The new gym system is much better!

I don't understand y ppl are complaining so much, the new gym system makes A LOT more sense than before. Niantic just need more time to tune the numbers right.

Players should be rewarded for defending a gym, so coins are still given but capped as a safety measure;

Stagnant gyms made the game boring, so the defending reward is only given when the defending pokemon returns;

Lack of challenges made the game boring, so if no one challenges the defender in gym, the pokemon loses motivation and gets kicked out;

Lack of Variety made the gym boring, so only one of each species can be defending the gym;

Human interaction makes the game more interesting, so players are able to support friendly defenders by feeding berries.

All of the above designs MAKE SENSE! The old system is like renting out a house and receiving payment from the person renting it, u want things be stagnant to bring urself the most benefit, which makes the game boring and u losing interest urself. (y would u wanna play a game about "keeping stable rental income"). Whereas in the new system, things are designed to be challenging and circulating. There are changes in the game that u have to respond to.

For those who thinks 50 coins per day is too little, just see it as a balance change between players like u and me. I come from Hong Kong, one of (if not the most) densely populated cities on Earth. There were 2 types of gyms, normal gyms that almost never survive over 2~3 hours, and cheaters-made stagnant blissey towers in the country side.

The way to get coins was to find gyms that are close to each other, plan ur route, make sure u walk fast (run, Barry, run), and hope no one takes the previous ones down before u finish ur whole trip.When i'm lucky, I can get 50 coins from gyms around my university, the window for claiming 50 coins is so short that I would take screen shots and show off to my fds.

Not everyone everywhere can generate so much income by doing nothing, some ppl could only work very hard to get very little. Good to have updates that can balance things up.

"coins are still given but capped as a safety measure", nope, they are capped in order to make players spend more real money, because they give less coins and no dust for gyms, so if you need dust you have to buy more incubators or play more to catch more mon, no dust for gym battling

"if no one challenges the defender in gym, the pokemon loses motivation and gets kicked out", False, the pokemon loses motivation but don't gets kicked out unless someone battles the gym and defeats it. And even with that you and other players can feed the mon making the offense effort almost useless, try to fight a 2900cp Blissey twice, drop her motivation around 800, a person passes by, feeds her 2 miserable berries, and you have to fight her 2 more times again to go back to where you were, it is ridiculous...

"Whereas in the new system, things are designed to be challenging and circulating." Yes and no, gyms should always be challanging but should be rewarded both on offense and defense to keep players battling and prevent stagnation, this system does not either of those, does not reward offense at all because you can spend 40 mins to take down a gym, put a mon, and get kicked out inmediately after (first in first out) with 1 coin, so you have spend 40 mins and a ton of potions and revives for 1 or 2 coins and no dust, I am already seeing a drop in people fighting gyms after only one day and a half...So if no one fights your gyms, your mon don't come back, you don't get the coins either. Very bad implemented system in a way that a LOT of players will not get coins, no matter if you are in a gym, in 5 or in 10 or if you don't fight at all, if no one attacks the gym you get the same coins for playing 20hours/day than someone that does not play at all, again go back to my previous point, an attempt to make players spend more money.

As you stated you are in ones of the most populated areas of the world, so for you it may work, at least for now, give it some weeks/months when people starts noticing the diminishing returns and that they have no reason to stay on a gym for 40 mins to take it down and get one or two coins, then your mon will stay for days on the same gym giving you exactly zero coins and dust everyday. This system has to be changed or it won't survive.

"Out with prestige, in with motivation
The prestiging mechanic is gone altogether - players do not have …
Once a defender’s motivation drops to 0, it is expelled from the gym."

do u even read this site? or do u mean gamepress are giving wrong info.?

also, ur whole arguement is about how much it worth and doesnt worth to spend time and fight in gyms, thats why i said they need to tune the numbers.

with the old system, the concept was so horribly wrong that it cant be tuned right, but there are so many numbers they can change to make the new system work well. berries too op? tune it down. reward too little? tune it up. motivation decays too slowly? make it fast. all are easy fixes, and they have started tuning as well. the reward just changed to 1 coin/10 mins.

in the old system, all u want is stagnation, have ur blissey live in gym 4ever, coz it gives u stuff for free, but in the new system, there are times when u "want" and "not want" ur pokemons to stay in gym, and u do get rewards for making the right decision.

my pt. is, u need to look at the bigger picture than just how much u're earning. the old gym system had such a wrong concept that they need a gym rework. in the new system, i can see that they just need to set the numbers right to make the game fun to play.

u might be right that it doesnt worth to spent time on whatsoever, but "worth" is about numbers, which could be changed easily.

it seems like u really hate spending money in this game, me too. however, we're not forced to, and we dont get bullied by ppl who spend money as well. there's nothing wrong that niantic wants to earn money lol.

consider they have been giving money (in terms of coins) to ppl who occupied stagnant gyms for free (so free that u dont even need to be actually playing the game, u're taking rent!), i see the 100 to 50 cap as a cut on their losses, instead of forcing ppl to pay.

i'm a lv34 player who have never spent a cent, it's possible, u are not "required" to spend money. u just need to be not very hard core and take it easy.

I'll say that the raids are cool, as long as they happen on a regular basis.

As far as the rest of the gym system...a total waste of my time. I guess it really was mostly about stardust. I'll stick a pokemon in an open spot or feed berries, but I really have no reason to battle them. It doesn't feel rewarding, it actually feels the opposite...they get their coins when their pokemon goes back to them...Also, I have better things to do than run through a lineup of 500 cp pokemon...

But I guess as long as they do the raids, I will be okay with that. I will only spend my resources on that...

I agree - I like the new system better.

In my area the gyms were blocked by 3000+ tyranitars and blisseys - no way to make a coin for an average player.

Now they are gone and I got 5 pokes in gyms - previously 1 was a big success.

Thank you Niantic.

An average player shouldn't be expecting anything but average compensation.
