What will happen with acquiring Poliwrath, Slowbro and Vileplume in Gen 2?

Anyone have an idea how this is going to work? How will one get Bellossom, Politoed and Slowking? Will it be a branch evolution and not a guarantee? If these are the new guaranteed evolutions how will one get a Poliwrath, Slowbro or Vileplume?

I'm collecting these candies so I can specifically have enough for the new evolution - just curious how it is going to work.

No one knows for sure.

I'd guess it will be like Eevee is right now - there may be a one time "forced" evolution with a naming convention, and otherwise it'll be random between the two.

I'd hope it puts two separate evolution options and you can always choose. That's wishful thinking.

I've also read the idea that pokestops may provide an item needed to trigger the new evolution. Not sure how practical that would be but it could work as well.

How would anyone besides someone on the Pokemon GO team know for certain?

Going from the only available example which is Eevee, it'll probably be random. I doubt that they'd make old evolutions unavailable though.

It could be random but then they have to drop the required candies. No way you can collect 100-125 candies of a rare pokemon (oddish/poliwag) only to get an outcome you didn't want.

Eevees are no big deal right now since they are everywhere. Not too hard to get candies and with it being random, spending 25 to get a Jolteon every single time isn't to bad other than it being very frustrating.

"No way you can collect 100-125 candies of a rare pokemon (oddish/poliwag) only to get an outcome you didn't want."

Taken out of context you could use this quote to also talk about movesets, yet movesets are still determined entirely by random.

For me, all 3 of those Pokemon are common in my area. Does that invalidate your argument? Or just because Eevees are common for you, does that mean there aren't areas where Eevees are uncommon?

It is a huge difference between spending 100-125 candies and guaranteeing you will get the pokemon you want vs a random moveset.

I specifically used Eevees because to evolve them they only cost 25 candies. Everyone has always been able to find Eevees.

You can't possibly be saying you think it is ok to have to spend 100+ candies to get a random pokemon you don't want/need. You must just be trying to be difficult and playing devil's advocate just because.

There's still the possibility of an undesired moveset which is just as useless as an unwanted Pokemon, yet undesired moves are still in this game.

I don't see the difference between getting a Politoed when you wanted a Poliwrath and getting a Poliwrath with Mud Shot when you wanted one with Bubble.

You'd think that with some movesets being so god-awful e.g. Bulldoze Arcanine or Twister Gyarados that they'd rebalance moves so that people aren't getting Twister after spending 400 Magikarp candies, but seeing as Niantic haven't, what makes you think they'll do anything about the upcoming branched evolutions either?

The game is about collecting pokemon, not movesets. So if you are trying to fill your pokedex at least right now you know you are getting a Poliwrath when you spend 100 candies.

You don't know what you are getting with Eevee evolutions so it only costs 25.

While a certain moveset might not be very good at least you are guaranteed that pokemon you have been trying to get to fill your pokedex.

As it stands now there is no precedent set for spendin 100+ candies and not getting the pokemon you want.

I'm just hopeful that the number of required candies is reduced if it ends up being random or there is some other way/choice to guarantee which pokemon you want.

As for movesets, for the most part, they are either good for attack or defending. Yes you may want one moveset but if it you don't get it you can usually still use the other moveset for something at least.

I didn't get bubble on my Poliwrath who I wanted as a defender. But he is still a monster on offense even with Mud Shot. I can pound away and still easily dodge with him.

I really wanted a Poliwrath defender but I don't actually mind him with Mud Shot.
