New DMG Calculation = double weakness obliteration? My new Def. rank

Reading the recent Q&A many people recently named potential Pokemon that might become viable as defenders. With the focus on super effective damage double weaknesses can be easily exploited and these part. mons will take a ton of damage, so I do disagree with quite a few names on the list. Also non stab attack mons are more viable now. What are your thoughts?

Bad pot. Defenders:

Exeggutor: DW to bug, Scizor resists psychic and double resists grass -> fc/xs moveset will obliterate the palm tree

Omastar: good df, but plants can be cruel

Gyara, DNite, T-tar, Golem and Rhydon - no expl. needed

Forretress: The Bug-Fortress is on fire...

Mantine: same as gyara

Good Defenders:
Blissey, Vape and Snorlax - Single Type def. comes in clutch!
Lapras! Only fighting and Elec can handle this beauty!
Cloyster, also good def. same good type comb. as Lapras
Donphan, can dish out - will be also more useful as attacker into Blissey and T-Rex now with counter.
The Slowbrothers
Steelix: I made a mistake before - with its defences it looks like a promising defender!
Muk - (but beware legendaries esp. M2, palm, Espeon and Alakazam - very potent psy-dmg-meta incoming)
Ampharos - decent bulk for an elec and a cutsie - but a lot of Rhydon/Golem out there!
Espeon - Good sum of stats, not hard to beat, but with c/pb it will leave its mark
Lanturn - wont be incredibly hard to beat - but much better as def. than before - Mix Moveset (cb/hydro) pot. viable now

Skarmory: made a mistake before - pot. a good defender with the steel resistances

Ok, thats my 2 cents :)

Interesting read, thank you. I simply don't know enough about this yet to comment, but would love to read what other people think.

Ugh, still hoping for a bit of a pokemon rework to see Steelix become alittle more powerful. I figured he would've been a top 5 defender at some point. But good Read, Hopefully Alakazam becomes a good defender because i've been stocking up on 90%+ ones. Decent level already too.

My 100 IV IT/EQ Steelix hopes for the same. Even so, this moveset looks like it could be the one you want as a defender.

I wonder what the most painful gym to face would look like?

Something like Blissey, Snorlax, Lapras, Vaporeon, Espeon, Donphan will probably become a fairly typical gym going forward.

But knowing my meta, I'm sure people will continue to stuff gyms with Gary, Rhydon and Dragonite like nothing ever changed.

If motivation is anything like prestiging, vaps will be very easy since we have practiced against them for so long.

I agree that we will probably see the typical mons for first 3-4 months along with everyone's fav.

I am going with type advantage. If i see Lapras, Vaporeon, Snorlax, Blissey, Espeon, I will probably go Arcanine or Jolteon just to change it that much.

There are a lot of MISTSTAKES on the Tread.
Steelix is Steel/Ground type
and its weakness are in attach
(NO DOUBLE WEAKNESSES)

Skarmory has Only two 1x Weaknesses to Fire and Electric
(NO DOUBLE WEAKNESS, exactly Steel is NOT weak to electric)

That said double weaknesses were ALREADY A PAIN since day one.

oh - u are absolutly right with steelix and skarmory - my bad! So Steelix will be quite decent! I really thought steel would be weak to electric! :) Now I learned smthg.

Now Double Weakness will just be punished even worse with the new dmg calculation, so it will be an even bigger pain.

What is a good defender will depend on what is already in the gym. It is not good if the attacker can just walk through with one pokemon being good against multiple defenders in a row. A Gyarados between two Ground types restricts Jolteon to a single fight. This was always true, of course, but was completely superseded by the need to have high CPs.

Interesting point, I hope people will pay more attention to the order. I think with switching this problem can still be overcome quite easily tough.

Honestly, I think most people will just quickly put in a mon when given the opportunity!

Steelix does not have any double weaknesses. Its type is steel ground and not steel rock. Steelix will be a quite good defender.

U are absolutly right, my bad! Aggron was the steel/rock dude.

Weakness > Stab

When attacking, using moves based on weakness is more important than STAB.

A perfect example - Alakazam with Focus Blast is now much better than Future Sight in the right circumstances. He will now be preferable over Machamp when facing a P/P Blissey.

The Nidos should become relevant again. Tentacruel is also pretty bulky, along with Poliwrath.

Also, watch out for things like Noctowl, and Crobat.
