Gym Medals

How do you get the gold medal fastest in a gym? Keep the pokemon as long as possible in there or led them die as often as possible to get a new one inside? Are there any information provided? Has a gold medal another advantage, than only get +1 item?

Berries -> 10Points
New Pokemon -> 100Points
Fights -> ?
Defends -> ?
Hours in Gym -> ?

Sorry for my bad english. Bud I'm too tired to give me more trouble. ;-)

Raid at the gym, I believe it is 1000 xp. It is the fastest way :)

1XP reward * minutes defending
Feeding a Berry 10XP /
Deploying a Defender 100XP /
Winning a Raid 1000XP /
Winning a Battle 0.01XP reward * defender CP
Lose a Battle 5XP

I always get 5 or 6 items from the 2 closest gyms, my color controls them and I have a silver badge. Don't drive across town to go for a medal, but if you can see it, try to keep a creature in it
