Gyms pointless for cash players?

Give us stardust! Not even a day in and I am completely bored with the new gym system. I buy coins, so the grind to get 3 or 4 coins from a pokemon is simply not worth anything to me. Gyms are so much more time consuming now to take down, feed, and replace daily. And for what? a few coins?

I can't even come up with a reason to go out and do gyms today. No need to go out and show my presence to deter people from attacking my gyms, because all the gyms wither away in a day anyways. I need some type of motivation to go out and actually do gyms.

I know a lot of you free players think "Good! Get the cash players out!" but the reality is that cash players are not cheating and we are where Niantic makes their money. If there is no incentive for me to do gyms, there is no reason for me to keep playing the game, let alone spend money. I think it is a very bad decision on their part, because this game isn't being supported by the free players and they aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, they need to make a profit. It's a very bad sign that I am completely bored, not even a day in...

Edit: And someone made me think of this point...I feel like taking down a gym REWARDS THEM. The only way you get to collect is if you get your pokemon back, so every time a pokemon is sent back to them, they are rewarded. The worst thing that could happen to them is that their pokemon sits in a gym for weeks...

The gym rework has been a disaster! I'll give it a week more but it boils down to too much effort for very little, and uncertain, reward.

I agree with you.
For the first time in months, I've thought I could stop playing PoGo this morning.
Great job, Niantic !

If you don't mind me asking why do you think gyms take more time to take down now? I've been wondering if it takes more or less time than a former level 10 gym. Also I agree with you on those willing to buy coins. I've always thought that when comparing using the money you make working an extra hour at a job to buy coins vs playing an extra hour of pokemon go the results are horribly clear. That's why I've always thought keeping gyms was more just for reasons of pride than actual pokemon go income.

I guess it is quicker to take them down now, but the last couple rounds of running through 400 cp pokemon is just dumb. You do have to defeat everyone pokemon the same number of times, where as before you may only have to face it a couple. I guess I am taking time as a whole. I simply cannot just take a gym down and stick my pokemon in, it requires constant care. I guess the biggest difference is it rewards the player of the gym you took down, because now they can collect...

The way I look at spending money...I have some friends that can drop $100 at a bar in a night, or a nice dinner can cost $100 dollars. $100 dollars on Go gives me 2-3 months of entertainment...

I never have done gyms hardcore. I typically will take down gyms 2-3 times a week for maybe 30mins to an hour.If anything this system actually gives more stardust to the average player.... As for Niantic making their money, They made enough in the first month to keep them going for years, the cash players are basically just making the rich richer. Niantic at this point probably makes as much from players as they do from sprint/starbucks. Probably more sponsors will come. But i doubt anyone is actually saying "Good! Get the cash players out!" I actually don't really see spending money as an advantage except for egg hatching. All i see right now is people that told the stranded players "go to the nearest city" now saying that the gym rework isn't fair.

Alright so you get 20 Stardust every time you feed a mon. and can feed mons 20 times i believe in 20-30min period. we will say that is every 30mins for the sake of easy math. lets say you only do this once an hour. 20x20=400 Stardust every hour. lets say you do this 8 times during the day. 400x8=3200 stardust. old system, i would typically have 3-4 RARELY 4 but ill use 4 pokemon in a gym. 4x500 per pokemon stardust you got per being in gym, 2000 every 21 hours. So yes for the AVERAGE player, this is a better stardust system. Also because you feeding does not depend on you having a pokemon there. PLUS Chance of Candy speculated is an added advantage.

Nice math, though, with the old system, you would get 2000 every 21 hours hopefully not doing much if you're lucky. But by feeding 160 berries every day, you likely also have to hit over 100 pokestops every day. If you have a pokestop at work or in your bedroom, that may be easy to do, but for typical players, that's a lot of work. For rural players, now it's almost impossible. On the other side, they made stardust almost useless so maybe it's not so bad.

I believe they increased the number of berries you get, or i might just be lucky. But i get at least 1 or 2 berries a stop. i probably visit like 20-25 stops a day. on average. so anywhere from 20-50 berries a day. plus the amount accumulated since it was announced berries would be fed. I am good for doing this for probably a week but less effort than taking down a level 10 gym 5 times and prestiging every single one up.

Lol, you're going to feed 20 pokemon each hour, for --8 HOURS-- just to get 3200 stardust? Catching pokemon gets much more stardust for your time, so time spent feeding pokemon is (from a stardust point of view) better spent just walking around. Is the chance of candy worth the loss in stardust/minute? Depends on the pokemon you're feeding. But please don't use the new system for stardust, it's a waste of your time.

My main complaint is how much Niantic devalued high-level, high-IV defenders.

I spent so much time grinding for these top-tier defenders with good moves and now they pretty much feel no different than any regular old Pokemon someone throws in a gym.

I think that the CP deterioration should be the same rate for every Pokemon, no matter the level and it should decay twice as slowly.

Yeah. Want a defender now, all you need to do is catch a level 30 pokemon, evolve, place in gym...

I agree 100%, for me gyms was about stardust. It takes much longer now to take out a level 6 gym with crap defenders than before a level 10 even with a few blissey. And the fact that my high iv/cp mons in reality are worse as low iv/cp is so stupid. To drive around town where gyms are spread out to "feed" berries and have to do it multiple times I think is so dumb. Literally have killed gyms for me, I'm level 36 and have paid for coins. I know people will say leave, who cares etc but I honestly think I am done with the game I will give it more time to see if they hear feedback and make changes but if this is the new normal I won't enjoy constantly catching pidgeys and no gym battles

Yeah, I have pokemon Alpha Sapphire ready...

I will keep paying attention because when I quit the first time (when they made prestiging twice as hard and gyms twice as easy to take down) they did end up back-tracking. Niantic seems to be an all or nothing. They make huge changes and then scale them back based on reaction. Oh, I also recall them changing attack speeds when Gen 2 first dropped, which was a disaster too...

At the end of the day tho, if gyms don't feel rewarding, I have no reason to play.

I am not from the ones that pay regularly but have spent around 100€ on the game and I have to say that this system completely sucks. Taking away dust is a HUGE mistake, and more even when you drop a rework, what are you thinking about Niantic? You make my 3k+ top tier defenders useless and remove the biggest dust resource in a single moment? How will I power up new defenders that reach less than 3k cp if I have spent all my dust on the previous better defenders? No 2x dust event since ages ago, remove all dust from gym claiming and giving 20 dust per berry used? Who in the world would use 250 berries/day to get 5k dust per day? It is IMPOSSIBLE.

Won't even talk about coin rewards, but if you want to keep this system you should give dust and coins for attacking then EVERYONE would be happier, make a limit of 100 coins/5k dust per day, but reward people for taking down gyms, not just placing a mon.

I kind of miss prestiging too...nothing to spend my hordes of potions on...

The gyms have always been a waste of time in terms of rewards for anyone with any money. Unless you make $1/hr somewhere. Even then it's not quite worth it.

Cash players still need dust and gyms were the best way to get dust on a daily basis. Now I can get 20 stardust for feeding a berry? Nah, it's cool, I'll just catch a couple pokemon sitting in my house to make up that dust...

Not just for cash players. I'm a free to play player and have no motivation to go to gyms. In my area, my team (Mystic) made so much efforts to demotivate other team players with our strength that they stopped hitting gyms. Now, mystic pokemon are in gyms but we are getting no rewards. Everything feels so pointless.
