Raid System
Hey friends,
What do you all think about the raid system?
Do you feel like your grinding efforts to get strong mons like tyranitar have become undermined?
Or do you believe that the system is fun and a fair way for people to enjoy the game?
Answers
It is great.
This system forced me in contact with other players. It is really funny to have those flash-mob-like meetings at seemingly random places - out of nowhere with no visible reason appear lots of cars, bikes, people, everybody has one or two phones in his hands, after some minute all disappear.
I am doing those raids mainly for TMs and rainbow-candies, it gives faster reward than grinding - but this only seems so. As dust is the limiter now, the difference between players strength will still come from time invested grinding.
Someone who has done 20 Tyranitar raids will have 10-15 good Tyranitars at level 20, some candys and TMs - but he will not have the dust to max one of those out.
These changes are subtile - now we, who are used to earn 5000 dust / 100 coins each day, now feel how it must have been for minority players - no granted dust, no granted coins - just walk and catch to get ressources.
This is good. This is very good. Those Pokemon-drive players have lost much of their advantage.
Rural here. We have a nice strip to play on ~1km, 10 stops, 7 gyms. There is a huge following ranging from all ages. We coordinate through Facebook and Discord. Other than that one strip you're lucky to see a stop or two every kilometer. Look around. You really only need 3 other players for the high level raids if yall are serious trainers. I've found that Friday and Saturday were the best days for lv 4 raids.
It's great !! Yesterday I were on the bus , saw Tyran on the gym next bus stop. Then I asked my husband, can I get off the bus to join the raid if there are Real people there cause I can't solo raid boss !! Yeh !! Real people there so I got off the bus , ran back to the gym . One family came behind me 2 boys dad and mom and they all play Pokemon. I saw this is sweet moment Freind and family spend time together. No shame to show up the gym anymore. I don't care how many Tyran spoofer can collect but I'm so happy to fight and catch with Real people
I find it fun but can be pretty frustrating for people that it is not on "big cities". I think this can be and should be addressed, for example let people see if anyone is in the lobby and intends to fight the raid BEFORE using the pass, and scale down/up the mon cp to the number of people there is, it has no sense that 15 players fight the same tyranitar as 2 or 3 (they have proofed that automated cp scale can be done with gyms so it should be pretty fast and easy to implement that on raids).
Also a nice addition to prevent that "scale down" thing to be farmed is to limit the number of raids you can actually do per day and cycle the mons like once each 1/2 months. I hope that by the end of the summer a new generation is released and the actual raid bosses change, for example remove Tyranitar and put Dragonite or Blissey instead, the same for others. Doing this you are letting people now that bosses are not there forever and also players from less populated areas may have a reason to go to those rare raids on a regular basis instead of just do one per week with their family or friends. People work hard for something when they know it is not something granted to stay forever.
A part from that I think the drop TM rate should go back to the previous numbers and reduce the number of revives, add dust and other items too like potions, even if they are not max potions, hyper for example, would be very helpful instead of getting like 30x revives in a raid that you just don't want anymore.
I disagree in the most points.

I would not concider my nearest 60k-citicen-town a "big city" but we have Tyranitar-Flash-Mobs of 25 players here.
and scale down/up the mon cp to the number of people there is
Please do not. The current system provides both - a motivation to meet other trainers and a real challenge for elite trainers (doing tier3-raids solo and tier4-raids duo)
If you are really alone, try tier3 or - if its too hard - do tier 2.

Of course not Please let those who want to do so spend a lot of bucks and do a raiding streak on their holydays. They pay us free players.
cycle the mons like once each 1/2 months
A good idea. As the raid system is not yet 2 weeks old, we do not know the cycle time. I would prefer if they would offer raids of all available pokemon. No need for a cycle imo.

Hell no! A TM is this valuable! Do you remember the complaints about wrong movesets? Now, a moveset hardly matters at all, there are TMs. One or Two TMs per week should be sufficient on the long term for sure. How many Pokemon do you evolve each week? It is the backload of old wrong evolutions that makes us need so many TMs now. On the long term, this rate is good as it is.
and reduce the number of revives,
Yes, indeed. Those are a real annoyance.
add dust
No! Grinding for Dust, raids for Candy and TMs is great as it is. A Raid should not provide all ressources needed in the game.

The rewards are still huge. If I get more than 2 rainbow candy or at least 1 machine, i am happy. Compare with the efford we had before!
60k and you not consider it a city? What is 60k people a small town? Also you are just taking my exact words to make your point, you know what I meant by not "big city" players, I was referring to small towns.
My point to limiting the raids you can do per day was about to balance the game a little more for rural players, the difference between them and city ones with this raid system is becoming huge than ever, how many tier 4 raids are making city players a day? Compare the numbers with small areas, there has be a breaking point somewhere if no this is just a pay to win game and a lot of people don't like that at all.
On top of that if you leave the raids with no limits even pay players will get bored very very soon, doing like 20 raids per day how much time do you think it will last? A month?
As for adding dust to raids it was just again to balance things a bit, not all players have the chance to "grind" insane amounts of cluster spawns with go plus or catching like 20 mon while sitting in a random coffee shop, most don't have either enough pokeballs to do it and not the same amount of stops and/or spawns. Removing dust from gyms and don't give any alternative to get it from raids, even with a low amount, it is for me a big mistake. They should either give dust from raids or bring it back to gyms for sure.
You think the rewards are huge, try to do only tier 1 and 2 raids because you don't have enough people to do 3 and 4, and then come back and tell me that rewards are huge ;)

Seems to be a wording problem. My english teacher told my to talk about a town when bigger than a village, to talk about a city wit half a million habitants. So i suggest, a big city has at least one millions.

The game has never been fair to rural players.
I think, the better way to fix this would be a minimum density of gyms and pokestops, so all rural players get a chance to get ressources and raids too. Not a limit for those who want to spend a lot of money.

Until they notice that they still need dust and have to grind. to get a use out of their aquired ressources. :-)

This problem should be solved with a given minimum spawn-density. Same as above.

Yesterday, i did not want my pass to be useless and i did a level 2 raid solo twice.
Still a TM and a 95%IV-Exeggutor for me and 2 rainbow balls and a 90% Exeggutor for my wife.
This is equivalent of one missed evolution or in case of my wife - 10 kms of walking. I got this with 10 minutes investment.
2 Fine Exeggutors on top.
This is a huge reward for minimal investment of time.
