The Machamp Dilema. Cross Chop VS Dynamic Punch

Hey all! New user here all the way from Spain (currently in France though...), long time fan of this website but just created an account now!

OK, off to the question: Why isn't Cross Chop better than Dynamic Punch? It's probably a stupid question, sorry in advance, but it's just that I look at the DPS of both Dynamic Punch and Cross Chop, and Cross Chop seems to have slightly higher DPS. I know Dynamic Punch has more Damage (90) than Cross Chop (50), but Cross Chop having more DPS essentially means that you'd be able to throw Cross Chop more often and do more damage overall than with Dynamic Punch. What am I missing?

I have two level 37.5 Machamps, one with Counter/Dynamic Punch, and another with Karate Chop/Cross Chop. Then I also have two other Machamps at level 20, one with Karate Chop/Dynamic Punch and the other with Counter/Cross Chop (I love the mix of legacy and new moves). After I power up the other two Machamps, which of the other two should I focus on? I also have another Karate Chop/Sumbission Machamp, but I'm assuming it's not worth my time...

Thanks in advance for any input!

I am no expert but there is a lot of info on the Machamp page: "Cross Chop and Submission are sub-par fighting moves. Cross Chop favors the player who likes to dodge (lower damage output with lower cooldown) while Submission favors the player who doesn’t (higher damage with higher cooldown)."

Gamepress - please - remove this damn Charged move's DPS from your website. It is completely misleading. Feel free to replace it by

time adjusted Damage per Energy := (damage - 10 * cooldown time) / (Energy + 10 * coldown time)

This metrix ranges from 0,4 for very bad charged moves over 0,6...0,7 for normal charged moves to 0,88 for solar beam, the best charged move.

With this metrics we can take into account that a charged move needs energy and that the quick move does not deal damage and does not generate energy during charged moves cooldown.

I explain this 2 to 3 times a week.

Thanks a lot!

Yes, that would make things much easier. Seems like DPS values are a bit outdated. Thanks for the help!

The simplisty of your formula is nice.

However, a better answer would be to list the move combos at the end and use Damage Per Cycle and DPSpC

Comparing Ratios works somewhat between moves but it depends also on what you can do with the extra time the shorter move takes.

I agree charge move "DPS" should be removed, but your proposed metric is impossible in physics: how can you add or subtract energy and time?

They should just calculate cycle PPS per move set as in my comment https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/q-a/trying-understand-your-true-dps#comment-454811
For attack and defense (+2 sec added per move), STAB included.

"What am I missing?"

You missed the energy part.

Cross Chop does more DPS but request more EPS (Energy per second). This means that for the same amount of energy, you will use Cross Chop for a shorter period of time.

Ok, I think I get it. I was confused at first because you said that Cross Chop requires more energy, despite Cross Chop and Dynamic Punch both being two bar moves. But I see that the end result is that, Cross Chop requires more energy to output the same amount of damage that Dynamic Punch would with less energy. So confusing... But helpful! Thanks!
