Is Pokemon Go Dying?

When the new update came it out it was glorious. We had dozens of people show up to all the 4 star raids. Even on July 4th we had over 20 people come out to a Tyranitar raid and had to split into 2 groups. But ever sense this failed event came out no one is showing up to raids. We couldn't even get 2 people to come to a tyrantiar raid on Saturday. We asked around why people aren't showing up and they stated that they are quitting for now because of how betrayed they feel by Niantics Anniversary event. Is any one else feeling the same effects?

The "effects" yes, a lot of people are "protesting" (see prior post of not playing on 7/17/17)
I won't quit though, this is a game. I will treat it as such, i will get bored of it sometimes and will put it down and sometimes i will really want to go outside and see what is around. clearly a lot of people disagree with my thoughts on the game. But i am just trying to enjoy what they have created and go with the changes they make. As for the Raiding, have you been able to use a social site? or exchange phone numbers with people when you did that raid? great way of finding groups to go raid hunting.

My motivation vastly dropped off after the latest update. I grinded relatively hard to reach level 37, and gyms are nowhere near competitive as they used to be. If it were not for raids, I would drop this game entirely. This might also have something to do with me having a newborn baby, but even if I didn't I would not be playing as much as I used to be.

The game is not the same as it used to be, and to me the time and effort required now is not worth the accomplishments earned. The gym scene is even more stagnant now that they reduced the number of free coins per day, and made it much more difficult to obtain. I relied heavily on the 100 coins per day to fund the items that make this game fun (Incubators), as I am not a hardcore gamer who spends real money on mobile games.

So yes, in my opinion this game is dying. I don't even think a legendary event could bring up my motivation to play more.

In my city we have like only 30 serious players who still playing a little. Nobody go farm pokeballs and itens anymore, we just go take coins on the single gym of the city and battle on raids, taking advantage of this time to spin Pokestops.
We're all disappointed with this event but the game continues. No one serious player is going to quit the game just cuz of this mistake, unless the ocasional players but yeah, we're getting more and more bored.

I think the game WAS dying before the rework. The rework caused a new spike in interest, which is now fading again. There is no doubt that keeping interest in this game alive for the long term is going to be a challenge. I very much like that they made gyms and the game in general more accessible to casuals, that was badly needed. But they probably need to work on adding a competitive element that will keep the hardcores happy.

No still a lot of people are raiding here. Ofcourse its less everyday as a lot of people now have their first lapras/tyrannitar/snorlax/starter and quit playing till new bosses.
more than 50% of the people are level 30< and have no idea what they are doing. attacking with chansey and surprised about time outs or all pokemon fainted after 10-20 seconds.

I can attest to this. I am level 37 and on Valor. Last night 5 of us took down a Tyranitar with 5 seconds left. The other four trainers were all less than level 28 and all on Instinct. At one point I heard someone say they were down to Snorlax.... I accounted for over a 1/3 of the total damage. While I think the new update brought back casual players, I think everyone is going to get bored soon. The game is too easy now.

The worst thing that keeps boring me and the other players from here is that Niantic improve in-game things but NEVER do the basic: add new Pokestops and Gyms.
We want to play more and have more fun, we like the game, but we still with 1 acessible Gym and 3 Pokestops for a 55000hab city.

If the game is dying, then it started dying before the gym rework, when gyms stayed intact for weeks and months -and not necessarily because gyms were loaded with Blisseys: when gym rework hit, I had a Vaporeon staying for 86 days in a gym, not a secluded one, that contained no Blissey and no Snorlax.

I don't think that this game is dying or will die if for no other reason, Niantic has the Pokemon name/brand behind it. That's the reason why everyone feels so strongly about things one way or the other. Also its still a top 10 grossing app in the U.S Apple store. With that said, I wonder what Niantic will do once everyone has an abundance of 90%+ IV Snorlax, Tyranitar, and other rares. Especially if they ever rotate raid bosses. Will they actually be rare if a lot of people have them? Legendary Birds are appealing, but then what? School is out, its summer and raids are fairly new. But once the novelty wears off & everyone has a lot of great pokemon, what will any of that matter if gyms are still so simple to defeat and there isn't any pvp or some sort of competitive aspect to the game? I know it sounds silly talking about competition in Pokemon Go, but after you fill out your dex or come close, there is only so much left to keep lots of people motivated to play regularly and possibly spend money.

They will keep it interesting with new raid bosses, new moves, new egg hatch possibilities, etc. But I agree, the initial burst of interest in raiding has worn off. I have five Tyranitar and six Machamp now so it's hard to justify the effort of making a special trip to a raid. They need to mix up the boss pool soon.

"Betrayed?" Unbelievable. These must be Millennials we are talking about, because I can't imagine any normal person feeling so entitled that they consider it a betrayal when they don't get some huge freebie that they speculated they might get.

Most of the people in my group are over 40, all feel the same way.

And I guess I will add that y'all did such a bang up job raising those spoiled brats ;)

You know the greatest joke that is the truest fact i have ever heard came out of none other than Louis C.K.'s mouth. He said, "As humans, we waste the shit out of our words. It’s sad. We use words like “awesome” and “wonderful” like they’re candy. It was awesome? Really? It inspired awe? It was wonderful? Are you serious? It was full of wonder? You use the word “amazing” to describe a goddamn sandwich at Wendy’s. What’s going to happen on your wedding day, or when your first child is born? How will you describe it? You already wasted “amazing” on a fucking sandwich." now think about this with "betrayed" and now what happens when your best friend sleeps with your significant other.... Seriously, 4 dislikes and this guy speaks logic. Betrayed is such an over emotional word for this.

I think that begs the question, is that how they actually feel, or are they just using words? If they feel betrayed, that is a little sad.

FYI I downvoted them because of the crack on Millenials, as if other generations don't exaggerate things. If you negatively generalize an entire generation of people, I am going to downvote you.

Well i will agree with you on that. Nothing should really be generalized as much, I find myself over exaggerating a little sometimes. But i read this comment and the first thing that popped into my mind was this joke. Everyone is over dramatic sometimes. Words are more powerful than people know anymore...

I don't think its dying. While I still play the same as before the update, I get more gym action. I am mostly a solo player as I wander around the parks during lunch break. I now have time to interact with gyms that haven't recently been taken down and are only up to L3-5. I can now take down a L6 gym and have had it taken back within a few minutes. I've also seen that gym I just took be powered up to L6 in short order too. So, for now, I'm still observing way more activity than before the rework.

Just yesterday I went to a Trex raid and over 40 people showed up -- more were driving in as we were fighting it as well. In my area it seems to be alive and well.

And before you ask, no I do not live in the city.

Maybe, a month ago I would have sprinted outside looking for it. Crowd fatigue, even though nothing special happening

Note that in the 1990's, virtually every game became more difficult with every new level you obtained. If you made it to the next level that really meant something.
If you failed, you had to restore to your last saved game and try again. A game died if you completed it or failed so much that you needed a cheat sheet.

Today's game is totally reversed. You reached high level? Lucky you! Random number generator * Poké(mon/stop/gym) density * time on your hands and they now say the game died when it became too easy!

Not dying, but a lot of people are disenfranchised and giving up/taking breaks. My girlfriend does the minimum to get streaks now and i do little more.

This is almost solely to do with bugs and glitches. The gym scene is almost unplayable for us. So many bugs (unkillable mons, health bars keep refreshing, lag that ends in timing out) and constant network errors.

She was the paying player and has very little tolerance for bugs and glitches. If she can't play the game as intended she loses interest very fast.

Couple this with the fact that we have never seen a single other person in a raid and this update has been a huge step backwards for us.

We are level 34 and i have 1800kms walked but now my usual gym circuit holds no real incentive.

If it lasts too much longer my girlfriend will just move on to another game and without her, my interest will wane. We have stuck through this whole year and what is killing it for us is glitches and bugs - which is more disappointing considering how much money Niantic made on this. Not sure if it is laziness or incompetence but the result is the same.

Never, it's just too good ;)

This game has so much potential, I won't give up hope and don't see myself quitting. Any game that helps me lose weight by making daily exercise so much fun is a winner!

I realize others don't feel this way, but there are many other games that may suit them better.

P.S. This event leaves much to be desired, but the last one was great.

Not dying but definitely a step backwards with the latest update. So much was put into raids the rest of the game seems forgotten to me. Giving away rare mons cheaply was not a good idea, as anyone who's worked for them through the winter will testify. Taking away prestiging was another big mistake imo, catching & evolving commons became just too boring with no use for them. No use either for your big defenders, again, time & effort gone to waste. The new gym system is just terrible with no incentive to take down a gym, or indeed defend it. The only positive thing to come out of this is raids, but they are too frequent & not varied enough & lately good rewards are v hard to come by. Niantic, you have alot of work on your hands to pull this game back around, admitting to your mistakes is a good starting point.
