Opinion on gym rework

My point of view is that the new system just flopped. I totally lost the motivation for this game. There is no point in getting strong pokemons. One can take down every gym with ease since there only gonna be one blissey. Defenders dont matter because the attacker will win anyway due to type advantage. The last 2 rounds in defeating a gym is just boring af, the defenders just get too weak. In addition Niantic made the battle horrible with the brand new bugs. It feels like the hp bar and charge bar just show some random values untill the battle is over.

Can you motivate me again?

Gym is no longer an exclusive privilege for elite players, but is now a gateway into high level play that is inclusive of the whole community - that's an overall good thing.

Veteran players will have to seek out the fun from raid and the eventual PvP.

I am not a elite player. I am just lv 32 with OKish pokemons. I got only one Dnite with DT /OR. The other pokemons are around 2000 cp. The new gym system is still too easy and boring. Since a a pokemon which is 10 level under the defender will still win due to type advantage. PvP is the last hope for this game. But if PvP gets just a little "bonus" and wont be a major role the raids will be pointless.

I totally get your concern, but one thing I've learned is it's all relative in Pokémon Go. As a player in the mid-20 levels, I would consider you an elite player. My best Pokemon is a 2200 cp Vaporeon and my second best is a 1800 cp Rhydon. I have no Dragonite, Blissey, or Snorlax. I would consider myself a noob.

My gf meanwhile just hit lv 20 and considers me to be an elite player because I have many Pokémon over 1000 cp and I can occasionally keep my Vaporeon in a gym for over an hour.

For players like us, the update has changed gyms from annoying/meaningless shapes that block the map to something we can actually engage with.

The old system was just as bad. Gyms weren't any harder to take down. What they need to improve is the actual battle mechanic. Swipe and tap can't be the best they can do.
