New Update...Good or Bad??

Niantic has launched a huge update of Pokémon GO this summer. There are a lot of new features and a new gym system. Many trainers like this update. But unfortunately most trainers have a lot of complaints about this new update. Many think the competition and excitement of this game is gone. A fellow trainer started a discussion about this(https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/q-a/nothing-matters-any-more). Many trainers agreed with him and many disagreed with him. Here I am explaining the pros and cons of this update:

The new update removed duplicate Pokémons from gyms. This is on my opinion a great decision. Blissey towers are just too boring. Now many species of Pokémon have a chance of showing their gym defending skills. There are very few trainers who complain about this. So this is definitely a good update.

The new raid system has huge rewards. Rare Pokémon are now easy to obtain. Rare candies make it easier to evolve any Pokémon. Premier balls have a very high catch rate. This makes catching rare Pokémons from raid battles very easy. I'll explain this later let's get to the next point.

The new update changed the gym system. Prestiging and CP-wise gym positioning is gone. But the worst part of this gym rework is that you need your Pokémon to be kicked out of the gym to get your coins. This is highly argued and complained by many trainers.

Now many trainers are complaining that Niantic has made the game 'too easy' and the competition and excitement is gone. I shared a link before and I agree with the guy that the game has collapsed. And just like he said, Walking, CP, Egg hatching, IV, Levelling up, Exploring etc don't matter much anymore. The raid battles have made things way too easy for trainers. Many trainers are complaining that the fun of the game is pretty much gone. I personally agree with them. Catching rare and strong Pokémon is now too easy and this just too boring.

Yet, when I say against the new update, many trainers will argue with me. They have a point as well. The point is spoofers are a great problem in this game and I agree with it. In the previous version, the game had a decent difficulty for legal players but too easy for spoofers. Now it is super easy for spoofers and real players. I agree with this point as well. But think about it, spoofers still has an advantage over legal players and spoofers are spoofers. There is no challenge and fun in spoofing. But catching, hatching or evolving strong Pokémon legally was a great adventure. Now since it is too easy, trainers can'g feel this. Before, the players who easily caught wild Pokémons from their home was known as spoofers. And now the hard core players who wants to feel the challenge and adventure will be known as 'Stupids'. So just to reduce the advantage of spoofing, Niantic has taken away the value of walking, catching wild Pokémon, egg hatching, exploring etc. If everyone has rare and strong Pokémon the game is not fun at all. And the new gym system has removed the value of CP and IV. So, this is not good either. The game needs to have a balance. Raid battles make the game too easy and so other things of the game are now pretty much worthless. I am not saying that raid battles are bad. I don't want them to be removed. But I want the other things to be as important as well. So, the guy with the nothing matters any more post and I are in the same page. The game has completely collapsed. Nothing besides the raid battles matter and the game has lost its excitement and competition. In fact, many future updates are ruined as well.Like trading, who would want to trade Pokémon when everyone has everything? They need to fix this as soon as possible:

At present, you need your Pokémon to be kicked out of the gym to get your coins. This is totally ridiculous. This is the worst part of the update. This needs to be fixed. CP wise gym position has to be reinserted. The current method is not good. CP wise gym position will keep values of CP and IV. And if everyone is too worried about Slaking, there's a solution for that too. Niantic will just not give Slaking any quick moves, that's it. It will keep his old ability to balance the battles. In other Pokémon games, Slaking is super strong but has to wait a while to use its moves. Here It has super high CP but it has to wait untill its meter charges to use a move. Just like all the other Pokémon games have balanced Slaking, Pokémon GO will balance it easily. And so my opinion is CP wise gym position is the best method. PvP battles need to be brought as soon as possible. That is the best way to get the excitement back. Currently, gym attacking is completely worthless. Why would you work so hard to attack a gym when you don't get any reward for that? And why would you attack a gym to help others get their coins? So, some coins should be awarded for taking down gyms. Premier balls have a very high catch rate. So catching raid boss is just too easy. So, the catch rate of premier balls should be decreased to lower than an ultra ball or maybe less than a great ball. This would actually be a great step to fix the game. This way, catching a level 3 raid boss will be super difficult(but possible). This will make catching wild Pokémon easier than the raid boss. But premier balls will still have its value as rare Pokémons are easy to find in raid battles and premier balls will still be the only ball to catch raid bosses. And raid battles will still have its value for its rewards. So this step must be taken. The IV of raid bosses should be reduced by a bit(not too much; if it gets reduced too much, rais battles will become unimportant) to get back the value of eggs.

This is my opinion. I hope if Niantic takes these steps, everything will get back its value but raid battles will still be important. If you have any ideas, comment it below. I know many players will disagree with me but I hope most of you will think I am right. If you think you have a better logic than mine, you are free to share it with us. Just let me know if my explanations are right.

I complete agree with your post. Very well written.

They should strongly decrease the amount of available raides. It should be something rare, let alone level 4 raids.

They probably shouldn't reduce the amount of raids, but they should reduce the amount of level 3 and 4 raids to make them alot more rare. Especially level 4 raids.

1) I agree, they should just add coins to your account for every 10 minutes your pokemon is in a gym. (When you reach the cap, it would obviously stop adding them) Then kicking out rival pokemon will feel good, and you'd want to actually put a strong pokemon in the gym.

2) I don't agree. I really like that I can use pokemon who are great defenders, but where held back by low cp now. This adds alot to the diversity in gyms, which is something I personnaly hated in the old system. However, I do feel that there needs to be a system that prevents pidgeys or low level pokemon from being placed in gyms.

3) I completely agree. This probably needs to be next big update in pogo. They need some sort of ranking to go with this aswell, to really push pvp as the end-game goal.

4) Yes, but as I suggested in 1), if they change how coins are collected, you get the reward of knowing you stopped your rival team from getting coins. However, If they awarded coins for completly taering down gyms, lets say also capped at 50, there's a great incentive to attack AND defend gyms. As you'll need to do both to get your 100 coins. (the amout you could collect daily in the old system) So I agree with you here.

5) Yes, premier balls should have the same catch rate as the main series games (the same as a regular pokeball). As much as I'd love to finally get a Tyranitar, I do get where most of you are comming from.

6) Not sure I agree, I hatch mostly for the stardust and exp annyways. There just isn't much I need annymore from them.

To summarise: I like the new system, as there's alot more turnover and divesity in the current system then there used to be in my area. But I do agree there's alot of room for improvements.

1
Yes.
If without the coin cap, the 6 coins per hour part is good for all, unless you hate Pokécoins.

2
They need to implement other Pokémon's abilities as well.
Abilities were added back in gen 3.
CP really needs a place, above 3000 CP equals to 9% more motivation lost than normal per hour is simply too much. 1% more makes the game more interesting, but 9% is just too much.

3
Lags and bugs are more important, or a level 1 Magikarp can eventually beat a level 39 Slaking due to better Internet connections, and the Slaking has an extremely bad connection to the game server.

4
Attacking levels up your gym badge, with an unknown amount of gold gym badges, you can participate legendary raid battles in the future.

5
This would benefits spoofers, no one would spend potions and revives to fight in raids, and TMs might be worthless then.
Unown and Blissey aren't the raid bosses, so you can't catch them with raid battles, as well as Dragonites.

6
The raid bosses have their own formulas, haven't discovered them yet.

Yep. I've already have 3 Lapras with minimum 90 IV's, 3 Tyranitar minimum 82 IV's from this raid things!
Why should I walking hundreeds mills for candy, I just needs wait to raid. Common this is too easy, No challenge here!
And what about PvP? I even don't need that feature of that.

Most of the shitty thing is why I should help other trainer to get their pokemon back? because my pokemon still on the gym almost 4 days!
I'm okay with this gym reroll concept, but I guess Niantic should bring the collect coin back like before!
Cause I'm lazy enough to take down other gym, while my pokemon still on the gym until now!

I even spend almost 2 millions stardust for levelin up my Dragonite, Tyranitar, Blissey, Exeggutor, etc at maximum, now their level are useless!

And about my advice to Niantic is;
1. CP is matter at the gym, use this new concept but using CP sorting like old concept!!
2. Give the collect coin back!!
3. About Tyranitar, Snorlax, Lapars at the raid, make them very very rare!!
4. And decrease the Premier ball catch ratio!!
5. Give the pokemon breeding for erasing this current boring concept! To make this game fun again!

ps; PvP not matter cause this current raid!

Another suggestion (I've vented enough):

  • Limit level/tier 1-2 raids to level 20+ players
  • Limit level/tier 3 raids to level 25+ players
  • Limit level/tier 4 raids to level 30+ players
  • Limit level/tier 5 raids to level 35+ players

The trainer levels are up for debate, of course, but there should be a reward for higher level trainers.

Agree with others, 50 coins for taking down gyms (for a total of 100 per day, like before) would greatly increase rival team members' motivation to send your mon home, and make good defenders relevant again.

That's it for now, I'll give it some more thought.

The coins for attacking thing has been suggested a lot here, but some players are saying it would encourage those who make double accounts to just kick themselves out, thus getting the full 100 coins. And that it still won't help in gyms where one team is dominant, because there may not be anyone up for kicking them out.

Up

Yeah, I think attacking won't help if you are in a majority team dominated area...You get 5-10 coins, you tear down their gyms, they get 50...The best chance if only if you are the last defender for the evening...

In the old system, I spend 1 minute clearing 1 mon...Now, it's 3 fights, albeit EASY fights after the 1st round, but I don't want to have to fight 18 battles honestly...That's typically a level 5 or 6? old gym I think. Don't want to waste 10-15 minutes when someone else can just knock me out within hour and stick another 6 for me to battle.

Also, defenders can use the berry defense and add more motivation a lot of times (I've had it done to me and I've done it to others) so you end up fighting even more...

I think there is only 1 way to fix this so that everyone's fine with it so that no one will rant about shavers and such:
Any mon defending keeps earning 1 coin per 10 minutes, but once they hit 50, they can be claimed at the end of the day. No loss in what was gathered by then though.

What this will do:
People who don't want the enemy teams to succeed will feel the need to knock them away before they get the 50 coins.
People won't rant about not being able to stay enough to even get a coin, since the 1 coin per 10 minutes will still be active. Those who can claim enough gyms to make their daily 50 coins basically have a guarantee to have them if no rival attacks.

Premier Balls are like regular Pokeballs.

Well if they nerf raids now it will also suck. Some people farmed af already.
In fact i think they already nerfed tm drop rates. I saw a tweet from a player who did 90 lv 4 raids in 1-2 days. He had 2-3 tm per raid. Yesterday i did 7 lv 4 raids. 0 TMs. Wtf niantic

...and what was rewarded in the old system is now penalised in this new system.
High CP mons, which were essential previously are now penalised with in the new gym system, based on an abitrary number of 3k

Look, when we think of a solution to the problems of the games, people just say spoofers will be benifited, shavers will be benifited and so on. Listen to me, when you want to improve the game, you should think about the legal players, not the spoofers. Let spoofers, shavers and all cheaters have the advantage. They are cheaters! Try to punish them if you can, but don't ruin the game for the real players just to decrease their advantage. The real players want an exciting game to play. We don't want to compare ourselves with the cheaters. So my request to Niantic would be that they should try to improve the game for legal players and punish the illegal players if possible. If you can't stop them let the real players play how they want and don't think about the cheaters. Am I right?

But the problem is, cheaters are cowards and weaklings, they don't want to test their perfect mon against other cheaters' perfect mon - no, they want to mess with the rest of us!

Spoofers (surely catching a mon 100 km away which your last GPS reading would be enough proof) should be transported into an alt PoGo universe populated only by cheaters and rattata type mon.

Send them to game hell and leave us alone! But have they done it? No, they punish the legit players instead.

New system will be more easy for spoofer, they can place 19 Pidgeys at any Gyms they want, other Rattata just take down & replace to collect 50 coin daily. And new system can't stop shavers.

I agree with everything you said. The game is completely ruined and the 6 steps you said can fix the game very well. One thing though, the way you want to fix the Slaking problem, it will make Slaking vs Slaking battles as boring as a Ditto vs Ditto battle. But I don't see any better solutions so that is good as well. Great thought, man. I wish Niantic could see this.

1) Agreed. I made a post about this problem in my "How to be a Jerk after the Update" post, where you can be a jerk by NOT attacking rival gyms. (Speaking of that, there are a LOT of Jerks in my area. I saw one this morning at work when I was washing my hands in the washroom; unkempt bastard needs to shave and brush his teeth!!)

2) I don't agree here. I would like the Defense stat to be more useful here, and HP - I'd like Skarmony, for example, to be a useful Pokemon instead of a nice distraction. CP is something I think is overused and not as necessary now as it may have been a decade ago.

3) I sort of agree here, though I have some concerns about how it would be implemented. I think most players are envisioning sitting at home with a bunch of friends having battles, not at a gym, but I'd be concerned with people being able to see who is around them playing at the time - sort of a Real-Time tracking system for players. That, to me, would be dangerous - I can totally see some Otaku-esque dude (or even dudette) trying to track down someone they have a "crush" on.

Eg: There's one Instinct player around here that I kinda love even thought I've never met "her"; every week or so she comes through and takes down all the gyms in the area solo. Since I've had the worst luck with Pokemon evolutions (like 2 IV 93+ Machamps with STONE EDGE!!! STONE!!! EDGE!!! BOTH OF THEM!) and I'm a father, I don't get a chance to go take down gyms regularly. So if I got an alert on my phone that "She" was in the area, I'd be tempted to go find "her" to meet her and thank her for how many coin's she's helped my and my family earn over the past 6 months. I think that's okay - but "she" might be creeped out. (as I've never met "her", I only know that the player uses a female avatar. Hence the quotation marks around "she" and "her".)

And I'm sure there are players out there who are actually creepy, dangerous people who need to get some serious social help; I wouldn't want any of them deciding that my daughter is someone they want to meet. Or not someone I want to know that my daughter is around because her PoGo avatar pops up on a list of potential people to battle.

4) I'd say they should institute a policy where you can get 1 coin for every pokemon you knock out of a gym, with a 50 coin limit per day. Which might be a problem if you have two people attacking at once (who gets the coin?) but that 50 coin limit makes this less of an issue.

5) Don't agree here. It's fine just how it is - I might even be more interested in getting a free Egg that contains the Raid Boss (at the egg level, so a Charmander instead of a Charizard) and a free 1-use Incubator to hatch that egg instead of trying to catch it, but I can see how that would be a problem due to the small number of Egg slots.

6) The IV's of the Raid Bosses I've gotten so far have been between 82 and 89 - exactly what I normally get from Eggs. So I completely and utterly disagree with this one.

I agree that the new gym system sucks.

Requiring the mon to be kicked out removes any incentive in defending gyms effectively. It also removes the incentive to feed them berries either. 20 stardust is not a good trade for getting coins. The only incentive to holding a gym a long time is to increase the number of Gold gym badges you have.

If you could collect your daily bonuses manually (like the old system or maybe by feeding berries), that would bring some incentive back. Then you'd be getting stardust & coins.

I like the idea of attack bonuses. That would increase the incentive to knock people out of gyms. Even if you restricted it to max/near max motivated gyms of 6 or maybe 1 coin & 20 stardust for each win.
