Does each pokemon you place in a gym get you 50 coins per day or do you just get 50 coins back when the pokemon stays in the gym for over 6 hours?

Like if I have 10 mons in a gyms but none of them come back to me today, do I get no coins for that day? Or do I get them later when they come back? Has anyone tested this?

I believe you get zero coins.

Ya, you get nothing.. what seems to me like a half way through thought by niantic.
They should pay out each day.
Or a cumulated big amount at by return.
Like 200coins for holding a gym 4 days.

But they don't.

This is true, Blissey came back to me this morning, after 2d6h, and with her a whopping 50 coins!!! Now if any other mon that has been in the gym for 2 days, 1 day 12 hrs, 1 hr, or even 10 minutes, comes back today, then i get nothing. BEST GYM UPGRADE EVER!!!

From what I've seen the first pokemon to return home in a day brings back 50 coins, then any other pokemon returning doesn't bring back anything. If you don't lose a gym on a specific day then you won't get any coins on that day.

I'm not sure if this is bugged right now, since it clearly isn't the 1 coin per hour defending formula suggested by Niantic before the release. It also seems that the coin per day limit has been reduced to 50 which is really annoying since coins are more useful than ever with raids in the game now.

I had 7 pokemon return to me this morning, and still only got 50 coins, so the system as it stands seems to undermine the value of holding a lot of gyms.

I've never done a raid and probably won't. I guess there's nothing for me in this game.

You do get a free raid pass once daily by spinning gyms, try one, they're fun (and I've got 3 Charge TMs to show for it!). Hint: don't go above level 2 raid without some other players around...

so the optimal strategy then is just hold one gym and cross your fingers that it lasts no more or less than 24 hours and whenever it comes back whether that 1 day or 1 week, then get into another gym?

Will depend on how fast the gyms turn over in your area - there's a strip mall across the street from my work with 4 gyms that previously turned over every few days or so; my strategy is to get at least a few in there, as well as sprinkle a few other defenders in other gyms. Then cross your fingers that at least some get kicked out after a minimum of 500 total minutes.... but this is a moving target and it'll take a while for all of us to figure out best way to work this.

Optimal strategy is if you were a gym shaver before you have a second account handy to flip you gym every day so you can collect.

20 seconds before my exact same comment.

So now spoofers and shavers have even more power in this game.

Spoofers just run over and give berries now, dont even have to fight to keep the prestige up so their time to keep a gym goes down DRASTICALLY.

Shavers now have the best strat available.

And the rest of us just hope for the best after putting in tons of time getting ourselves a spot.

This rework has actually completely ruined that part of the game. Going to wait a month so they can fix it I guess? Going back to just collector status, no longer worried about gyms. Sux and frustrating.

Now the shavers actually have more of a goal.

So you create 2 accounts. Each on different teams. Each day you take over that gym with the other team. THAT is the max way to get coins. Completely bugged and idiotic.

Haven't spent any time taking down gyms b/c there is no reason to do it anymore.

In dominant areas they propably start use pidgeys.
Nobody doesnt attack their gyms anyways and they dont wanna use potions for gym attacks.

What a rip off. Getting coin is harder than ever.

Actually you can't even earn coins by your self. Some enemy team players are needed to kick the Mon out in order to get coins.

Retarded!

Why would I want to help enemy teams collect?! I couldn't have come up with a dumber system had I tried.

How does Niantic stay in business?!

Getting decent coin is also easier than ever. 50 coins per day are now reached by more players than ever before. It's just that the reward threshold is low, not continual, and out of your control. It does not stimulate a strong defense presence.

Before the gym change I had to be really lucky to get more than 30 coins per day, since other gyms were filled up with 30-60 minutes worth of solo fighting. Now I can relax, but it does not feel great.
