How do you know if a gym is under attack?

There used to be lightning and mud slinging, now it just won't let you place a Mon; but no motivation drop. Am I missing something?

They mean how can you tell that someone is battling a gym. Like they said, you used to be able to tell a gym was being battles by the lightning and stone edges.

They ARE NOT. Asking how to tell if your pokemon is being battled or if it has been knocked out of a gym.

To the OP, I haven't noticed any animation that shows a gym is being battled.

There's a 'Push Notifications' in 'Settings' to inform you of 'Pokemon's Return'. On your 'Journal', you will see 'ABC needs a treat' -- that is after your Pokemon is attacked by rival teams. You will also see 'ABC has fought hard and returned' -- that is when your Pokemon is sent home with coin(s).

Who the h*ll keeps downvoting people? Instead of downvoting, why don't you share your knowledge? ><

I don't think there is visual indication when your gym is under attack, unlike before. Could be a memory management issue, to reduce screen sprites.

I think you actually can see the lighting and mud, but it's hard to spot because it's now encased in the roof or whatever of the gym.

I never liked how you couldn't tell right away if it were friendly teams boosting a gym or rival teams tearing it down. If the animation is gone good riddance. You can see a heart meter on friendly gyms. That's good enough to know if you should go fortify your team.
