Dragonites role seems to be a little diminished with the update. He's still the best allrounder but for raids there are better counters for every boss it seems.

I have 7 Dragonites total all powered up. Two of those are maxed out at lvl 35,5 with both having DT/O. Two others have legacy DB as their quick move, which I want to keep. So I had three SW Dragonites. I already changed one into DT with HB as his charge move. So now O have two Dragons remaining at 3100 CP with SW/Hu.

Would you change both of them into DT/Hu or do you see any chance that SW will be Dragonites best quick move one day? Another element would be to expect a move update where SW stays and DT would be replaced by a move even stronger than DT in which case a TM on SW would guarantee the superior move, whereas DT would mean a 50/50 chance at SW or the new move.

Considering that you most likely won't have more than 4 Dragonite in your line up of 6 attacking Pokemon, I would just leave them as they are.

If you are a collector or just hate the fact that they are sub-optimal, you can always change SW into DT as you are guaranteed a better fast move with a fast TM.

With the new updated raid boss counter page that's been posted on Gamepress, it seems like they've added Dragonite as a counter to almost every raid boss. The other day, Dragonite saved my behind and helped me solo Machamp when the odds were against me. Dragonite was my very last Pokemon and Machamp had a nice amount of health left. A bunch of dodges and DT/Outrage moves later, I was able to beat him. And this wasn't even my best Dragonite in terms of IV's! Dragonite has the power and the bulk that not too many Pokemon have. I'm very close to getting my second DT/Outrage 95% IV to level 30. (I am a Dragonite fanboy, btw)

4 high level Dragonites with DT/H with some dodges can solo Machamp.

Dragonite still being one of the best generalist in the game just like tyranitar, strong gym attacker and a solid generalist vs the current raid bosses

But i doubt SW will be the best quick attack move for Dragonite ever, even vs a rock type pokemon dragon tail deals more damage, it will always have one dragon quick move which definetaly will be better than the second one, who knows if in gen3 release it will have moves changed again and DT and SW be replaced, but in gen 3 we have another strong dragon

Obviously you don't know 2 things.
1: SW has higher DPS than DT without STAB.
2: Super effective bonus has been buffed to be more than STAB bonus.

Who, in the their right mind would use DT without STAB? Other than Gyarados, which is sub-optimal already compared to anything else against a raid boss, I don't think changing SW is a bad idea...

Also, SW and Steel attack type in general is pretty weak/useless in the current game...only SE into Ice, Rock and Fairy which...everything already weak to Steel is pretty much weaker to something else even more (like Tyranitar and fighting, Rhydon and Grass, well, there are no Fairy bosses) so having a Steel attack is pretty useless IMO...

OP, however, has an army of Dragonites already so using/wasting a TM is probably unnecessary...Sorta like all the complaints with low levelers and non-walkers/grinders having 20 Tyranitars...ultimately, you can only use a max of 6...Gym defense is useless now so a ton of Blisseys are just not needed.

I'd save the TMs and just wait since you don't need that many Dragonites...If you want to duo Tyranitar, then having 4+ Machamps could be useful, etc...

What would you use DT for? The only type it is good against is dragon. There are no dragon raid bosses, and Dragonite raid bosses in the future will also hit your Dragonite with dragon SE damage.

I use it to clear out rival gyms all the time...Saves time from having to swap out and bulky enough to just keep hitting constantly and be done with the new gym meta...

YES, WE ALL KNOW that it's not the best raid counter, but if you don't have 6x anything, it's probably the best generalist 6th man on a team...

Bulky, hits hard, 2 bar charge move...generally works ok...

That's what I use DT for at least...

Recommend saving resources for further updates for legendaries. You have 7 Dnites that aren't necessarily required in raids, although strong i.e. DT/HU for solo Machamp, there are other optimal counters. If you have the patience, I'd wait till the meta changes again.

While not the SUPREME counter, DT/O and DT/H are very useful second tier options for raid bosses. Their bulk and high damage output help in slots 5&6 once you've run through the glass cannons or other specialized counters.
