SW/O Dragonite

I've seen several people saying that Steel Wing is underrated and that they like it on Dragonite.

My question is: should I power this one up as is and use it?

When I get a fast TM should I use it on him or save it to use on something else? It's at level 20 with 15 attack and defense stats. Candies and stardust are no issue.

I already have a DT/H and Tyranitar with B/SE, but would like to have another strong generalist.

Silph road has Steel Wing as the Best DPS move on their list. So i don't think it is underrated, but i am curious myself. I have one i caught that is SW/H and was wondering if that is a good base attacker.... not even for raids but just gyms.

You wouldn't want SW with Hurricane. TM it. Hurricane is NVE to rock, the only type steel is good against that Dnite isn't double weak to.
SW can only go well with Outrage.

SW is a defensive move without stab, and it is only effective against pokemons that dragonites are weak against in the first place. Looking at it s EPS and DPS, it is both inferior to DT. The only thing going for it is it takes less time, but it is hardly an advantage because 1. It is 0.8s vs 1.1s, not a big difference. 2. You don't really need to dodge in the battle against the raid boss. The only time dodging might make some difference in raids is when you solo against a level 3 boss. Overall I consider SW clearly inferior to DT.

SW/O dc/Dp (exclusive) works well when fighting Tyr boss when u round out of specialist.
As for Rhydon i am sure many have at least 6 vap or equivalent at or above level 30

SW is inferior to DT not matter the sugar coating is. It has it's type advantages, yes but most of them are Dragonite counters so it kinda negates the purpose of using SW Dragonite against them. I have all variants of their quick moves and based on real life experience, I'd rank them DT > DB > SW. I don't want to open an age old argument regarding DT and DB but straight up DPS and weave mastering of attack patterns, DT wins against DB.

Lol I think it is DB > SW > DT. You can fit in 4 DBs or 2 SWs between a ZH, and both are better than 1 DT.And you can't really fit in 2 DTs!

You should learn the 1-dodge-2-dodge-pattern. This is neccesairy for slow quick-attacks and gives you a noticeable damage boost.
