Blastoise power up?

So I have a 100% IV Blastoise with Water Gun/Hydro Pump. I was excited to power him up, but now with the CP changes I don't know if it is worth it anymore. I already have multiple Vaperoens that will do the job much better.

The Blastoise is currently lvl 20. Thoughts?

Nope. Power up a Vaporeon Water Gun/Hydro Pump.

If you can get even a 50% IV Vaporeon with the same moveset, it would be better. Not worth the star dust right now. Keep him in case they update CP again.

A 0% IV Vaporeon would be better than a Blastoise. Vaporeon has 34 more attack and 102 more stamina, while Blastoise only has 33 more defence, which is more than offset by the extra stamina that Vaporeon has.

It is not worth powering up right now because of the Vaporeon meta. Even Omastar is better than Blastoise right now. Having said that, it is a perfect Blastoise and it is YOUR pokemon, so if you have fun playing with him and feel proud (like im sure you are), power him up to whatever CP you want.

Also, remember that Mega Evolutions will problably come sometime in the future and Mega Blastoise is going to be a beast.
According to the calculations I made using the new Stat and CP formula:

Mega Blastoise
Base Attack: 264
Base Defense: 240
Base Stamina: 158

Min. CP (Lvl 40) : 3210,87
Max. CP (Lvl 40): 3660,00

How do mega evolutions work? This is the first Pokémon games I've played since the card game 20 years ago. Are the mega evolutions permanent?

In the original games, no, they are not permantent, you can only Mega Evolve during battle. Of course we have no idea how Niantic will implement it or if they are going to implement it at all, it is just speculation.

Here is a link to everything there is about Mega Evolutions.

If they follow the original timeline (gen 1, gen 2, gen 3 etc.) they won't release mega evolutions in a few years though.

I agree you shouldn't power it up now. But who knows, maybe Blastoise gets buffed in the future and you can power it up then.

Do you want your lineup to look like everyone else's or the ones you like? I like a little of both. You said you were excited to power him up. Don't let a little cp change dampen your excitement.

I wouldn't think twice about it just for the fact it's 100iv, that's pretty cool knowing you'll have the best blastoise around.

Power it up if you want but I'd wait until Blastoise gets buffed.

Save your dust for now. Vaporeons are straight up better right now.

In generation 3 and onwards, fully evolved starter pokemon have the ability to learn a unique move for their type. Grass types have Frenzy Plant, waters have Hydro Cannon and fires have Blast Burn, which we might see get added into the game.

In the main series, they're basically the same as Hyper Beam with different move typing, although if implemented in Go simply as Hyper Beam with different typing, Frenzy Plant would actually end up being a worse version than Solar Beam.

And it does seem like something that'll realistically happen. Every new generation should have new moves anyways, that they need to make animations for, so just add 3 more. Give people a reason to use the starters just like in the main series.

I have a 100% Victreebel with Razor Leaf and Solar Beam. I was exited to power her up but I won't, she is just a regular 2200 max pokemon. She could be useful against Vaporeon, Golem and Rhydon, almost like your Blastoise. I think it is almost the same case, except that Blastoise is better and rarer than Vic. In my case there is Jolteon and Venussaur to deal with Vaporeon, so i won't spend MY dust on she. But you can go with your heart and power up he until 2200, it is your choice.

I used my nerfed 1292 cp 93% WGHP Blastoise to train the other day and it works amazing.
Save your stardust and build a Chairzard or Venusaur instead theyr both still very good. When Gen 2 comes out next month and most likely legendary birds for Christmas you will have at least 2-3 if not 10 pokemon to power up. That stardust is gonna be in high demand. I plan to hold off on all powerups till a week or two after birds and gen 2 get released. Granted Im level 33.8 and have everything I need already.
