So now that there are fast TMs and charged TMs in the game. Are there stronger movesets that can be obtained from a mixed legacy moveset than a naturally obtainable moveset?

Mixed legacy movesets through TMs

I just did a pokebattler simulation with no dodge strategy with every possible moveset combo of a Dragonite at level 38.5 against a level 40 Mewtwo with PC/FB. DB/O killed Mewtwo the fastest and tied with the highest HP remaining.

I hope you dont plan to attack mewtwo with dragonite. there are several far superior counters #1 of course being a bite crunch tyran (another is one my personal favorites - double bug scizor)

At this point in the game dragonite is losing its relevance as an attacker. its a game of specialist attackers now vs generalists

They are taking about a Mewtwo with focus blast. Fb will 1 hit a Tyranitar.

Dragonite is not losing relevance. It certainly took a hit with the change in STAB and SE, but it is still an elite attacker in a number of major match-ups.

I hate this logic. Think of the power mewtwo has. youre going to want to dodge the charge move regardless of what it is. ive soloed alakazam a few times already (yes with focusblast)- and didnt hesitate to use tyran. dodge the focusblast which isnt hard and continue attacking. keep in mind this was solo- in a group ...and id assume a mewtwo raid would have a large ass group- dont be afraid to use your tyrans aka highest dps counters.

(ive been using gengar for example in solo raids- first to attack basically just suicide the gengar into say the alakazam giving it as much damage as possible...its a glass cannon wont last long but keep in mind raids are about SPEED not survival (or blissey would be the top choice lol). if im able to dodge the first charge and get an extra shadowball off thats huge vs getting hit by anything (the move of the kazam will end my gengar regardless of what it is)- in which case ill most likely have to retry.

You are right about dragonite to a degree. The way I think about it is that dragonite is still being used quite often because lets face it- evrybody has a powerful dragonite/invested a ton of resources in one. my first fully maxed poke was dragon...and when in doubt ill throw it in my lineup as a 6th option. as the weeks go on people can slowly build armies of just specialists (for example im already up to 4 level39+ machamps)- and my tyran army is coming along.

back to the main point- there is far too much worry about focusblast being a reason not to use tyran. the bottom line is your goal will b dodge the charge move or your fried. have you seen mewtwos base attack? even if tyran resists psychic its gonna put a near ending dent in it if it gets hit - you wont be attacking alone. you just want the highest possible dps - raids are about speed

You don't need to take your anger out on me...I will certainly be using my TTars.

Honest question...does the SE damage multiplier apply if you dodge a move? You still take damage from a charged move, which is why hyper beam was still a good defensive move.

Dragonite is still a great investment because he is a generalist. If I had stardust coming out my ears, a specialist army would be best, but since I don't, Dragonite is a sound investment.

And like you said, you will be in a large group, so why not use Dragonite? Better than using the stupid Blissey that you know people will be using...

  1. Yes it still applies but it doesn't matter as much in practice so far. Since most decent strength mons need some damage to generate energy it's not exactly the end of the worl d to take extra dodged damage on a charge. In may cases it means more DPS thanks to more charge moves and using 5 mons instead of 4.

Of course this is a generalization since we cannot be sure of the exact scaling of legendaries yet. I don't really know how that will work out.

  1. Dragonite is still a great safety net or sweeper even for raids. Of course for ceertain mons you specialize or die but in many cases most folks do not have 6 optimal counters and a strong Dragon is a great option to have on standby.
  2. Yes, compared to the crap folks throw out there now Dragonite really shines. Nothing worse than dodging into a Ninetails you cannot see over in a raid....against Blastoise. IfI get a question pre raid about what folks should be using I often advise them to take Dragons versus the so few and weak optimal counters they have.

This is me answering my own question.

As far as I can tell no. But if you have a legacy move you might be able to get an awesome moveset like Exeggutor with confusion*/solar beam for defense if you didn't get a good charged move previously.

Still would be a happy if anyone found a pokemon with an amazing naturally unobtainable mixed legacy moveset. If not now maybe for a later update. :)

It would just reward the people who have been playing a long time, but still make them work for it.

Dragonite movesets are mostly about preference.
Dragon Breath + Outrage is my fav moveset right now, and its mixed.
DB because its faster than DT, and Outrage because it has the highest dmg per energy in the game.
Edit: Dunno if you meant only the top tier pokemon, but Clefable's best moveset is mixed legacy Pound + Dazzling gleam.

Adding to that list Gyarados with Dragon Breath and Outrage looks like a nice dodger with Dragon type damage. But the meta is not in a need for one, yet.

Karate chop + Dynamic Punch is best for Machamp now.

  1. machamp legacy karate chop with dynamic punch is arguably better (than counter dp). It charges each dp faster + is easier to dodge with.
  2. Gengar with shadaw claw as a legacy quick move. the best possible gengar set is shadowclaw shadowball (by a lot)-ive tested the difference and its insanely better than any quick move currently around
  3. If you are one of the lucky few who have an omastar with a rock throw -as quick move- a double rock omastar will be amazing to have/well is already. (jelous of people who have)
