multiple copies of a mon I really want I keep getting every single time the bad moves and even the same moves multiple times in a row. For example getting like 7/8 times in a row a Jolteon when I wanted a Vaporeon, getting multiple times in a row a Gengar without 2 ghost moves, same with Sandlash with 2 ground moves or Arcanine with FF/FB, and all of them because evolving on the same moment/day.

When I have been patience and evolve them on different days I have always get what I wanted/needed on the first or second try.

I know it is just probably luck/RNG, but when I see the pattern repeated for me so many times since the game started I just think, it could not hurt me to keep doing this way. So why don't you just try? Leave at least one day from evolution to evolution and don't do them at the same time of the day. Maybe your luck changes. GL

for the record, I evolved 3 eevees in a row.

Got 1 flareon, 1 jolteon and 1 vaporeon.

Yesterday I evolved 3 vaporeons in a row.

RNG!

I think you are right about clock influencing probabilities of outcome. Too many folks here think RNG means even distribution of probabilities, but we have no evidence of that.

Up

RNG is supposed to be about even distribution, but only over a huge sample size. I am aware that 11 is not a big sample size, so I can't really expect truly uniform distribution. But even then it still sucks that the 1.12% bites my ass.

What IV were the Poliwhirls? The higher the IV percentage, the less likely it is to get good moves. DP is listed as an A move, so it definitely will avoid getting that quite often if IV's are above 80% or something like that.
It's the same happening for Sentrets. If you catch 10 no-good ones and 10 good IV ones, and evolve them, you'll likely end up with A movesets for 8 out of the 10 no good ones, but less than optimal or even crappiest movesets for the good IV ones.

I truly doubt there's an actual cause/effect relationship between a pokemon's IVs and gamepress's rankings.

Up

Down

Indeed. There almost certainly isn't such a relationsship.

With most mons there are 6 possible moveset combinations. Usually one combination is the best, maybe 1 or 2 others are good and then the rest are more or less trash. That means that there is a very good chance to get a bad moveset on ANY mon you evolve. But we don't really care that much when powering up something random. We care when we evolve our prize mons and then it hurts extra bad when they get a bad moveset. On the other hand, we tend to forget all the times that are mons get good movesets. It's a purely cognitive phenomenon. Human beings looks for patterns where there are none. That is how our brains funtions.

Then how come the best movesets are 8 out of 10 times chosen for the not useful mons of the same species, while the top IV mons (not even 100% IV but more like anywhere between 80% - 91%) get not necessarily bad moveset but not the best unless you're really lucky? Catch 10 low IV Sentret and 10 Sentret appraised with high IVs and evolve them all. Then see the ratio in both groups. How many have gained Quick Attack + Hyper Beam from each group? Isn't it unusual to get QA/HB on many low IVs but from the high IVs to get anything but that combination unless you're really lucky?

Up

Down

I've evolved 37 Sentrets in 2 separate mass evolutions (mostly >82% IV), only 1 Furret had QA/HB.

Up

Down

I have yet to have found a QA/HB furret that's not something between dirt and around 70%. But whenever I find ones with low stats, chances are most will be QA/HB. Recently evolved a Wonder one and got SP/BB on it but did not tag it, then evolved a 30-40% Furret and got QA/Dig, this would be my 2nd QA/Dig low IV Furret ever. I'll keep tagging them and see how many at what percentage get the QA/HB and how many get anything but that.

Gamepress ranked them based on how well they perform. But what I'm saying is, every time I catch low IV mons, they get the best moveset once evolved. But if I catch high IV ones, I feel lucky if they get the best moveset, even if I have just as many as I have low IV ones of the same species in some cases. Even with Raticates. I have evolved many Rattatas. The only ones to get QA/HB (or even QA/HF for that matter, but rarely, same as with QA/Dig) were the low IV ones. The high IV ones got QA/dig, all of them, for whatever reason. Owned 47 Raticates so far and 139 Rattatas. From now on, I'll screenshot Sentrets/Rattatas before and after evolution with their stats and numbered nicknames for further research.

My very first Machamp ever with 96% iV got C/DP.
Second Machamp 84% got BP/HS
Third Machamp 51% got BP/HS

Pretty much blows a hole in this terrible iv theory right?

Up

No, because I never said it's impossible to get best moveset for high IV. I said if you have more of the same pokemon, split into 2 equal groups (very low IVs & IVs that are given maximum appraisal) the ones with low IVs have higher chances to get the best movesets. Been testing this with Furrets and Raticates, of which there's plenty to capture and test with, and of which you can get stuff that has max appraisal (note: not necessarily 100% IVs but 15 in at least one stat and IV between 80 and 100).

I literally just evoled a Poliwrath, 96% before I saw this post and got B/DP.

I'm not saying it's impossible to get the best moveset. I'm saying that you have higher chances of getting the best moveset several times in a row if you have low IV mons, but if you have an equal number of high IV mons, it seems like that luck starts to fade away on the high IV ones.

This is true. I also think with the whole RNG some of us are just cursed when.it comes to certain mons. my biome does not have tons or fire or rock, and even with the event, I still can't get a good Rhydon or Charizard

Up

Down

I got 2 good Rhyhorns and a Charizard due to that rock event. And whoopity doo both Rhydons ended up with Rock Smash in addition to Stone Edge & Earthquake, Charizard ended with Fire Blast. Charizard's moveset isn't the worst, but not the best either. I should have evolved a weak Rhydon to see if it got Mud Slap and Earthquake. Oh well, when nests appear, that will be my chance.

They're not of the same species, the test I did was with the same species split into two groups and compared their lower IV ones to the top IV ones (anything above 80% IV with a 15 in either attribute). And the sole condition was: how many get the best moveset in each of the 2 groups. And the incidence of best moveset was 8/10 Furrets in low IVs getting QA/HB, whereas none of the top tier Furrets got QA/HB (this doesn't mean top tier can never get it but that it seems less likely to get it).

Up
0
Down

In my last mass-evo batch. For furretts 1/1 in high iv got QA/HB and 3/13 low iv got QA/HB. So for that low iv group 23% isn't THAT far away from the 17% expected rate. Especially in small sample size.

I'd have to evolve 37 low iv sentrets in a row with QA/HB to get up to 8/10ths.

Alot of people disagree with this, i can relate. Not proven but it feels this way. My Highest IV Alakazam gets PC/FB my lowest gets PC/FS. I relate to this but some people call this coincidence. Also I do not know how many good IV Vaperons i got rid of because they got Water Pulse as the charged attacked. Then i Randomly evolve a high level low IV one and get Hydro Pump first try. I can relate, just bad luck sometimes.

Just capture the most common mons in your area so that it won't cost you any needed candy to test and you get the exp for it too while you're at it. Let's say Rattatas. Check their IVs. Tag them with IV% and optional what their attributes are. Make sure you have 10 (or 20) of the lowest you can find and 10 (or 20) of the highest you can find but as long as the appraisal is highest, for ex Mystic - Wonder, Valor - Amazes, Instinct - battle with best of them, and has 15 for at least one stat.

Why downvote? What is wrong with you? If you can't accept truthful answers then don't even ask questions. My screenshots are real, taken directly from my phone without any 'special effects'.

For the record, I did not downvote you, someone else did. The system doesn't tell who gives the downvote so it's better to not jump ahead amd assume things.

Also, this thread is supposed to be a joke and not to be taken seriously. I was aware that Poliwrath could get Dynamic Punch and RNG had been screwing with me. I thought this was very obvious but it appears I was wrong.

It's not a joke because it's not funny and you posted it without this ?. I was serious about your intention of posting these kinds of questions.

BTW, I asked for the reason of downvotes because other members who posted pictures of their DP Poliwraths also got downvotes. I'm sorry if it wasn't you who did that. May your God of Luck smile upon you! ;)

I do. But now I hate that move on sheer principle (actual results notwithstanding).

I'll probably eventually Fast TM it, but I don't have the Stardust to spare on powering up a non-essential Venusaur right now.
