Are rare candies safe to use?

I suppose I am curious, because, for those who remember from the original games, rare candies were considered a "short-cut" of shorts, and, when used, they would actually drop the stats of the pokemon you leveled up, and it would be a little bit weaker than it would have been had you leveled it up the "proper" way, through training and battles.

It seems unlikely given that rare candies simply convert to the type of candy that you would like them to, but I am curious if anyone else has thought about, researched, or read anything about this?

PoGo is not the same as the main series games so don't expect what rare candies do to change at all. They choose to simplify the system and on this I am ok with Niantic.

Rare candies are just candies for any other species, and I am pretty sure they are here because of legendaries so I would suggest to save them for that or you will need to walk thousands of km to power up your legendaries ;)

Save for legendaries and future gen 3 pokes.

And to provide you with information of rare candy in the main series, they don't "drop stats," but are a shortcut. If you're interested I would research the difference between IV's and EV's for the main series, and it should explain why rare candies have their uses if you have access to them.

Rare Candies never dropped the stats of a mon in the original games.

However, if you leveled a mon to 100 with candies without training it enough in the wild, it would not reach the max amount of EVs (effort values). This would make it weaker than a similar, fully trained pokémon.

Effort values were stat points given from defeating another pokémon in battle. A defeated pokémon would give points based on its strongest base stat and its evolution stage. A pokémon could get a maximum of 510 EV's, with a maximum of 252 in any given stat. 4 EV's would translate to 1 point of that stat at level 100, so a total of 127 extra stat points could be gained.

EV's are, together with IV's, the hidden values that differentiates two pokémon of the same species. As EV's can not be maxed in all stats, it allowed for customization of a pokémon (i.e. you could make defensive or offensive variants of a mon based on the stats you invested in).

That being said if I recall correctly you max out the EVs beforehand Rare Candy is okay to use and will not hinder overall growth.
